The Oupes Mega 5 is a powerful 4,000w inverter solar generator that has a lot of battery expandability and solar input. I have a secret hack to get 240v split phase power off of this 120v system.

This would be a great product for anyone with an RV or an off-grid cabin, where they wanted to move this beast around between those places and then use it for home backup. For just an off-grid home solar solution, there are better options, for sure. EG4, 6000XP - $1,500. EG4, 5.1Kwh. LFP, server-rack battery - $1,259. 50% more inverter capacity, split-phase output, almost infinite expandability, and $450 less. Each additional 5Kwh of capacity is a full $1,000 less.

I'm trying to decide on what type of solar equipment I need and hope you can guide me on the system I should look at. I currently use a Generac GP8000E gas generator as a backup source for my home. The biggest Item I may connect at night is a small window AC unit. I also own an RV that that I would like to use the system to power small appliances and maybe a 18K BTU AC. I'm looking for a unit that I can use both at home and while camping. Thanks.

The thing that keeps me wanting an Apollo system is the amount of solar you can have. On your chart the Solar Charge #1 Watts 20,000 which is double of the closest competitor. It also is top in lifetime cycles which is an important metric. I just wish they made it more portable without the huge cart they sell.

Great review! I actually have the Mega 5 with B5 extra battery, And I agree it's a shame the B5 backup battery does not have the solar charge port to charge both separately. As noted on the video, be careful not to exceed 150 volts when charging the Mega 5 including Mega 3 and Mega 2 these two are rated not to exceed 150 volts. It's important to have portable solar equipment as backup, I recommend getting at least two solar generators if budget allows and a third solar generator would be even better. Plus, be prepared getting proper number of solar panels to maximize the 150-volt limit. Depending on various brand type solar panels, Running panels in series with the Oupes Mega series wattage will vary from 1200W to 1440W staying under 150 volt this has been my experience with various types of panels and that's with Mega 2 and Mega 3 both with its own B2 battery. I like the auto transformer setup; I wonder if this would operate a 240v dryer using the Mega 5? Thanks for the super review!

@minutemanprep
@minutemanprep 3 месяца назад
If I get the chance, I aboslutely will. In short, the F800 has the cool split phase option built into it but the solar input is lacking. In the end, as always, it always depends on what you want to run that will determine what system is best for you. The Mega 5 is incredible, but it's not the perfect fit for all situations. The same will apply to the F3800.

I’ve been looking at the Mango Power E lately. If you buy two of those it’s $4500 I like them because of the CATL batteries, but what do you think of those compared to the system here?
@minutemanprep
@minutemanprep 3 месяца назад
Do not buy them. I had 4 of them die. All 4. My update reviews on the Mango show them not working. There was a large push on Mangos roughly 18 months ago and initially they looked great, but there are next to no updated reviews. I am supposed to get 2 new units, making that 6 units I'll have received. After I complete 4 weeks of testing on them I will do another update video. Whatever you do, do not buy them. The CATL batteries are great but that is not the problem. Their inverters are dying left and right. I'm happy to help you find another system if you'd like. info@poweredportablesolar.com.

Sorry for the confusion, but on the Ultracap tab, the specs are for 2 AC500s. So there are a total of 4 MPPTs between two AC500s. 1,500w per MPPT. MPPT1 from Unit 1 & 2 is 3,000w, MPPT2 from unit 1 and 2 is 3,000w. It's a little confusing. @minutemanprep
@minutemanprep 3 месяца назад
Low frequency, high peak inverters are not worth the extra expense, weight, or hassle because the vast majority of people do not need extremely high peak power on their inverters. Everyone likes to dog on the high frequency inverters but it's how the vast majority of people can get into solar and long term power. I've been running one of my older high freq inverters for over 4 years non-stop without a single hiccup. The failure rate is extremely low, but not as low compared to low freq inverters.

Low frequency inverters for the same size, are typically on a couple of hundred dollars more than a low budget high frequency inverter and they last far longer. While a low frequency, transformer based inverter can easily last 10 to 15 years in everyday use. you'd be luck to get even get 2 to 5 years out of a high frequency inverter. I know this to be fact because I repair inverters for a living. Have done so for the past 24 years.@@minutemanprep
