I went with the RSIII 2306 1800kv motors for a medium range Chimera5 build that is efficient enough for long flights yet capable of carrying heavy li-ion packs and a GoPro Bones. The technical information in your video was super valuable in making my decision. Thanks a lot!

Again a wonderful review! Chris Rosser motor testing will soon be the gold standard 😉. I really hope manufacturers realize how good your testing is and that they send you free motors for review . And I see you incorporated my feedback and now explain the axes! 🙂

Great review as always! A next test idea could be on manufacturing, that is, test a bunch of supposedly-identical motors (around 10?) and check the result dispersion. Same could be said for props, particularly vibration and noise

Top notch videos. Any chance in the near future you might look at some motors tailored to Planes? 2212 to 2220s type of thing? Larger 28xx type of thing would be awesome too. Thanks!

@Mr. Rosser - totally love your videos and scientific testing. This is very informative Time 0 data to help pilots make the best choice for their drone builds. However, one aspect of the motors that your testing does not cover is durability and longevity. Would it be possible to run some shaft lateral loading to failure or pendulum impact testing to characterize the strength differences between these motors? Another good test might be high-RPM stress test

Interesting tests, easy to understand explanation. Especially liked the thermal camera. I'd be interested in comparison tests to the Xing E motors. I have a set. They look like single strand to me, they perform very well. And their price is very reasonable. 🤓

XING-Es are a great value motor. Very hard to get anything better for the price. There are better performers but of course they cost a bit more!

Really good explanation on how these things tick brother! I don't fly quads, but model aircraft. So the use profile is generally more "cruising", except when I started looking at this particular motor. In this case, I'm considering powering a foamy jet during Combat at Flitefest. So... yah, pretty much 90-100% throttle for the whole thing 😂

thanks for the review ! the bell looks identical to the eco II... any idea where they got this impressive weight reduction ? does having 3 to 4 grams less on each arm this far from the center of gravity significantly affect the quad behavior ?
@Chillin-fpv
@Chillin-fpv 9 месяцев назад
So I just finished my second quad. I flew about 5 packs before my quad fell out of the sky. 1 motor is basically seazed up and another one has some resistance but not as bad. I'm running a speedybee f405 v3 on 6s with emax RSll 2306 1600kv. the coils look fine but the magnets look brunt. What causes the magnets to turn black? And why did this happen?
@marc_frank
@marc_frank 9 месяцев назад
one advantage of these is that the Eco II 's are ultra cheap, now I've seen them for 11 bucks

i trust emax to make motors. I LOVED the eco-lites. 14$ a motor, for PHENOMENAL performance, and if one goes bad i have plenty to spare! These literally allowed me to get into FPV. If i was buying 28$ motors a pop i wouldn't be where i was today. yeah 1/6 of the eco would be bad/smoke. But these motors are built for performance/cost. If 1/6 goes bad... well i still saved money even in that case! I also found EMAX to make supremely smooth motors. I fly t-motor exclusively now, but i would say they are the same level of performance but not as high quality (durability ETC)

When checking for KV, I noticed you had a prop on it, that can affect KV. Have you tried with and without prop? Thanks for sharing.
@ChrisRosser
@ChrisRosser 8 месяцев назад
My KV tests are done without a prop (or a prop nut) at 10V full throttle. Sorry if the testing b-roll isn't correct!

Chris. Do you know what type of Aluminum they used on the bell? I noticed Emax doesn't publish it. Also, I noticed from their video today, they said the shaft diameter is 4mm. Does that mean, we can't use our 5 inch props since it will be loose?
@ChrisRosser
@ChrisRosser 8 месяцев назад
4mm is the internal shaft diameter. They fit a standard 5" prop.

i loved my rsii2306, but i will not buy these do to multistrand windings, i'd opt for the new velox, the unibell doesn't bother me, any hard hit i had on bell would have took out either as long as heat doesn't separate it, very disappointing emax!

I've heard you soeak well of emax in the past. Fine, they have good 3.5" props. Motors are shit, i don't care how efficient they are. Yeah, i found for myself that they use multi strand wiring. Never again, they are shit. Now that I've had a taste of that shit I will never eat emax again. Forget it.

Wow... just wow.. chris rosser.. titling THERMAL as IR.... come on man... IR is invisible light usually used to assist NV. THERMAL is heat.. come on im sick of thermal being called IR hollywood been doin it since the 80's.. i expected more from you chris. I cant believe i bought your frames!
@ChrisRosser
@ChrisRosser 9 месяцев назад
Thermal cameras use infrared light emitted by the object to measure it's temperature. Warm objects emit infrared light in the same way that very hot objects like the sun emit visible light. Thermal imaging and infrared cameras are both the same technology just given a different name. From Wikipedia: Infrared thermography (IRT), thermal video and/or thermal imaging, is a process where a thermal camera captures and creates an image of an object by using infrared radiation emitted from the object

good for nothing. Buy something else. Always get single strand winding for durability if nothing else.
