My husband had rectal cancer and ended up with a colostomy in 2005. It was a very big problem for him if he was constipated and his doctor recommended the Amazon knock off! His doctor was the head of the Colorectal surgery department at Cleveland clinic and he was angry at the cost of the name brand and the lengths the company had gone to to get doctors to recommend it to their patients. As he said, he could have taken his entire family to Bora Bora for 3 weeks if he had agreed to take the trip and recommend the name brand which was bad enough but not at all unusual. What angered him was that they were not even giving him free samples to give his patients and they wanted him to tell his patients that the knock off was dangerous and could cause their cancer to return! He said that he would not lie to his patients especially if they were able to read the labels and they would see the ingredients were 100% the same! What would his patients think of anything he told them!? I respected him so much for that and for telling us the truth about why he was so adamant that we get any generic that had the same ingredients but the Amazon was the best deal he'd found thus far.
Palm oil is high in saturated fat. But worse, it's being blamed for destroying natural habitats of already endangered species like the Orangutan, pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhino. Plus, it's probably cheaper per ounce than roasted almonds, so you get an actually better ingredient for less money per ounce with the amazon one. They probably make the other for people that want a peanut butter-like product. Keep them on their toes and keep them honest, Vivian!
If I'm buying almond butter or peanut butter, if I see palm oil on the label I put it back on the shelf. Apart from the habitats of the animals you mention being destroyed, palm oil is actually very bad for you and has been associated with certain types of cancers.
Thank you for posting this with detailed information. I was going to say it but you said it all and there is no doubt, knock off is cheaper, tastes better and stronger almond flavor because it's not thinned with palm oil. It's better for your health and most importantly, it's better for the planet! Almond harvesting has its own issues due to the amount of water it requires and MOST almonds are grown in California where water is in short supply as it is.
@@hiknfo Just looking at the price history over the last 4 months, this almond butter is all over the place, between $8.18 and $11.20. Also unavailable with prime shipping. I imagine it'll drop back down soon once that vendor gets a restock. Even still, at $11.19 it's a cheaper (and higher quality!) option than the "natural" one Vivian showed. Never blindly trust anything that touts "all natural" as their selling point!
If I was Vivian’s neighbor she’d never get rid of me. That’s saying a lot because I’m kind of an antisocial homebody, but I like laughing more than being antisocial and getting a killer deals to boot. Why doesn’t this channel have millions of subs?
I just found her by accident, when I was down a YT rabbit hole. I was SO impressed with her delivery, her speaking ability and her charm! She's VERY good at this and absolutely no boring intro, outro or any commercial content. Man, how did I not know about this gem of a creator? I'm so glad that I found her! It's very rare that I'm captivated so much, that I watch an entire video, without skipping through..... however she is so talented at what she does, I watched from beginning to end! Great editing too! Subbed!
Hi Vivian! Just for your safety, when smelling chemicals please wave your hand over it and waft the scent to you rather than putting your nose up to it. Some chemicals can cause damage to the mucous membrane and throat. Thank you for your videos!
Any “nighttime” med just has Benadryl (diphenhydramine) added. Sometimes it’s cheaper to take the benedryl and cold med instead of purchasing specific nighttime versions.
I buy ALL off-brand or store brand medications. There is literally no difference. Same with generic prescription drugs. I'm not paying for a name, I'm paying for an active ingredient.
@@TracyKMainwaring some people don't have a choice. Insurance only pays for generic drugs in many cases. And for the non insured, brand name meds can be WAY too expensive to buy.
Great reviews. Appreciate the comparisons. It would be great to have a follow up video segment in about 3 months after you have used these products for a while to get your impressions from really living with them. Thanks again. Another hit outta the park!
@@bronzebeautybrown3949 if you had a million comments and you’re one person video I’m sure you couldn’t do it either . Palm oil is just so non ethical and is the cause of deforestation. For that reason I don’t like products that contain it. The pods for coffee I just can’t do either. I still use either a percolator or my French press or my old school espresso pot. Only waste is a single bag from beans and the wonderful compost.
I’m Curious how palm oil is the cause of deforestation? It’s made from the fruit of palm trees - much like orange juice is made from the fruit of orange trees and avocado oil is made from the fruit of avocado trees and coconut oil is made from the fruit of a coconut tree. If you cut down the trees you can only harvest them once - and that only if they are baring fruit at the time you cut them down. Makes more sense - from a business perspective- to keep the trees and harvest them year after year. 🤷♀️
@@dawnlittle946 the trees are the home of many animals. When the trees are cut its not just one or two its thousands. Millions of animals have been left homeless. Look into it.
@@nettyspeaks they aren’t cut down to make palm oil - that’s my point. Hearts of Palm (which I love and haven’t eaten since I learned they have to kill the tree to harvest) they do cut down the trees. Palm oil is made from the fruit of the trees. The home you live in contributed more to deforestation then palm oil does
@@dawnlittle946 how you arguing how the orangutans are being affected. Like you're minimizing that their homes are being cut down. Just stop using or eating palm oil. Its not a NEED.
According to the FDA, all medication must have the same active ingredient. The INACTIVE ingredients may be vastly different, but unless you are allergic to something specific in that knock off medicine (always read the labels), then it should be okay to take. Any store brand (Walmart, CVS, etc) will be MUCH cheaper than the name brand, and be just as effective, and you don’t have to wait for them to arrive from Amazon.
I always buy the generic for medication, why do people spend the money on the name brands? I know a lot of people do and a lot of people think there’s a difference also. Now when it comes to the detergent I feel like that’s something that needs to be used overtime to see if it’s working as well, I have noticed a difference between brands, your clothes will start looking dingy with some brands because it’s not washing out all of the dirt and oils in your clothes and that takes time to start to show.
Oooo! I’m so excited about the generic Thera-flu!! I can’t take the brand name as I’m highly allergic to chamomile. It’s is a close relative of ragweed.
When you finish your video… “and I see you in the next one.. byyye” plays in my head LOL. But you forgot to say it 🤣 i don’t think I have tried almond butter…but for that review and price I think I will try it
Good catch on the palm oil. It's actually very bad for you being high in cholesterol and it's not environmentally friendly. It should be a banned ingredient.
High cholesterol foods are not bad for you on their own. Neither is saturated fat. It’s about what the other ingredients are, and if the fat is trans fats or hydrogenated (those are horrible). There are huge environmental and social issues with palm oil.
Sometimes price shouldn't be the concern. The Amazon coffee pods seem plastic, therefore a problem for the environment. Since, the Nespresso are aluminum, they are easier to be recycled. I have a different pod for Nespresso, but they gave me a bag so that I can send the used pods back to them to recycle with pre paid postage. Something to consider IMHO.
My wife and I tried the Amazon brand hot chocolate K-Cups last year. Those things were NASTY! Nothing more than brown water with a pinch of artificial sugar. Everything else Amazon brand has been great.
I wasn't impressed with the k cup hot chocolate. I found it weak and watery. I use our k cup machine at work without a pod to make the perfect temperature cup of tea.
I just can’t get behind the pod coffee thing. I know nesspresso and Kuerig are the trend but I still just make a nice drip coffee without the single pod packaging, and the outrageous pricing. Sorry, not sorry bout it.
We have a Keurig coffee machine and my husband buys the “NO NAME Medium Roast Coffee Pods (Case) 100 ea for $30. The pods are compostable so they get disposed of in our green food scraps bin.
I watched the liquid coming out and it’s clear (or close to it). We now use the Kuerig to make tea and instant coffee. I forgot what a strong cup of coffee tastes like. One cup and done. Brew a pot of Jamaican me Crazy on the weekends.
Hey Vivian! The palm oil is probably to help emulsify the dried almonds. Ever notice all natural peanut butter separate? It’s because it does not have something to emulsify it.
Maybe I’m just old, but I got tired of lugging those detergent bottles around. Switched to TruEarth. A whole year’s worth of laundry detergent in a few envelopes space. Just order it like you order Amazon. Easy to carry if you have to put in a downstairs laundry room. Great for young people going to a laundromat or apartment folks. Same cleaning power. If there is a stain, I pretreat with my sunlight laundry bar, same as I’ve always done. I don’t use softener, since vinegar does the same but doesn’t leave a residue on your clothes like the softener. You just tear of a strip of the detergent (it’s a dry soap so you are not buying water with your soap like Tide), pop it in the washer and away you go. You actually get the loads you pay for, instead of over filling. It’s worth looking into.
Like you, I always add a few tablespoons of vinegar to the rinse. I dislike fabric softeners because they leave a waxy residue that never washes out. Also, I add a few tablespoons of ammonia to the wash load, which softens the water so I can use WAY less of whatever detergent and get the same results. Used to use borax for the same purpose but discovered that borax is not water soluble except (temporarily) in very hot water, which I never use, so that was a BIG waste of money!
Big spoon roasters has an article on palm oil. Apparently there's no flavor to it, but there's no nutrition to it either. Add the issues making it and it's clear it's not such a hot idea. Good call Vivian!!!
OK, Viv, you have me hooked. I've been binge-watching your videos for two full days! How about testing spices from Aldi and brand names (like oregano, parsley, etc.)
Do you remember that pink medicine - a sorta thick, but delicious medicine-y, kinda bubble gum flavor? Or, how bout the grape that tasted like grapes! Hmmm they made taking medicine easier:)
The pink bubble gum flavored amoxicillin for infants. Even Tide wouldn’t take that pink stain out of onesies. My son’s ear infections didn’t thoroughly go away until he was big enough to get a pill that could be crushed in yogurt or pudding. Directions always said give for seven days and it would be gone in four. I guess I remember the pink medicine from the giving end not the receiving.
Palm oil is a saturated fat that isn’t recommended for human consumption. They name it to make it seem unassuming…palm seems innocent enough, amiright.
I use Persil (free & sensitive) brand detergent. It seems to work better for my clothing than Tide. I want to find a non-water based detergent so I can stop buying plastic bottles but I'm not sure if any of those would work with the terrible hard water I have.
100% almond butter is NOT runny.I make my own- just almonds in the food processor and it is thick. Don't take my word for it, try it. Easy and delicious. I'm skeptical of Amazon 's claim that they're only using almonds and getting such a watery consistency.Maybe they're adding almond oil in which case they can claim using only almonds.Either way, cheaper and tastier making your own.
you're right, if it were only DRY almond powder, then why is it that runny, what am I missing, but yeah i'm aware of the oil naturally occurring in almonds, but that much?
I have used the Amazon brand of detergent for the last 2 years. It does come in 2 scents. I love the fabric softener as well. It sells under the brand Presto.
Love you Viv!! 💗 My weird medicine love, is alka seltzer plus cold. It's always good for what ails ya 😅 And to make it even weirder, I also add salt. Some Lucas Limon Salt makes it even better 😄🤦 xox 😘
Hi Vivian. On the Almond item use the cheap one all day… We’ve got to stop eating anything with palm oil in, they’re chopping down the rain forest to plant palm trees. It’s taking away the habitat of the animals and the forest produces most of our oxygen. Sorry for the rant.. lol still luv ur channel. Xx
I really enjoy your videos! I learn a great deal about products and Japanese Dollar Stores. Thanks for not only giving great information with a dash of humor. 5 Vivian heads.
I still watch videos on making homemade detergent, but I can't find soap nuts anywhere. I still have an old fashion coffee maker. I taught palm oil was supposed to be for soap making, and was not supposed to be in food. Just go to your farmers market when possible, they have things that are good for washing, and consuming. (like lemons)
Vivian I’m a new subscriber! I love you I love that you cuss and you’re hilarious like I’m addicted already! Congrats on 300 K I look forward to more videos I’m going to binge watch some more!!!
Girl almond butter is super easy to make at home...Buy bulk raw almonds.. heat.. your almonds on a sheet pan in a 325 degrees oven for 10 minutes throw in a food processor for 20 minutes and you get 100% all natural almond butter... Dry roasted nuts are usually soaked in salt water before roasting..
I watched a nurse on a video and she said to stay away from Wal-Mart brand vitamins..she said they were cheaper but made in China and were bad for you..the spring valley ones
Off brand stool softeners and laxatives work better. Idk why. This is something I have to take often and I spent years trying to find which thing is the best and the most gentle on your insides. We buy benedryl, lactaid, ibuprofen, sleeve, Laxatives, gas x, miralax, stool softeners, Imodium, and I'm pretty sure some others ALL off Amazon. Benadryl is expensive... The off brand capsules you get online are exactly the same but a good $20 less for almost double the amount (we go through a lot, everyone in the house takes it so we always but the 500 count) Oh! Remembering more as you go Same with DayQuil and niquill
I found this channel a couple years ago my fav channel and can't wait for new videos ❤❤❤❤🇺🇸✌I love the dollar store and Japanese dollar store finds lol
you know you used the same whisk to mix both the laundry detergents. I would think that would ruin the test since both now have some of the other detergents mixed in
I take away from the tide test,I see how cloudy it got,to me that's just showing how much it spreads so it will instantly get all over the clothes when the Amazon one sinks to the bottom
I was in a terrible accident and for quite awhile my dr recommended colace because the pain meds were messing with me. The Amazon brand is absolutely the Best Buy for the product. They worked no differently. If you need these buy the Amazon brand all day every day.
Aluminum coffee capsules are recyclable. Nespresso accepts empty capsules and reuses them for new. It is shame to recommend plastic capsules just because they are cheaper. 😐😐
Palm oil is high in saturated fat and is not good for the environment. Modern day laundry detergents are made to be agitated in a machine and do not perform well when not moving. Congratulations on 300,000. You never fail to make me laugh. Thanks 😆
