Berzerk (1983) by MB Games - Arcade Vintage Board Game Review

I've never player the video game nor the board game of Berzerk.

I finally got this and some other 2‑player games to the table today! Youʼre right about the rulesʼ being difficult to absorb at first…Iʼm afraid we didnʼt play quite right, but we had fun anyway. Iʼm thinking of making a compact cheat sheet. In addition to having the better cutout, the UK humanoid has superior arm action: My US humanoid may have two swinging arms, but both of them tend to sail past an adjacent robot instead of striking it down. Also, I like the UK board a tad more: In the US version the humanoid and Evil Otto starting spaces, rather than depicting those characters, simply have their names - ho‐hum… My opponent, younger than I by a fair amount, knew nothing of the Berzerk video game(s) [we didnʼt even get into Frenzy…] - he chose the game strictly on the basis of the box. When I told him about the voice synthesis, he searched online for some example audio, and then he was surprised and amazed that the video game, like most video games of its era, lacked music. (I pointed out that board games usually donʼt feature music either.) Overall he was tickled by the board game - as was I - and he got some education too. 🙂 I hope itʼs not long before my next play.
