When it comes to content on "how a suit should fit" you will see a lot of information on sleeve length, jacket length or waist suppression but one thing I don't see enough of is how to achieve a comfortable fit.
I hear people saying they don't wear suits because they aren't comfortable, but if it fits right, you should be able to wear it all day without feeling any discomfort.
I believe a suit should, first and foremost, be comfortable. Otherwise, you simply wont want to wear it.
Jamen, my business partner at Principle M, joined us for the first in a series of everything to do with bespoke -- from fitting to cutting to tailoring.
Jamen spent some time at London College of Fashion, with a focus on arts and fashion design, before heading to Florence, Italy, where he worked at a Sartoria and learned the bespoke trade before making his way to Beijing.
In this first video, we talk a little bit about why comfort is important and then we talked about a common posture we see nowadays; rolling forward shoulders. This posture will cause pressure on the front of your shoulders as well as the back of your neck because your shoulders are pulling the back collar forward across your neck, causing tension that is just...a pain in the neck!
Jamen walks us through how he conducts a bespoke fitting and how he fixes this in order to achieve a more comfortable fitting suit.
