If Ibanez offers you something, never reject it. They are known for maintaining their quality control even on lowest end instruments. Something that even giants like Gibson struggles with. An Ibanez will never let you down.
I played the video just when RU-vid indicated that it was uploaded barely 5 minutes ago. Considering that is a 24 minute long video and already has 1 dislike lol, I mean some people are just full of nonsense, jealous or something. Good video Henning, as always. Cheers!
I don't get that "dislike culture" anyway. I don't even dislike videos I don't like, I don't watch them. If it's not my music I skip the video. It's not my cup of tea, I skip the video. Sometimes I give a like to just show respect to the effort of making the video even if it doesn't scratch my surface. To be honest, the dislike button is the most pointless thing in internet history ever, especially because it's abused in so many cases like the one you just mentioned. Another fact I can't stand: Disliking a video and leaving no comment about why. As you said, nonsense, jealousy or something (bullshittery, idiocracy)...
Adriano Jameson what they are doing is trying to tell RU-vid not to recommend this type of video in the future. I don’t do it, but that’s generally what’s happening.
Just bought a brand new one today and honestly its such a brilliant guitar, so easy to play for both clean and distorted. Can do everything on this, a good guitar even for people past beginner
I love how cheaper guitars are going for the rounded, more comfortable neck joint for bolt on guitars instead of the awful metal plate with screws. I like how they used a natural headstock instead of the black one. It goes better with the strat vibes. The thing with this guitar is that you can buy some locking tuners, some Seymour Duncans and upgrade the guitar and it would have that next step guitar feeling without having to buy a whole new guitar
I totally agree with the headstock and, of course, the neck joint. I think I wouldn't bought it with a black headstock, at least with that color. Maybe the black one, but not a mint green metallic with glossy finish 😁
I know this is an old comment, but i have the excact same GRX40 but it's older. It has the metal plate with four screws. Seems like they improves it, nice.
I bought one after seeing this review. Just got mine from T. Absolutely stunning what you get for the low price. Smooth neck, no scratches. Just a perfect guitar. Sounds really really good.
It is unbelievable what gear you can get for a steal nowadays compared to when I started playing the guitar 25 years ago. My Ibanaze GSA 60 is in use about the same amount of time that my Harley Benton Fusion II or my Gibson Les Paul Studio Bonamassa is. I even pull out the 69 buck Behringer V Tone Strat Copy from time to time because it has some tones the others do not offer... Play what feels right for you and most of all what incourages you to pick it up.
I own this one (same color) since mid April and can only 100 % agree. If you wipe the GIO label nobody would ever think it's a 179,- EUR guitar 😜 It's the only one I have with single coils so it's easy to get the purpose of it. It's going to be replaced more and more by my Harley Benton Fusion-II (Neck Humbucker with coil split) but only occasionally. It's a solid guitar, stays decent in tune (if you leave the whammy bar where it belongs -> the cardbox). I was surprised how good the bridge humbucker sounds with high gain and high distortion. Not saying it sounds phenomenal (compared to my Ibanez RGs), but it's pretty decent. About the video: It's awesome you plug a beginner guitar into really expensive equipment to evaluate how the guitar CAN sound like with it, and that's more than legit. But, hows about to get a really popular lower price range amp to let people know how it sounds with a cheap combo like Boss Katana 50 MKII or with the brandnew Harley Benton Tube 15? I know it's getting biased if you do it only with one reference low end amp, but why not? Pick YOUR reference amp or two and compare the low end guitars on them and recommend them, because it's your channel 🎸🤘
The cheap guitar of my day, **cough**, was known as shit... The inexpensive guitars of today are for the most part damn good comparatively speaking!!! I wonder had I had an inexpensive guitar to learn on would I not suck so bad now..... nahhhhh. I really want an E-Bahn-yez for my collection. Thanks Henning! Top shelf as usual.
Oh, tremoolo stability :) I started on a cheap Jolana Galaxis guitar of Czecho-Slovak origin. It did have a tremolo and I remember a guy in the studio asked me if I ever use it. Of course, I said, at the end of one song :) He went on to put that quote on his 'Quote Wall'.
30 Oct 2021... I juz bought this amazing Ibanez GRX40 Candy Apple Red. Was interested at Ibanez GRS60 Sunburst as I love HSS pick up. Tried both GRS60 & GRX40 & found that this GRX40 tones sound much way better. And my son loving it.
Got this like a week ago because I wanted to start playing guitar and I have to say it's frickin amazing... Although I'm still learning on how to make sertain tones it's still really enjoyable and fun to play
I've bought one of theese to my niece last month. Way better than Harley Benton TE-52. Tremolo is useful, it teach you how to tune your gitar so often that you will need no tuner after a while :D
How strange. Just finished the dismantling of my RG350EX for an upcoming mod video on my show and then I saw this video from the RU-vid master of reviews. Ibanez are truly a wonderful producer of value for money products upto the RG line and then of course the Pia and Prestige become pretty expensive. Personally would have gone for the RG series as have seen many flaws in the GIO line but this looks great. That green looks amazing.
Haha I bought an Ibanez GRX40 in 1997 and it was more expensive and totally not comparable to cheap guitars made today. The guitars of today are just far superior. Pickups, hardware, everything is better. Thank you techonolgy :D
I like it! Love the metallic colour and overall appearance, there is also a nice variety of tones. It's a great value for money guitar. Thanks for posting.
I still own my first ever guitar from 20 odd years ago, probably more. Its a good grx140. Still works, still plays and sounds OK. Sure its a cheaper guitar but it works
Jatoba is that before or after Rocktober? Earth time is weird. Who gets all the daylight savings time? Is there a bank of daylight we are saving for the vampire wars? That Bogner module sounds amazing!
Thx for reviewing this guitar. Well the point is this: This model is not made for making money. Models like this are made to bind young players to the brand through providing good quality instruments at a very competitive price. And as they grow older and become better guitar players they will buy more expensive models from the same brand. Ibanez doesn't make their money with cheap instruments, they make their money with intermediate and high level instruments. That's why they can provide cheap instruments with really good quality without the need of making any profit with these instruments. On the other hand, Brands like Harley Benton make their money in the low price segment not in the intermediate or in the high price segment. The only way to make a profit with low price instruments is by lowering the quality (e.g. labour intensive work like taking care of the fretwork and setting up the guitar). That's what they do and that's exactly the reason why in the low price segment Ibanez can provide a much better instrument than Harley Benton. If you look at it from a business perspective it all get's very clear.
That is a beauty guitar with a sound as good as you could coax out of a high end F or G. Thanks to the nice amplifier. Another fine example of why cheap guitars rule.
"That was in 1990...which was about 4 years ago." 🤣🤣🤣 Always likes Ibby; wish we had this kind of quality at this price point when I started playing. 🤘🙏
Tone-Dots are important the more centered the more even the tone is the higher they are the tone gets higher. funny is if they are uneven all over the fretboard so the tone changes depending on the fret you are on
Love a good deal. I got an HB partly on your recommendation and it's pretty frickin' good. If you reckon this is too then that's good enough for me. Still loving your work. Great production, highly amusing repartee, and generally, you don't really suck too much. So, all Good then. 🤩
I have the candy apple red GRX40. I wanted a cheap guitar I could take to University so I didn’t have to worry about looking after my real babies. I wasn’t expecting much but for what she is, she does a hell of a job. If you’re just starting out or just like the colour... BUY THIS GUITAR!!!
@@efemji I also bought an Ibanez GRX40. Before that I had an old Squire. The Ibanez GRX40 is much better. Solid, cool, easy to handle. And the fretboard is very smooth!
@@mate-g might pickup this instead of squier, I saw some cheap Japanese guitar called bacchus, looks pretty good but costs as much as the squier affinity series, just a bit cheaper like 10-20 dollars diff sounds nice, but I think I go with this one since my budget is not that big and I need an amplifier haha
My beginner Guitar was an (original) strat. I sold it and bought another strat with 22 frets. For metal stuff I use an LTD with emgs in it and I dont need anything else for years now.
I still remember when my buddy helps me to buy a guitar, he test a lot of beginners guitar but when he test the GRX40 he was like, bro... this guitar sound quite good for that price.
I love HSS equipped guitars and it is really a pitty that Ibanez is incapable to offer not one RG with HSS configuration in the Premium and Prestige line. Even if you tab or split a Humbucker it never comes close to a real single coil.
Hi man, great review. What would you say for Ibanez grx20? Can you also do some similar review, or can you tell something about it. Thanks a lot. Great video and interesting approach.
I got 2, a 2017 white one and a 2021 model the same as this one. The 2017 has a 2 point bridge and a scarf joint in the neck. The 2021 has a 6 point bridge and no scarf joint. Both sound great, but the tuning stability on the 2021 is better.
I almost bought this guitar except that I found squier ht strat which is more to my liking. Long time ago I bought jackson js10 which is beginner's guitar for hundred bucks and it came with a full size metal block which was nice. The guitar was perfect out of the box and the only thing I didn't like on it was the string spread at the nut. Normally these types of guitars have locking nut but whenever they go the cheap route and install normal nut, it doesn't work. Same with the new kramer baretta, so folks be aware.
I've just bught it thanks to your recomandation (red) as my first sigle coils guitar (I already own 2 HH guitars) and really liking it a lot. Eventualy I will switch the Humbucker to DiMarzio Cruch Lab in some time but the one that it's there right now is quit solid for sure. Thanks Henning for good advice!
The big problem with these guitars is the nut is way to high off the first fret you have to lower the nut slots and widen them to get good action or just have good one install then a good set up.
what a funny man.. i like how you explain that guitar... haha i just... planing some plan to buy GRX40, i watch many videos about it but still confused... 😁😁 can u give me some recommendations, between Ibanez GRX40, Cort G110, or Yamaha pacifica 112j... which one is better.. i love to play almost all of songs by Japanese Rock, L'Arc en Ciel ( i hope u know that 🤣🤣), A7x, a little Metallica, or Jazz, or blues song, i mean.. which one are suitable for multi-genre.. i hope u, or someone maybe would reply me... thx a lot 😁😁
Doesn't sound bad, but - ceramic magnet pickups. And ... I wish electric guitar necks in general were just a bit wider, I suspect 42mm is too narrow for a significant number of guitar players. Jatoba - also known as Stinky Toe wood :-)
Thanks for the nice test! How about a comparison of Ibanez GIO RG Style (this one) with Ibanez (GIO) SA Style with same HSS configuration? Why? Because the SA seems to be quite a bit lighter and somewhat more comfortable. Ask Nita - her JIVA is basically a S(A) style guitar, albeit with HSH config.
Save 200 more and go for the RG2FM ! Best Ibanez you will ever have...i just returned an AXION LABEL 1000 euros for the RG2FM 399 euros. Jaw dropping sound!
Where can I find Lemmings!! I've looked everywhere and can't find anywhere to stream it or even listen on youtube. If any one knows where to listen to it please let me know
feel sorry for the beginners who get pretty slabs of plywood which don't stay in tune. This seem like it could be the exception to the rule (if you loose the trem bar)
I'm looking into getting this guitar but I can't find a video that looks into the tremolo arm very well. Can anyone tell me if the tremolo on this guitar is any good in terms of keeping it's tuning?
@@EytschPi42 Yeah I did some asking around on reddit and people recommended I get a beginner guitar with a foxed bridge. I still really would love a whammy but I could always get it on a better guitar once I'm settled down and have saved up.
