yup ... shiny ... but absolutely zero evidence to support "World's No.1 anchor" IMO any company arrogant enough to say as such is extremely suspect and untrustworthy. Rocna all the way, no boasts, just sets.

We’re all welcome to our own opinions, I used a Rocna for years until I tried this. Anyhow, you should check out our test video of it. I did find it quite amazing, but I’m not here to sell anchors, just speaking as I find to help others make their own choices.

Worlds No.1 Anchor is meaningless marketing BS. Until Steve Goodwin at SV Panope properly tests one I won't believe any hype.

@pierremitham2964
@pierremitham2964 Год назад
Lets see what Panope says. His testing is now the defacto standard! From your video I can already see one serious defect in the design. The hole for the shackle is incorrect! You cannot install an anchor shackle corectly! and it certainly would prevent you from using the best swivel on the market. THe Mantus swivel!

Hi s/v MrBlue thanks for the comment, were big fans of the spade anchor for sure, it's a real corker. We must say before we go any further that we are not endorsed by Ultra. We are independent R&D company, our testing and videos are based on our tests and beliefs alone. Regarding this anchor being a "Spade copy" we can see that all second generation anchors share similar traits in some way or other, some with extras here and some there. This anchor in particular has a lot of interesting parts to it and the price is surely one of them, that we will talk about in the final review. Thanks again for the feedback, will will certainly input it into later videos 👍
@agold1990
@agold1990 Год назад
putting a price on safety is ridiculous. Now if you are buying any other stainless anchor then that is a waste of money. Spade has no comparison to the Ultra's performance. I've been using an Ultra for years never had any issues.
@MARIOSAILOR1
@MARIOSAILOR1 Год назад
@@agold1990 no its not ridículous, not all the people can afoard that, if they whant to keep sailing, probably, you live on the other world... Sorry but on my experience talking with other sailors, the Spade its real One of the best anchors you can get for an afordable price. If the Ultra its Better? For what i read in difrent reviews, no, its worst than Spade. Any way, they are boath good anchors, but the Spade its with a prooved pedigree arround the world, One of the moast expensive galvanized anchors, but acessível for the sailors. Ultra its not. The good think on Ultra is that they copy the concept of the Spade, só they did it well.
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
@agold1990 Tricky business reviewing an anchor and there’s a lot goes into it. In our eyes safety is paramount and an anchor you trust is part of that. We have so far had extremely good success with the Ultra however the spade is also a great anchor. For us to make any further comments we need some real data to work with - stay tuned, it’s coming!
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
@s/v MrBlue, Some valid points there. The spade is a fantastic anchor, there is no surprise you are happy with it. Is the ultra better? Or a copy? Well, I believe the ultra was designed and tested around 2000 (when the company formed its marine side) which was before the spade launch - but how long before the spade launch was it designed? Who knows, what is good is that one designed probably helped evolve another which is progression, similar to the new Rocna - let’s say that has a few things in common here too. Of course price point is certainly of importance, as is safety. I hope you understand we can’t judge if an anchor is “worth the cost” without testing it against others scientifically. Which of course we are going to do. What’s important here for us to explain is that the anchor on test is not ours and we are not paid by Ultra at all. We do not have to say anything or good or bad about it and our reviews are honest. We are trying to find out how good or bad this anchor actually is to help our viewers form an opinion based our our findings. The next round of testing should be pretty fun, and we’re hoping to put some data into the mix too!

Be interesting to see what Rex at AnchorRight says? That tested against the Super Sarca Excel probably would stack up. Especially if caught under a rock ledge or reef. No simple recovery mechanism.

Ooh, may have to find Rex. I’ve not seen his work yet. The ultra can be recovered from the bar at the front, thy also have an interesting retrieval product for sale separately although we have not used one so we can’t comment.

Why no slot and just a hole for the shackle? This means a shackle pin has to go through the hole and will therefore have side loading issues and dramatically reduce the working load limit. Same with Ultra's own swivel design, the forks can split in side loading because it is not allowed to rotate in all directions. Anchor looks very promising otherwise (a bit concerned about hollow shank) but not being able to connect the anchor shackle with the pin in the chain is a dealbreaker for me I am very sad to say.
@SailHub
@SailHub 6 месяцев назад
Yeah, I think the point is you have to use the Ultra swivel. Personally I agree with you but I have spent a bit of time talking with the guys at ultra and I’m awaiting a unit for destructive testing! They assure me the swivel jaws are stronger than the duplex chain it is specced to work with! Hence why they want their customers to use their own swivel, they just don’t want to gain a bad rep from someone else’s gear. Can’t wait to get testing, if it lives up to their suggested loads it’s simply aweseome!
@SailHub
@SailHub 6 месяцев назад
P.s a hollow shank should be considerably stronger than a solid one.

Het getoonde anker is een copie van het al 50 jaar oude Bugel anker, net als de Rocna ook een copie van het Bugelanker is. Zelf heb ik ook een kopie van het Bugelanker gemaakt tot voorspelbare tevredenheid.
@SailHub
@SailHub 7 месяцев назад
Errr. No, it’s clearly not. Not even close. The video clearly explains the design characteristics of the Ultra and they are not the same as the Bugle, not even close.
@J.vanSaeftinghe
@J.vanSaeftinghe 7 месяцев назад
Sail -Hub, have a look at a 50 year old Bügel ancor. Bügel is not so shine as the Ultra is, that is sure not even close. But the construction is verry verry clear a copy of the Bügel, Just as a Rocna is a copy of the Büge, and a few more. If you are so shure, make a foto of a Bügel and Ultra and rocna together and everybody can see that the pricipe form it works is the same. the only differenc is that the real Bügel is not so shiny on the bow roller.
@SailHub
@SailHub 7 месяцев назад
@J.vanSaeftinghe I’m sure… lead, h hollow, bracing, super duplex, roll bar, attack angle, angled shank, concave fluke. The latter being the main difference between older designs and next generation anchors, this is also where they differ (a lot) in use. Where is it that you see the similarities?
@J.vanSaeftinghe
@J.vanSaeftinghe 7 месяцев назад
Most of the tested ancors are more or less lookalike the Bügel, nothing wrong with a copy of goodworking product withouth patent. I did it myself and am happy with it. My 10 kilo copy Bügel with the edge of the fluke adjusteble to find the best holding position before permanent mounting. is not dragging, but it is totaly disapering in the seabed, I made a number of totaly different model and they are disapering also underneat the seabottem. with a very big fluke surface and litle kilos. holding very good, not dragging, but having problems with weed. But no one is so nice and shiny as the Ultra on the bowroller
@SailHub
@SailHub 7 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for the input. I do think it would be worth reading into anchors a bit more. Yes, they look similar but they are not. The main things that effect holding power is the fluke shape, concave, convex or flat, this had a huge effect on holding. Second thing is attack and tip weight, this of course effects how well something will set in hard ground. There are many other factors but just because something looks similar… Anyhow, we will be putting a video together about it at some point, I’m really looking forward to it and I will probably learn a lot myself at the same time!
