Just how far can you get Heavy Airsoft BBs to fly out of a Flat Hop AEG? What's the maximum range from a UK Spec Stock AEG? We spent the day at Skirmish Airsoft finding out. We tested 0.28g, 0.30, 0.32 and 0.36g BBs out of 3 AEGs.
When doing any testing you should be cautious as BBs can damage your Airsoft Gun if they aren't compatible with your gearbox and hop unit. AATV accepts no responsibility for any damage that may occur as a result of following the advise in this video.

Love it Tom. Fairly Scientific. Thanks for this one. Great to see the presenter's looks have improved dramatically... lol thanks for this Jody. The look of disbelief on your face when you couldn't figure out why the crono was not recording the FPS. Thanks for leaving that in. The human side of presenting. Expected the results to show .25 and .28 were better. Pleasantly shocked. But I have had feeding issues on the Ares Honey Badger on .32s. Could have been dodgy BBS so will try some Open Blasters. Thanks

Thanks. It’s totally pusedo science but the results are clear enough. It’s going to be hop/gun/mag dependant re what BBs work for you but we’ve been pleasantly surprised at our results over the last year or so. I started off being a user of .25 Blasters. Switched to .28g Devils and am now ordering some .32 Opens. Most of my AEGs have flat hopped Prometheus Purples with Firefly flat nubs though.

With my Bren - stock gearbox , change barel to Promy 6.03 with R hop and 0.40g BB's 60 meters I was hitting with high % and to 75 with good rate of success, but in my country the limits are higher than UK's, and the R hop is game changer.

I use Lancer Tactical .30s and they are doing well in just about anything I have. I used to run the ASG .28s, but getting a good price on the lancer one so....oh well. "To the Pub!"

I'm curious to why you are going full auto. You lose FPS per shot when doing that.

We shoot single shot in our later video when we change targets. Not really heard or seen that one before. I’d do a test but we’ve stopped making airsoft content.

They are very overlooked. Extremely well made, great to use. The milspec version with the Mosfet and stanag mag adaptor is the one to go for.

Great video! Where you allways aiming in a flat trajectory ? Or did you have to aim above to lob shots on to target?

We always shoot flat for these tests. Aiming about head height above the ground.

Interesting to see that result with the 0.30g BBs. It's a weight where I have encountered problems with jamming before. Out of curiosity, any experience with Longbow BBs?

I’ve not used them. I’ve since used all sorts of weights up to .36 out of AEGs and Marui recoils with no trouble. I think that particular type or batch was too rough for reliable feeding

I have an rhop-ed M4 with 260mm barrel. I have to use .32g in it. Any less my BB curve upwards too much even with fully spun back hop up dial.

I was similar with my RHop before it tore the patch out with a jam. Had to use 0.28g at a minimum and even that was a tad over hopped. I can’t be bothered with it now. Too much hassle.

Is it flat hopped as well? When you R hop, the reason you’re able to use much heavier BBs is the fact that the extra rubber over the incision made in the barrel increases the contact- essentially meaning you’re hopping quite a bit. I flat hop all of my R hop builds, which is modifying the nub, and that way you can customize what exact size you’d like your nub to be and how much spin you want on it. Takes a bit of trial and error, but yeah I found if I used a stock nub with Rhop I couldn’t get the nice flat, rise, flat bell curve you want from your bb trajectory with .32s unless you shaved the nub off a bit. Hope that makes sense :)

Sorry, am a bit late to the party. I saw that you use a prommy purple in your LCT guns. I use a maple leaf rubber with omega nub in my LCT AK-12 and RPK, and have had consistently good range with them. I’ve heard that the maple leaf is comparable to a flat hop mod. Could you please explain the difference??

Interesting stuff. I've pretty much settled on .25's for my LCT's. The reasons are, accuracy while maintaining the ability to punch through foliage by keeping the FPS up (I play exclusively woodland and I need to be able to get through all that nature) what it will hop and feed comfortably and cost (I airsoft on a budget). I found the .25's to be the best compromise and give me the most consistent and reliable performance overall. I will happily go toe to toe with any AEG I've encountered with that and hold my own. Atm I'm using Nuprol RZR's, a BB that in the past has had a terrible rep but they seem to have sorted out whatever the problems were and over the last 6 months or so I've had no issues, I am however never tied to any particular brand, I shop around for the best deal and will happily use Geoffs, G&G and ASG.

andrew blackmore have you changed the hop bucking in your LCTs? The stock one isn’t very good at our power levels. I use Prometheus purples in all of mine.

@@AnvilAirsoftTV No all my LCT's are stock, eventually I'll get round to changing them as they wear out but tbh I've never felt the need to up till now, I find once they're bedded in and well adjusted I get good range and accuracy, the most extreme example being the LCT AK baby which is tiny and seems to shoot like a laser out to 50m plus. Having said that a friend fielded a brand new LCT AKMS last week and and the hop on that was shockingly bad, guess I've just been lucky maybe.

Glad to see the flat hop prevail lol, as this is a mod I do to all my aegs, which do you think gives you the best bang for the bucks, with price, FPS, range, accuracy and feeding, I'm thinking .28's

I've got loads of .28g Devil Blasters in the store but I am supported by ASG. I'll be getting hold of some .32g if I'm honest. They really are so good. But it's so hop dependent!

@@AnvilAirsoftTV I do find these tests very interesting both my current aegs are lct ak105 and pp19 I've got open blaster .25, .28, kinda interested to try .32's now and try my own tests on what works best.

our milsim events allow as far as 370fps with a .30g bb. and 385fps with a .28 in outdoor games, apply the 1.9J limit. your 1.2J regulation is just... sad

Are the open blaster the bio ones guys il be trying geoffs .3 in my bren tomorrow. And where the .3 blaster as ive got a bottle and both my G&G dont like them

Yeah they were .3 blasters, no problems with .28g Devil Blasters and .32g Devil Blasters. It was mainly a magazine issue tbh but still stopped shooting

They go through the same QC as the Devils apparently so are a very high quality BB.

jacob damien - brad it’s a combo of a loose forward assist spring and the pre-cock on the Mosfet. Turned out the motor was knackered on the KWA.

Cool. We are legally limited to around 1.3J for AEG in Uk. Though most sites want under 1.15J

That one has the stock UK spring. It has done 1.1J but is slowly dropping down to around 1J now. So it probably started life as an M100

rhop it and it'll get even better with .32s .. my rhoped cyma ak is 328 to 331 fps with .32s and it shoots amazingly far.

@@AnvilAirsoftTV yeah and honestly as long as you get a pre made rhop patch it's ridiculously easy to install... rhop doesn't have to be hard to install... I suck horribly at teching and my drop in patch that I got works fantastically
