I don't do many product reviews these days.
The exception is when I find something that's really stands out and can be a game changer.
In this video you'll see the Pocket Radar Smart Coach go head to head with my $1,199 pro scouting gun, the Stalker Pro 2. Watch the video to see how it did.
This video also answers question like:
-- Is the pocket radar accurate?
-- Which baseball velocity radar is better... the Ball Coach vs Smart Coach?
--- Is the Pocket Radar just for pitchers? Or does the Pocket Radar work for hitting? Will the Pocket Radar measure Exit Velocity?
This video is a Pocket Radar product review that also compares the Pocket Radar Smart Coach vs Ball Coach to explain the differences.
(This will also be helpful if you're wondering " How to measure exit velocity ")

UPDATE:
It was brought to my attention that the Stalker Pro 2 CAN (and I quote) "measure outbound speeds you just need to change a setting in the sub menu system. You can set it to Inbound, Outbound, or Both. Both will allow you to get 3 speeds on one reading. Release speed, roll down, and batted ball launch speed. Also, in the sub menu you can set the Minimum speed to as low as 0mph."
As a Major League scout I never needed either of those features, but it's nice to know they exist. The purpose of this video was to compare the accuracy of the Pocket Radar against the industry standard radar, not give a full overview of the Stalker Pro 2. But I always want give accurate information, so there you go.

Love my Smart coach Pocket Radar. Regarding the battery life con- mine has a micro USB port that I just use to run off an external battery when attached to the fence. I think only the Smart Coach version has this feature.

The stalker will pick up speeds away, you just need to set up the gun to go towards or away from the gun.

How do you take live batted ball exit speeds ? Who cares about batting tee speeds.

I have the pocket radar ball coach and I find it to be very inaccurate it was consistently 6-7 mph off what my velocity is on a stalker

When it gets low battery it is really inaccurate!

Hi, which one is accurate? In some articles I came to know that ball coach is not accurate, could you please recommend one?

The Stalker 2 is the MLB industry standard. So it's the most accurate. It's also very expensive. The Pocket Radar was consistently the same result or one mph off. For being a quarter of the price, this is more than enough accuracy for most people

@@ProBaseballinsider So means Pocky Radar is some how reliable and a bit affordable specially for fun users. Stalker suites clubs or international levels.

There are two different pocket radar guns. The Ball Coach Radar Gun is $300. This gun isn’t always very accurate. The other Smart Coach Radar Gun is $400. This gun is very accurate and matches up with the thousand dollar guns. It also is compatible with the Pocket Radar app.

As far as cons go: I use the smart coach version for my daughter’s pitching, and I love it. I usually use it in continuous mode for my daughter’s pitching lessons, and I don’t even put the batteries in anymore. I just attach a USB battery pack, and I’ve never come close to running out of battery power. The only con I have for it is that it picks up every ball moving. So not only does it track her pitch, it records the catcher’s throw back to her, if there is another pitcher in the alley next to her it records all of their throws, on occasion it has recorded hits off batters having batting lessons a couple lanes over from her. And a few times it has even picked up the movement of the nets as they are blown by the industrial fans used to cool the facility down. I’ve learned I can only really use it in continuous mode if she has the facility to herself, and even then I have to delete out all of the catcher’s throws back to her. Still, I love this product!

I remember once during a tryout last summer the coach was catching and trying to get our velo with a pocket radar and I threw one ball and his eyes got so wide and he told someone to catch and he wasn’t going to take my velo anymore

Do you actually own a Stalker Pro 2, because your info about it is very wrong. It can measure outbound speeds you just need to change a setting in the sub menu system. You can set it to Inbound, Outbound, or Both. Both will allow you to get 3 speeds on one reading. Release speed, roll down, and batted ball launch speed. Also, in the sub menu you can set the Minimum speed to as low as 0mph

@@ProBaseballinsider how dare you have an unbiased opinion on a product without being compensated by a company??????? Only kidding , I actually found your review to be extremely informative and useful. I've actually been looking to purchase a radar gun myself but I couldn't justify the price point in relation to my needs for a radar tool. Honestly I just want one for casual use........maybe to get a reading on my golf ball exit velocity, I also play disc golf so I was wanting to see my disc speed as well as my friends' speed, and even curious about my bowling ball speed. Even though my local bowling alley has a speed readout on the scoreboard, it's wildly inaccurate since it reads the ball speed as it impacts the speed, not speed upon release. I don't necessarily NEED a radar gun, hence the reason I have never purchased one, but I think it would he useful and helpful to have one to make adjustments in my golf swing and bowling release. For $400, and after watching numerous videos, I think I can justify purchasing one, even if the speed can be a mile an hour off. It's good enough to give me an accurate base reading to determine if any changes I make are helpful or harmful
