Absolutely love your content!!! I have just bought a 2006 A3 Sportback 2.0 TDi (BKD - 140hp) which I am planning to strip down completely and rebuild and modify both mechanically and cosmetically along the way. They are such fantastic vehicles with so many options for modification. Really looking forwards to your future videos on the 2.0 TDi. Keep up the amazing work.

Agree on the stiffness of s-line suspension. I always thought coilovers would make it even worse given that once you go coilover you are then tempted to lower the ride height as well. What coilovers would you recommend to reduce stiffness and improve ride comfort?
@torquecars
@torquecars Месяц назад
Bilstein and KW are the only 2 I've had experience with, both outperformed s-line for handling and give better ride quality in my humble opinion, just don't wind them down for a massive drop, about 20mm over sline or 40mm over stock usually works best.

Inductions kits do make a difference but it’s all about location of the filter. As you said if you start sucking in more hot or warmer air it take power away. I like to use cone filters and I locate it as low as possible to catch all the fresh it can get and as we know heat rises so why do all tuners instal them so high in the engine bay
@torquecars
@torquecars Год назад
Interesting observation. There is a fear that when cited lower there is a risk of sucking water into the engine. IMHO a properly designed cold air feed will not do this, especially if boxed off slightly from the engine bay and wheel well areas.

Could be a number of things. Check for fault codes this will usually give more of an idea of whats going on. If the car doesn't see 250rpm it will not supply fuel, a weak battery, or dodgy starter motor can cause this. After the car has run, oil has circulated, everything is warmer and the battery has typically had a boost, so the car is more likely to achieve the required starting RPMs. Other issues could be the fuel injectors silted up, fuel filter, blocked EGR/ASV assembly. Check for parasitic battery drain, especially if the battery checks out as ok or passable.

@torquecars Год назад
Thanks for your kind words of encouragment and support. I'll be doing a video on the 1.4 TFSi very soon so watch this space. Catback exhausts will not affect the engine either way IMHO. Downpipes and sports cats will help the turbo spin up more quickly though. Insurance depends on who you are with and I would recommend seeking a specialist for modified cars and you should get a decent rate with all the mods declared. Adrian Flux and Chris Knott are pretty good places to start in the Uk.

Unfortunately the 1.6s aren’t great for getting more power out of. I’ve got a 1.6 MPI and there’s very little you can do, aside from the usual (sport exhaust, intake manifold etc) without serious money involved. And if that’s the case, you may as well invest in a 8p S3 because you’ll never get the value back on a 1.6. I’m considering saving and upgrading to a 3.2 sport model. N/A VR6, 6 speed manual and Quattro. Only downside is fuel economy, and that’s just something you have to learn to live with sometimes

A hard pipe kit, sports catalyst and better flowing intercooler (if you drive it hard quite a lot) are my preferred power mods on these blocks, or for better handling and more fun, invest in a decent suspension setup, the stock suspension is quite hard and crashy on these, but it makes it a fun car to take on the track.

The DSG is usually the limiting factor but these are pretty strong, many of the guys are talking about them handling 400lbft of torque. With a remap and performance cams & fuel upgrades (Autotech High pressure fuel pump) and with the right turbo you should see around 300hp fairly easily and reliably. The remap is quite a cost effective mod, I discovered that pushing beyond this requires quite a bit more cash and outlay. Turbo upgrades are also worth considering, if yours has the KO3s then a KO4 will give you more headroom and these are readily available in the recon and breakers yard markets. Personally I would aim for around 260hp ballpark for cost and reliability purposes.

@torquecars

It is possible but you really want the transmission and shift points to match up to the cars new torque band, without this it will feel flat in places and in some cases you might get error codes or the transmission reaches its torque limits and things get backed off. Can someone explain how the diesel engines have their power increased after a remap while simultaneously gaining MPG?
@torquecars
@torquecars 9 месяцев назад
Improved efficiency, in real terms you hit a power figure at a lower RPM. It doesn't follow on ALL engines but most will gain MPG, and certainly all the VW diesel engines I've had mapped have shown a significant MPG improvement. If you drive it like you stole it then you won't see an improvement, you'll be burning more fuel and hitting much higher power levels. But in everyday driving you'll see both power and economy gains.

Hello, Do the k04’s bolt straight in place of a k03?
@torquecars
@torquecars Год назад
The manifolds and some plumbing (pipework) are different. As the same block handles each variant of turbo if you get a full turbo complete with manifold and pipes it will just bolt on. Mapping should ideally be adjusted at the same time, but lots of people report the K04 running on the stock k03 map (with a few minor issues).
@alphakebab3709
@alphakebab3709 Год назад
I see, I own a 1.8 ea888 gen.1 with a K03 and I’d like to put a hybrid k04 in but I’m unsure of if the manifold for my 1.8 is the same as the 2.0.
@torquecars
@torquecars Год назад
The EA888 engine blocks are identical between the 1.8 and 2.0, it's the pistons and crank that make the difference in HP. SO the manifolds are the same, the heads are the same (generally speaking but were some variations between VAG brands, with port sizes and pcv system design). There were also transverse and longitudinal engines which have different down pipe angles coming from them. Your best option is to check part numbers match on the parts you want to swap in these are usually listed on sites selling these parts. One part is often identified with a few different codes, but if codes match, then you have a "bolt on replacement".

The diesel exhaust flows really well on these, the headers are different but I guess you are talking about doing a cat back setup. Sound wise I'm not a fan of the 2.0TDi exhaust through a loud resonating exhaust setup, mine sounded like a tractor at the best of times. Are you hoping for power or better sound?

I have a 2006 Audi A3 2.0t, is it something that could make reliable power while still daily driving it?
@torquecars
@torquecars Год назад
Definitely consider a remap. You want a little more mid range power for a daily driver. Avoid large peaks and make sure the power doesn't come on at too low a point in the rpm range.

Poly on a fast STREET car are unnecessary. Poly will never last as long as Rubber and cannot take sheer force , CTS Turbo sells new motor mounts that are 60 durometer voidless rubber. Those, with a 034 billet 80 duro rubber dogbone mount, makes for the perfect ride. Mark4 R32

Thanks for the support great tips and encouragement my friend I'm glad you've found us. Poly bushes have advanced much in recent years with many different grades, but you are right, on a street car decent rubber ones are usually the best option. I'll be discussing dog bone mounts in a future video as these can be quite problematic when they start to go.

Hi Is there anything I can do to a 2015 A3 TDI
@torquecars
@torquecars Год назад
Which engine does it have the 1.6 1.9 or 2.0 TDi? In most cases a remap is great. I did some engine specific videos which should give you a good starting point.

A simple remap on that should give you around 45hp more power and 55lbft of torque for max economy a remap of around 30hp should be in the sweet spot for power vs economy and be better than the stock setup. It has the EDC17C64 ecu on it. I will be doing a video on this engine in the near future as a few have asked about it.

Great vid but I have to disagree with your comment about induction kits, here’s a video testing the theory. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n7-cIiumgmE.html

Thanks for taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated and I will adjust my advice slightly in the next video on the 2.0 Turbo. How interesting, but bear in mind it is hard doing a general video like this to cover all A3 engine types as there are so many exceptions. Looking at that video it is interesting to see a 10hp gain on 2.0TFSi stock engine, not massive but a gain nonetheless. But these kits do come into their own when you have other mods as the stock setup is really becoming a restriction. In my experiences most standard turbo engines will gain around 3-5% more power which isn't much in the grand scheme of things and I personally find it hard to justify the cost of an induction kit as a power mod, compared to say a remap which is 1.5 times more expensive but gives 30-40% more power. NA engines are generally about half this power gain or worse, and they tend to lose some low end torque. The other problem is when the engine bay is closed up you are often sucking in much warmer air than you would with a standard intake, or properly designed intake with a cold air feed. (The video shows it shielded from the engine bay which is a good thing in my book, some kits out there are not shielded or boxed in.)
