This looks so nice and delicious. My daughter and I can't have starches though. We are pretty much on the London no starch diet aka A.S. diet. Any suggestions for eliminating the arrow root and tapioca starches? Can they both just be omitted?

A slight variation on this which is a bit less rich for anyone interested in gluten free recipes is an Italian polenta (rough maize flour) cake which also has a lot of ground almonds in and butter. Usually flavoured with lemon or orange syrup drizzled over.

For those viewers ... let me tell you a quick story. We brought one of Tara's cakes with us to Mastro's in Malibu for a friend's birthday. The manager of the restaurant came over to our table to compliment Tara for how gorgeous the cake looked and asked us if she can try a piece. Long story, she came back out and said the chef and all the staff tried the cake and are drooling because it is soooooo good. The manager then asked if Tara would like the restaurant to refer her to their clients that request custom cakes . Do yourself (and friends) a favor and make one of these cakes. You will be blown away with how good it is : )
