It was this review that sealed the deal for me, I was shopping many systems. You tested the key usability features, not just max output. Thank you. ordered my mega 2. Now to figure out how many batteries I'll need...

I'm glad to hear it! The beauty of the Mega 2 is you can add lots of B2 batteries. So you can always start with one or two, then add more if you need.

I like that the extra batteries have dc outputs on them. Something some of the big names do not have on their extra batteries. If you do not need ac power than you could just get the battery and have dc power.

Thank you Ben. I had heard that the mega 2 30 amp plug had some limitations, but some of the reviews did not mention it and one did, so I was confused. I will primarily be using this RV. So I’m thinking that the mega three will be the way I will go your review is awesome thanks again

If the DPs had an additional 1600 watt solar input and their batteries were similar to these with the same solar input and outputs they would be hard to beat. I like the idea of split phase and getting 30A @ 240V

Bought one and using it like an ups in my server rack. Networking gear and servers are drawing between 600-700 watts. I should get about 2 - 2.5 hours of backup power. I also have rackmount ups’ between the mega 2 and gear. Backing up the backup.

One critical factor I've discovered in my research on these devices vs. building my own system is that the customer has zero control over the quality of the parts used in the systems. These "budget" systems cost less for a reason. Quality is being sacrificed somewhere. While the AC inverter sounds impressive with 2400 watts rating with 5400 watts surge, the reality is, this is likely going to be the weak point, and the biggest reason your generator will fail. Why? Most of these portable generators do not use the more robust low frequency inverters with beefy transformers. These devices use high frequency inverters that are transformerless. These do not last as long and more prone to failure quicker when using heavy loads such as air conditioners, microwaves, cooktops and power tools. They will wear out faster. The warranty is 3 years and that's the confidence level this company has your device will last. Oupes is not alone. Many of the portables use high frequency inverters that can't handle power loads as well or for as long as transformer based ones. That said, I have no idea how long these will last. If you are a casual camper, it may last 10 years or more. I simply don't know. When you see reviewers do the FM radio interference test, they probably have no idea why they are doing it other than copying each other. But it is a quick, though not definitive test if your AC inverter is high frequency or not. Now, the advantage of high frequency inverters are they weigh much less, which is kind of important in a portable generator. They also take up less space. Oupes seems to have chosen good air flow and high noise to help reduce the strain on these cheaper inverters. Yes, the Mega 2 uses a high frequency inverter. I'm guessing pretty much any model below this, and likely even the Mega 3 and Mega 5 also use them. It's not just Oupes, I'm guessing most other brands also do. So, for campers, you are probably OK. RVers, you are probably OK unless the RV is your permanent home. Off Grid, light backup duty should be OK. Otherwise, permanent RVers and off grid homes should build with quality components that will last and that can be replaced without having to buy the entire all-in-one system.

This really looks good. But I am so invested in EcoFlow delta pro’s, EB’s and smart generators that I felt I should stay with EF. I purchased a delta 2 max w/ an extra battery and the new 800w alternator charger. Plan to get another extra battery before 50% government tariffs kick in.

You must have enough portable solar generators to power a small army! 😆 I’m more of an elitist. I only buy the best (Ecoflow, Bluetti, etc.) and don’t bother with anything else so its nice seeing videos of the smaller names that try to compete. Love the videos. Keep up the great work! 👍

This review made my decision, being able to add solar with just another battery is awesome. Makes it worth it. Normally I would have to get a whole new system to expand. I will probably get the Omega 3 though, need more AC. I wonder if it has true 30a connector?

Ben. Awesome review as usual. Are there limitations on the 30 amp plug on this mega 2 vs the mega 3? Want to use the mega 2 for powering my pop up trailer when dry camping. Of course I’d grab 1 or 2 expansion batteries. Thanks as always.

The only difference between the Mega 2 and Mega 3 is that the Mega 3 has a 50% larger internal battery, and a 3,600w inverter instead of 2,500w inverter. The Mega 3 uses the B2 expansion batteries, has the same mppt as the Mega 2, and the same screen. You can run the full 30a from the Mega 3, whereas the Mega 2 you only get up to 20.8a even from the TT30 rv plug.

Majoring in the minors, sorry, Recovering engineer turned teacher turned steam plant operator. * 2:48 determined the expansion battery cable on the left side but you never stood back and plugged it in. * Also, expansion cable jacks must be either/or as it is plugged into the lower jack; I would think that the complete unit, when stacked, would have best see the plug in the upper jack of the expansion battery going from upper deck to lower jack on the second battery. * Slow down 10% * A lot more work but some graphics on math would help 5:26 while a secondary feature of the expansion battery, you never explained that the car 12-volt car outlet could be used for a small AC inverter, or even a small DC refrigerator for a small cabin like mine. Not so minor is the fact that the Oupes website says the EPS is ≤20ms. You identified it as a problem, but you never checked the specs. I'm seriously considering this as a first foray into portable power up at my building. I have a 12 KW portable generator but also a 2200 Honda inverter generator. Everything has its place. Don't think I would trust this for a stand-alone walk away refrigerator. I could also take it up to power my home air handler should my home SMA system fail completely fail, 120V, 20A so barely.

If I didn't do the Oupes extension B2 to the Mega 2, could I connect a Bluetti AC180? For more WH and extend battery life? It's on sale right now for 569, instead of paying 1000+ for B2. Even tho B2 is 2048wh vs Bluetti 1152 wh.

My wife and I have had a really good service with this company. I currently have 6 of the Oupes power stations and love them. They stand behind their products. I've had their 1200 watt unit since it was first introduced earlier last year. I use them everyday for power to reduce our utility bills.

@ 4:37. I have to stop you right there. I have a question, which I've been wondering about with many reviewers, not just you Ben, but what I really would like to know is.......When a company, like Oupes sends you one of their products for review, *do you have to return the product after a couple of days once you have completed your review, or do you get to keep the product ?*
@minutemanprep
@minutemanprep 7 месяцев назад
Sometimes they get returned, sometimes they get sent to other reviewers, sometimes I get to keep them to do additional testing. That's how I have found issues in long term tests with other units such as the Mango. I got to keep it so I kept running tests and found after a couple of weeks they died.
@itsallminor6133
@itsallminor6133 7 месяцев назад
@@minutemanprep lot of these companies don't seem to have been in business long and are located out of, or sourced from china. Bluetti for example gets tons of sponsored reviews but no one brings up the vast complaints. Can you contact some U.S. manufacturers and test their products? Include things as consumer complaints, company longevity as it obviously effects potential warranty claims? Because thats part of the problem. Reviewers state "this comes with a 4 year warranty" but don't even mention the odds of collecting on that warranty.

I'm surprised and how little your reputation means to you, you sell yourself very, very cheaply!
