If you are wanting a machine suitable for sewing handbags, wallets, purses and a wide range of other leather goods then I would check out this new Cowboy cb246 machine I just got in. Most products we make at Wild Harry (see link below) can be made using this machine and it would be one of the best most used machines I would recommend if you were after a small cylinder arm machine.
It can take up to 10mm (3/8") thickness and thread from metric 60 up to 20 (45 to 138). One very good feature is the wide range of commonly available feet that it uses which are quite inexpensive compared to some other machine brands and types.
This video is the first of a few I will be making showing the many features this machine has to offer.
Subscribe if you want to see more on this machine and share if you care. Hey and hit that like button on my video channel - it helps me to make more of these.
I offer training and after sales support as part of most of the package deals from the local Cowboy dealers. Contact me if you would like to know more or come and try one out in the below links -

Hey Brian, I received my Cowboy CB246 in early Feb from Sun Valley Trading, I've only just managed to set it up & can't wait to start experimenting & all I can say is thank goodness for your video's, as like others have said there's not much information available. I definitely need a light, I'll have to check out one like you've got on your machine, thanks for your help...Jenn.

Wowww you not only demonstrated but your bags are beautiful. I’m looking for a cylinder but so costly for a beginner. I prefer a used one

You have modified every single bag design so that you never have to a) paint edges and b) handsew anything. Which is awesome, keep teaching us master :)

You must be one of the few who watched it all the way through. I have to say well done edging is time consuming and if I can do without it by better design I will.

@@wildharry3203 Εh if you've nailed down your bell skiver techniques and hardware and settings like you have, then yep it is easier to roll every edge. But skivers are a massive pain to get them right.
@wildharry3203
@wildharry3203 Год назад
@@SP-nx8qx First bell skiver I bought was a Fortuna without a vacuum and I hated it that much I gave it away. Next one I bought with a vacuum and I made up a roller for the top presser foot and since then I almost never have any issues. If you follow the steps I show in this video I did on a Cowboy model you should find very little issues normally -ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SjYI5DIzKBs.html In the links above you will see how you can contact me if you want and I can give you some help if you still need it.

@@wildharry3203 Hey I got this exact same model, but with another sticker (Typical). For AUD$1300 I couldn't say no :) It came with a shaping stone, because that's what this is, this is not a sharpening stone. So I shaped it once the first time, and now I sharpen it from the top with an 800 grit sandpaper glued on a popsicle stick. It's as sharp as it gets, that's not the problem. My problem is that I alternate a lot from the softest-stickiest chrome tan to the hardest bridle, and everything in between, and each one of them needs finetuning in settings to get it perfect. It is what it is, if I had 3 of them I'd set each one up differently.
@wildharry3203
@wildharry3203 Год назад
@@SP-nx8qx The Typical machine does not come with a lot of the changes made to the Cowboy 801 as shown in the video I linked above. A vacuum assist waste removal being just one and the full bell knife cover another, separate motor for the bell to be able to run continuously and a few more things. If you check through my RU-vid channel on bell skiver videos you will see that it would never take more than a minute to change from soft to hard leather whatever the thicknesses. This is a playlist - ru-vid.com/group/PLeyTwUv5-whHSlCn5OD0wHbLy4lRbQ20T I am always happy to talk with other leatherworkers to discuss how I do stuff and you are more than welcome to come look and see for yourself. Give me a call.

Hi Harry, Excellent video. How does the 246 compare to the Techsew 4800? I can't find the 246 in the USA. Thanks!

Your two videos are the only references I can find to a cowboy CB246 model. Does it go by a different model number elsewhere?

I think the Cowboy CB246 is only called that in Australia. It is a copy of a Juki DSC 246 so perhaps a google search for that may show better results in your country.

How does this cowboy compare to say a Juki ls 1341 or similar machine ? Does it do just as good a job ?
@delafaux8976
@delafaux8976 8 месяцев назад
This machine is pretty much a copy of the Juki DSL 246. The smaller end cap allows for tighter gusset work and similar stuff. The 1341 is more of a high production machine having self oiling and a few other great features as well. It really depends on the type of work you want to do.

First I would try any of the Cowboy dealers there and ask if they would order it in and failing that contact Techsew and have a look at the 2600 model

Is this machine reversible? I’m looking at the outlaw as well
@wildharry3203
@wildharry3203 Год назад
Yes it does have reverse. The lever on the right you push down to do reverse. For some jobs I prefer to go back by hand as that allows me to get the needle beside the thread in the hole and avoid the possibility of spearing through the thread. I do crocodile products mostly and the quality has to be extra perfect.

How does this machine compare to the Cowboy 227. I can’t find anything on the 246
@wildharry3203
@wildharry3203 2 года назад
The Cowboy CB246 is just new to the range here in OZ at present but it is based on the Juki DSC-246 if that helps. The CB 227 and the CB246 both handle the same thickness but the bobbin size on the CB227 is the smaller one shown in the above video. It may be able to handle the thicker thread better but I am doing some tests at the moment to be more certain. The CB 227 has a wider end on it than the CB246 which is not so great for gusset work really. Both machines are priced the same depending on which options are required. Contact me if you want to know more.

Hello Harry. I have a question and I would really appreciate your help because I'm having a hard time finding info on this online. I'm debating on buying an adler 69-373, but I'm wondering if the machine is the right one for me. I want to make bags but possibly wallets aswell, can this machine handle something like a wallet or maybe a 10oz belt? I have no experience with sewing machines, and i only recently started leather working. Thanks!
@delafaux8976
@delafaux8976 6 месяцев назад
Hello @Matthiasschweizer, I used an Adler 69 quite well for many years for the type of work you mention. They are a good robust type of machine but the bobbin is small and the feed dog does not drop down and reciprocate as the CB 246 does. The CB 246 is a copy of a Juki DSC 246 if that helps. The larger boobin a more reliable feed is worth paying at least 50% more in my opinion but if the price is good and you are just starting its still a pretty good start.
