As long as you are not using fixed blade broad heads most bows will shoot really well even if they are out of whack/tune. People have won competitions with really out of tune bows before. They are more forgiving when set up correctly though. The most important part is that it fits you properly. I hope the shop checked that and helped you with it while you were there. It looks like the draw length might be a tad too long for you, but not bad really. I would also suggest if you are new to archery to find a shop that offers lessons or will help you out with some beginner tips. Most good shops will offer this when you buy a bow from them. From the looks of it you have had some sort of instruction or someone is helping you though. I still find it odd that you shoot a pistol right handed, a rifle left handed and now you are shooting a bow right handed? Are you right handed but left eye dominant? Usually I see someone shoot one or the other, not both.

I loved hunting with a bow. Game has to be so much closer. Remember, stop *before* you get tired. When you get tired, you pick up bad habits on release, hold etc. End every session with a good shot! Get a range finder and start guessing at ranges, then check them with range finder. Also, I liked a whisker biscuit. Use what works for you. Have fun my friend!!! Stay safe and enjoy!

Protip: It appears you have a death grip with your left hand. Relax that to the point you're almost letting go completely. Use just enough to keep the bow from jumping from your hand at the release. Think just using the index finger and thumb.

Death gripping the bow can cause some torque and isn't the best idea but honestly as long as you do it the same way every time it should work. Archery is about consistency. If you do everything the same way shot after shot the arrows will normally go in the same place. A loose grip is easier to repeat though. When I shoot it looks like I am gripping the bow, but I am not. That is just a comfortable position for my hand to be in. I have tried many diffrent hand positions and grips and some of them feel forced and not right. Nor did they improve my scores any.

That bow will be fine for a longtime. I would upgrade your accessories as you can afford them. If you really want to slow the movement of your bow down your bow needs weight. Not just a couple ounces but closer to a pond. And the only way to really and weight is by the stabilizer. The longer the stabilizer the less weight you need. But I wouldn't go over 12 inches.I would go to your archery store ask them if you can try out a 12 inch hunting stabilizer. I would try out some stuff by Bee Stinger. I have the 12 inch Bee Stinger microhex on one bow. And the Bee Stinger 12 inch Pro Hunter Max on another. On both those stabilizers you can and more weight to them. It will definitely make your bow more steady. I know someone will say in the comments that's to long and heavy. No it's not I have been using that set up for hunting and 3d archery for over 20 years. It works.

Get set in your stance before you draw the bow back. You are moving around way too much. Also, turn the weight down at least 5#, you are struggling too much to pull it back. And you are punching the trigger! Go watch some you tube videos from John Dudley on form, draw, anchor, etc.

Be a bit smoother on that trigger. Your form looks good. Other than that bro it’s just lots of practice. I will say this...if you decide later to hunt deer with that bow...it is absolutely rewarding!! Also if the body of the arrow is damaged near the tip...stop using that arrow. Archery is as if not more addictive than guns. That bow will be perfectly fine for years to come. No need to spend more till you’ve mastered the basics. One last tip...don’t draw that bow without an arrow. If you accidentally dry fire it (without an arrow is the definition of that) you can severely damage your bow. Have fun👊🏽

@therichie9916
@therichie9916 4 года назад
One more tip...plan your practice sessions. If you shoot too much and start getting fatigued you will get diminishing returns. Just like guns, getting correct practice leads to better skill. I once worked up to 150 shots a day without fatigue but it took me two years. Don’t rush it. I recommend 20-30 shots a day while concentrating on perfecting the basics for the first several weeks. As you develop those muscle groups and muscle memory you can increase the poundage but stick with the same 20-30 shots a day. Once that becomes easy and you’ve reached the poundage goal then start increasing your shots per day by 10 until that becomes easy. Trust me if you stick to this your skill level will become phenomenal. It takes patience but it is very worth it when a walnut size target at 20 yards is no challenge. Then you’ll find longer ranges more possible. Once you’ve mastered 20 yards work on 30. Once your shooting 2-3” groups minimum at thirty move to 40 yards. Then practice more often than not at the longer range. Then 20-30 will be super easy. I wish you blessings in this endeavor.

One thing to help with movement when drawing back for longer periods of time, ive been taught to float the pin over your target, then release when your pin is over your sight. You dont have to make massive movements, small figure 8s work fine. Trying to hold the bow still sometimes makes things worse

If you like the feeling of that thumb release then go to the bow store and check out some proper thumb releases. That thumb release it a pretty big piece of crap not to be mean just being honest. When you get your pin on the spot your aiming at don't get in a hurry and just let the arrow fly. Let that pin float on the spot for just a few seconds.You got to give the pin some time to settle down. it's going to move around a little that's normal. Keep all your focus on the very center of spot your aiming at till the arrow hit the target. And allow your self to let the bow down if you dont feel comfortable with the shot. Take a second and start over. You should have a shot sequence it should be the same every time. From your stance. how you load the arrow .how you grip the bow. And so on. Dont allow your self to make a poor shot do to poor technique. If you want to be be able to shot well its alot of work. But my best advice would be dont listen to us in the comments. Go to your archery shop that has lanes and archery leagues and learn from them guys. They have a wealth of knowledge. And most of them will be more than happy to help you with everything you need. Be careful it's a heel of a sport and you just may find it to be more fun than things that go boom I know I have for the 20 plus years.

Hi there, I’m a bow hunter and have been for years. Your form looks pretty good,it’s about finding a fine and consistent anchor point that fits you, my anchor point will not be right for you and may not be right for the next person it’s a unique thing, Don’t grip for your bow or release Hand as this will cause talking of the bow and will throw your shot off just relax your body and ease into the shot, when aiming you want to raise/lower the bow to get your pin on target use your release hand to pull or let forwards and left to right is in your bow hand. Look up cam Haynes, he’s my go to guy if I ever get stuck with something
@thatoneguy454c

I personally prefer the thumb release. I used 14 years when I was doing both compound and semi traditional competitions. I would put the top knuckle of my thumb in the corner of my mouth, and then when I would release the string I would allow my hand to pull back past my ear. There are so many different methods but you are correct the important part is being consistent every time you draw your bow and every time you release.

The first thing you should know. Is how to set your sight. Don't worry about your hand just yet. How to set your sight. If you impact high on the target. Move your sight higher. If you impact low. Move your sight lower. Impact right, - move it right. Left Move it left. Do that until you are hitting the bulls eye. If you are left eye dominant you need a lefthand bow. You can shoot a righthand bow. But your dominant eye will take over the aim, and you will get inconsistent impacts on your bulls eye. So the more you shoot with your dominant, the more accurate you will be. I have won a few tournaments. I have been shooting a bow for 45 years. I am a member of Pope and Young Club. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. You have a great bow. It doesn't have to cost a million dollars to be great bow yours will do what those higher priced will do. Don't believe the hype.

I was looking to get back into archery and was doing research for a set up that would not break the bank. Will check this bow out. Just a thought, when you hold the bow your left hand can be slightly open after you draw (while aiming). My instructor told me to think of it like holding an egg. That hook that goes over your wrist stops it from falling to the ground and it allows the arrow to release a little better :).

Hey man #1 if u are going to shoot with your non dominant eye u prob want to either put a patch over your left eye or use some glasses and put a piece of tape on the left eye. Also u need to make sure u pull your arm straight back and use those scapular muscles and keep your elbow in-line on your shot. Also follow through so stay in your stance and hold until your arrow hits the target. As far as anchor i always tell people u do what makes u feel comfortable not everybody feels comfortable with doing the same anchor. Just make sure u do the same thing every time and anchor the same way. Those are my two cents i don’t anchor my tip of my nose to the string and i don’t use a kisser i just anchor to my jaw the same and i made my own “kisser” out of serving material and i like that better. The kisser would hurt my mouth and cut me so i quit using those. Also u might try and keep a slight bend in your arrow and with the bow holding hand keep your fingers more open and just allow the bow to sit in the crease or palm of your hand. U want to make sure to touch the handle with as little of your and as u can and still have control. If u cannot do that then try holding the bow where your finger tips just barely rest on the front of the handle. Both of these ways keep your hand from gripping and torquing the bow at the shot. Torquing will kill your consistency as quickly as anything. Good luck man! Nothing is better than putting an arrow thru a big buck!! Oh and stop shooting that bad arrow!! If it is carbon it make break and throw shards into your face or eyes or other parts of your body! And also when u go hunting use a heavy 500 grain arrow and a good fixed blade cut on contact head(preferably a single bevel but that is another topic) so that way u get pass throughs on all your animals!

If you can afford it and you would like to try a good thumb release look at the carter wise choice that's what I use and have loved it...tips for you it looks like you are gripping the bow when you are shooting try not griping the handle on the bow. Also I dont know I cant see your stance and how your feet and lower body are positioned but make sure your back foot is slightly forward. If you only have 3 arrows I would recommend getting a handful more when I have got arrows done for hunting I always get a dozen and a half and go through them and find the 6 best make those your hunting arrows and the other dozen your practice arrows so your hunting arrows dont get ruined practicing, and if you want to start hunting with a bow for broad heads I would recommend a fixed blade broad head... personaly I use muzzy's 3 blade 100gr fixed braod head and had great success with it.

Great video. My only suggestion is loosen your grip on the bow. Keep it loose in your hand. Also, that arrow that went through your fence. Check and recheck for knicks, dents, ect. Bend it, rotated, then bend again. If it sounds broken.... THROW IT AWAY. Lighter draw weight bows in not a big deal but if you're shooting a heavy draw weight, you do NOT want that arrow blowing up on you.

Knuckle under jaw, nose to string, trigger hand relaxed, bow hand relaxed, don’t move bow until you here the thump of the target. Practice practice. Have fun. 👍🏼

Im a target shooter from the UK. Both bows and guns. Regarding your form... Not bad for a beginner, but looks like you are gripping your bow a bit too much. relax your fingers. The draw force of your bow should be on the line where your thumb meets you hand. I think its the life line? Let the wrist sling catch your bow for you. Again , dont grip. Gripping will have a negative effect on your accuracy. More you shoot the better you'll get. That thumb release is indeed the cheap nasty variety. I'd stay with the wrist release out of the two you have ... TruBall make a nice, affordable but good line of thumb releases. Im right handed and left eye dominant... I close my left eye too Dont shoot the damaged arrow. Its broken. Its done. With a little effort you can turn it into a cool looking pen :-)

Love shooting guns and bows!!! I also don't hunt, but rest of my family does and I eat what they kill. Lol. I dropped my poundage to 45# so can shoot more arrows and not get tired. Trying to get ready for Ultimate Archery Challenge, a 3D range they set up in various parts of the country where you shoot 3D targets hiking a trail. Check it out on youtube. The courses are set up for all different levels of ability and not a competition. Looks like fun. You have good form already. Have fun and I enjoy your videos.

had to hit the "pause" button at 0:49 so i could give a "thumbs UP" just for the intro and post my comment that i really appreciated hearing your position on hunting and giving such a clear & non-judgmental justification for why people hunt (which is unusual these days). maybe i'm a little hypocritical here commenting on the side of the hunters as i am actually in your camp, never hunted, and at this point, don't intend to, but am always open-minded about it for the future. ... now, on to watch the rest of the video.
