I do not consider myself a quitter. I happily spent 9 hours setting up my midi keyboard in a way it would work with FL. Learned a lot. But I am amazed how difficult it is to set up this mic on windows in a way that ANY recording software understands.

This has been very helpful with fine tuning my Blue Yeti presets Mike. The Beyer Dynamic Fox video too. Might you consider adding a video on suggested Audacity EQ settings for the Shure MV7 mic? I find the Shure Motiv app generally too bright/trebly/thin and lacking in resonance for my baritone voice. I've messed around with both high and low pass, boosting the bass to a 12dB peak at around 100hz, and a low shelf for the treble of about +3dB, of course, but am not quite there. Any suggestions? Thanks!
@MikeRussell

It would impossible to tell you how to set your EQ as EQ is different for everyone depending on their voice, their mic and their recording environment.

One other question, when doing voice over, where on the Yeti do you think is best for the gain knob? I'm currently using just under quarter the way up, but that's resulting in about a negative 17 to 20 dB that I then have to normalise upto negative 5. Would you recommend turning gain up? And if so, to achieve what dB in recording?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 2 года назад
It's a difficult question to answer as the ideal is between -12db to -6db which leaves more than enough headroom but also it's about setting the level so you have the very best signal to noise ratio as well.

Loved the video, really helpful. Should I also be normalising the audio or does compressor serve similar purpose?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for your feedback! While compressor does help to even out the audio levels, normalizing can be beneficial in achieving a consistent and optimized overall volume. Consider normalizing in addition to using a compressor for the best results with your Blue Yeti mic.

Omg thank you soooooo much! I've been in darkness and that EQ window brings light 🤗 with noise gate I have attack/decay (ms) as one value; should it ideally be 10 or 100 or other value ? I can't quite hear the difference..

Question: when using blue yeti and audacity, should you use mono or stereo track when doing voiceover?
@MikeRussell

Unless you're recording something like ASMR then you may as well record a mono voice for voiceover

What tips do you recommend for ASMR settings?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 11 месяцев назад
For ASMR settings with the Blue Yeti microphone I recommend using a cardioid polar pattern and adjusting the gain to capture the soft and subtle sounds effectively. Also consider using a pop filter to minimize any unwanted noises and maintain clarity in your recordings.

Do you always have to record and then edit afterwards? Is there no way of setting it so that each time I start recording it always sounds good? Is this how it is on all podcasting apps?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 6 месяцев назад
You'll still likely need to edit and your recordings to achieve the best sound quality. Some analogue gear will do lots of work during the recording however.

@@MikeRussell But how? A lot of people found this issue because it is highly sensitive mic. The problem is when we use noise reduction it ruins the audio a little bit, so I am trying to find the way to reduce it when recording. I found advices to set the gain to 0, on mic.
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Год назад
As I say it's not a problem I've encountered. It is a condenser microphone so will pick up noise from the recording environment which I don't have and that may be the difference.

where do you set the mic on the volume meter
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell Год назад
You want to set your mic quiet enough so it doesn't clip but not too quiet for the signal to noise ratio to allow more noise than signal. Generally between -6ddb and -3db should be ok

My Blue Yeti consistently crashes audacity. Can anyone guess why?
@MikeRussell
@MikeRussell 9 месяцев назад
One possible reason for the consistent crashing of Audacity with Blue Yeti mics could be incompatible driver versions, I suggest checking if your drivers are up to date and reinstalling them if necessary.
