Best Backcountry Survival Kit - This is my basic backcountry survival kit. I use this when skiing, camping with my family, fishing with friends, snow machining, snowshoeing, rock climbing...you get the picture. It is affordable, reliable and realistic and it works well for my family and I.
This is an enabler...a force multiplier and will increase survivability in any given situation. It should never substitute knowledge, skills and abilities.
It is light weight (1 Pound), each piece has more than one purpose, can be purchased for about $40.00, can fit in any manner of pack, can fit on belt or shoulder rig and is MY version of MY ideal survival kit. I have tested this kit on several occasions while in serving SAR Units, Military Service and while Earthroaming.

Dude i have been watching your videos. I have seen you survive with a rock! Yea i said a rock! you made a blade and did some stuff. hiked into the mountains and made a killer king size bed from grasses and some large branches.. I think the best think you carry is your brain.. Ok ok... i can see that your little kit is like carring the taj mahal. it is a great kit. Knowledge is everything.. Thanks for the in site. i am going to use some of that to refine my own kit. J

No worries...most important aspect of this kit is for my family. It makes a tough situation a little better!!! Cheers!

@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks yea but if you were in a situation with your family, i am sure you would make them far more comfortable then i would be capable of doing. That said that is why i follow your channels and watch your videos.. Everything i learn i carry with me and can recall in a pinch.. thanks you for sharing that knowledge. It saves lives J

Great stuff man. 👍 I still am a bit reliant on my "gear" I drop things as my skills increase. still have a way to go. have knowledge on how to.do things but if I haven't put in the dirt time and put it to practice it doesn't count for me. like all your videos. I learn something new every time.

Primitive skills are our origins but we’ve both been quasi hypothermic when holding a Bic is challenging….let alone a hand drill 😉

This was a great video. So many interesting ideas. Noted you were in search and rescue. With that in mind where would be the best place to keep the card with all your info medical etc,
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks 5 лет назад
Best place...in your pocket, wallet and your kit...what do I mean...redundancy. Have more than one. We would check for wallets, but no everyone hikes with their wallet in their pants. A medical alert bracelet, dog tag or identifier let’s responders know the subject is unique and requires different attention.

I love your easy explanation of reason for what you have chose, from previous experience and knowledge, that you professionaly brought to purpose for this video! That praise being stated........ I was disheartened when you pulled your emergency pack out of your backpack. Really? Your "survival pack" is kept in your backpack? Well then, it's not a survival pack then is it!?! Come correct or don't come at all!

Sure, this video is now 2+ years old...... But really, someone should have called this out before now. Again though, I love your videos.......just......have someone like minded fact check some of your potentially important videos from time to time. Ok, I'm done griping. I still love your content no matter what I take away from it,

Donny just wondering, this has been the second kit I've seen you talk about the other for when you are scouting. What's your thoughts on first aid beyond the tools you are currently using for multiple purposes like the Hi-viz belt. I've often worried about what if I or someone else had a major laceration and potential of loss of blood.
@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks

Gary...great question. Most back country injuries fall into the CALIP...Crush, Abrasion, Laceration, Incision and Puncture realm. I bring a separate, very small first aid kit to cover the CALIP. Aside from twisted ankles, most injuries are from carelessness and knives.

@@DonnyDustsPaleoTracks thanks man. My son is currently working on a military skills extra curricula class for his ROTC unit. 1 of them in military first aid. That information I think may help him. Also I was wondering how you handle it because of the potencial problems that occur. Shit happends might as well be prepared.
