I have that same Little Mark combo 500w 2x10" and wouldn't change it for the world. Not only that i love the sound, but the design - wow! It's the only truly powerful amp that I can actually lift with ease and carry around! Also, it has two handles, so two people can carry it. You can sit on it, or tilt it and use it as a monitor, put it sideways on smaller stages... Or take the amp out and take it with you without the cab, if there's a cab at the venue. Brilliant!
Needed a small bass amp for home practice (and my Laney combo would just blow the doors off), so picked up a Joyo MA-10B - I absolutely love it. Its 'tone window' is pretty narrow - but fortunately, it's spot on for the tone I needed. My buy of the year.
I like the sound of the Joyo, I was surprised when I heard it. I like the form factor of smaller bass amps, that's why I bought the Phil Jones Suitcase many years ago and still use it to this day.
Good video because it shows it really is practical for home or on the go practice to have mini bass amps. TC Electronics was an innovator in this regard, and they should be in the top three, over all the years.

I've most recently been using a HOTONE THUNDER BASS head (1.0 lbs) jacked into the the guitar input of my GK MB-500 head (3.75 lbs with Neutrik out jacks) which I run into my Hartke 112B cabinet and an older Ampeg PB112H Rare Earth Magnet cabinet (which has collapsing handle & rollers) Works great for smaller venues & the GK has an XLR output to go to the sound system in larger venues. It also has a ground lift & a pre/post selector to accommodate the sound system requirements. Provides plenty of volume and bottom end. Only trade-off is the GK has 500 watts out & my cabinets have 300 & 200 watts tolerance, so I never crank the GK more than about 60% +/- volume & gain to prevent speaker burnout. 👍😁😎🎸

i'm happy with my Phil Jones - this video proofed my choice once again. In my opinion it would have been more comparable by using the same flat settings and playing the same bassline.
I have recently bought this Joyo just for fun having BT backing track from my mobile... I am still suprised how great it sounds with my JB and just a touch of overdrive and compression. Two things suck. When you use Bluetooth you hear an annoying buzz and the second sucker is the external power source (but of course, you can't fit the power source into such a small frame).
I recently went with a Warwick Gnome I Pro (280w) with a Warwick Gnome 2x10 (300w) cabinet. All in, it costs less than the Boss Katana and has 120w more power. Loud & light as a feather too 😁👍
The VOX VX50 BA is a pretty good amp for your living room. It's light yet has a good sound, with compression and distortion, although I don't find the distortion too useful though.
Don't know the year this came out but it's the Year I got it, the Trace Elliot ELF. I use it with the ELF 10' cabinet. 10" is the smallest speaker I've ever used as I always used 18" live, (B4 DI of course). Easily compares its sound and clarity with my Trace Elliot AH600SMX. Easily. I keep looking up to see if the stack is on, it's that nice.
The late 80's and early 90's were the era of the most durable amps ever made. The best sounding too. There is a reason many bassists still swear by their SVT-2's and 400+'s. Tone is stored in the weight of the amp!
I think Markbass amps are superior, I have 3 of them. I agree that 500 watts is plenty for bass. I was surprised by the 2 tiny amps you demoed. Love the sound of your J Bass!
I know they are kind of boring now but the little Rumble 40 I picked up for practice weighs just a little more than the Phil Jones and cost me $500 less. The Rumble 500 is just 16.5kg and can compete with some other rigs that weigh & cost twice as much. Do you like any of the Fender Amps? They pack a lot of punch for the low weight and wondered if any of them interested you if you disliked them for some reason?

I want an amp with some bad ass gain / distortion built in. I play rock and metal and have zero intrest in a clean tone. Blasphemy, I know, but that's what I want. So, without breaking the bank, what would you suggest. You can suggest pedals too but really, I just want a bass amp with a brutal distorted tone.

Mit zunehmendem Alter finde ich kleine Amps immer besser. Ein winziger Speaker soll es zwar nicht sein, aber ein guter Musiker lässt ja bekanntlich auch nicht so kostspieliges Equipment in angenehmer Weise erklingen
this video could be called 5 diffrent bass amp concepts. why did you not compair the chors effect in the boss to the dark glass? what did GK make in 22 my GK plex pedle sounds like a GK through a powered speaker. what is the wattage of the Dark glass? your bass playing is solid. have you considered doing direct tonl comparisons? one amp one riff next amp same riff as the first and so on? well made but low information.
