Open Boat Project is exactly the sort of thing the world needs, so cool to see them representing. We've had enough of over priced, over proprietary marine products. It's 2023, none of this stuff is THAT complicated, it's just locked down and the knowledge is segmented.

The cool thing about them is that the guy who runs it feels the same! He actually still sub contracts to the worlds biggest brands to help them with their circuitry. The info they have the real deal!👍

That sea drive and anchor are top shelf. Love it. Both on list for dream boat

Yeah! All good stuff. We can vouch for the anchor, hope to test the engine at some point too!

After dragging a Delta anchor around the bays we switched to the Ultra and it's so much better. It sets in it's own length and we get a good night's sleep! 😊

Yeah! A really good anchor indeed. Next weeks episode is our long term review. Some really surprising results, even after two year use!

For sure! Check out EPTechnologies too, they have a pretty epic sail drive on the market now that’s certainly worth a look 👍

Being a year out from actually purchasing my next cruising sailboat, I appreciate the information and options here. On the Ecoboost I’ve had some personal experience with the product. The stated ability of the unit was far below actual output. This was for a home backup unit. The sea drive unit looks awesome, look forward to researching particulars. OBP? About time 👏

I’ve heard this about EcoFlow, the main issue being redundancy however for the costal cruiser it’s such a straightforward install which saves both time and money. The Sea Drive really does look good, we really want to review one! Working on it.. 😉

We changed from a Manson Supreme to an Ultra 21Kg and swivel. What we thought was good in the Manson was surpassed with the Ultra it is amazing and we did a video showing how good it is (and we are not even sponsored by them )😃 Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.

I'll be waiting until I see what results Steve at SV Panope gets when he tests one.. nothing beats actual underwater footage of how an anchor behaves in the real world. (And I want to see how they compare to a Sarca Excel.. to my mind the best anchor on the market today.. certainly better than a Manson or a Rocna.)

Of course JAFO, He’s got some awesome videos out there in the Ultra already. You should check them out! We’re excited to be testing the Ultra for a bit longer, we hope to have some cool tests lined up too.

I bet that sea drive is crazy expensive - its from Norway and Norway is a very very expensive place to do anything
@Robzilla501
@Robzilla501 Год назад
PS…. Just checked price on ultra anchor. Highest price I see on a standard 45 pound CQR is around $500. For $2000 I would expect this ultra anchor to jump off the boat, dig itself in, then come back to the boat and rack itself when I whistled.
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
They still make CQR?! No wonder they are so cheap! They should come free with Kellogg’s by now, they even stop the packet blowing away! 😆 To be fair to Ultra, in every condition Oliver the last two years of permanent live aboard sailing it has worked 1st time every time. Set it and forget it. Sadly it’s not doing the job it’s self - that would be fun! it’s the only anchor that I have seen achieve these results to date. It’s expensive and it works. My own choice on a budget would be a spade or Rocna. I don’t think they are quite as good but the price may be easier.
@Robzilla501
@Robzilla501 Год назад
Am with you on the rocna. The CQR, wherever it may be now, held my 10ton sparkman stephens without fail,, ok one fail but it was the captains fault who gladly walked the plank, for 6 years of sailing, 2 yrs live aboard.
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
Haha😆 walked the plank! That’s a result for you with the cqr there!

how deep was the tank of sand maybe the delta hit the bottom?
@SailHub
@SailHub 8 месяцев назад
Hey, the tank is more than deep enough for that not to be it’s problem. It’s main issue is that they frequently lye in their sides and give the impression of being set, which they kind of are only it has minimal holding strength.

The Sea Drive website has no meaningful information at all. What info can you share about it?....for example what is the world record for regeneration, how many kW at what speed?
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
Sadly that’s very true at present. I hope they pick that up and sort it as they have a really good product - but no one can find out enough to commit to a purchase!
@robthompson7174
@robthompson7174 Год назад
Do you mean "no one" can find out enough? It's not exactly confidence inspiring. No data, no specs, no test results, no customer case studies, no pricing model, no product literature, not even any contact information that I could see! Ummm maybe I'll pass on this.
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
That’s exactly what I mean! Bonkers really. Thanks for that 😉
@Garryck-1
@Garryck-1 Год назад
I must say, I'm seriously *NOT* a fan of the EcoFlow Power Kits. It becomes a single point of failure that can take down the entire system if something goes wrong with it. Sure, using discrete components for each of your charge controllers, BMS, DC-DC charger, inverters, and so on makes for a more complex system to install, but it becomes much easier to diagnose when faults occur, and unlike with an integrated system, it's often possible to bypass faulty components or find a workaround, that will keep you going until repairs can be made. And it's possible to carry spares of key items for redundancy. With an EcoFlow system, on the other hand, if it fails when you're in some remote, out of the way part of the world, you're essentially dead in the water.
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
Sure, we certainly understand your thoughts, redundancy and easy replacement is a serious bonus on a sailboat! However for those who can’t do their own electrical wiring they will have to pay for an installation which takes time. The EcoFlow system is a game changer for these sailors. A plug and play answer and a serious money saver!
@Garryck-1
@Garryck-1 Год назад
@@SailHub - Yes.. right up to the time when those same sailors are in a 3rd world country with unreliable shipping from the US/Europe, and things go wrong. With a more generic system of interchangeable discrete components from any of a number of vendors, they could probably find someone with a spare part that could be dropped in, and another more skilled fellow cruising sailor to install and test it for them. But by being locked in to a single vendor whose only recourse would be to ship them another complete unit, which may take weeks/months to arrive and clear customs (if, indeed, it arrives at all), they are stuck between a rock and a hard place. If a sailor is not venturing much beyond their home waters, then an EcoFlow *might* be the way to go. But for anyone looking to cross oceans, it would be a mistake, IMO. At the end of the day, ALL electronic devices are prone to failure at sea. When it comes to mission-critical equipment that can mean the difference between life and death, putting all your eggs in one basket is a recipe for disaster.
@SailHub
@SailHub Год назад
@@Garryck-1 I think you nailed it, having worked in the industry for years I think it’s safe to say that the majority of sailors don’t cross oceans and don’t to third world countries, EcoFlow most likely aimed their product at the average sailor.

I was looking at the Zendure system recently for a totally different application, but figured it could work as a boat system. They have these all-in-one boxes with battery and all the other systems, and then separate 'plug and play' batteries so you can add storage. I was thinking have 2 or more all-in-one boxes for redundancy, plus as many separate batteries depending on power needs. Alternatively, maybe someone can build a modular all-in-one box where the control bits can all be easily swapped out individually - so you can carry spares/stuff can be shipped more easily/it can be McGyver'd - a bit like the Framework laptops. More expensive than a rat's nest of individual bits and pieces, but cheap to install and maintain.
@SailHub

@usefulcommunication4516 interesting thoughts, I think we all need redundancy on board! We will definitely check out the Zendure line of products too / thanks!👍⛵️
