Absolutely loving all these suggestions. Been using the ZVe10 setup with this monitor and it’s been so easy and the footage is just great. You’re the man I’m the fan.
Thanks for these videos, I like how your reviews are focused so much on advice for the ZV-E10 because that's the camera I ended up getting for the studio. It's great to see what works well for it so I don't waste money on the wrong gear. I almost accidentally bought a noisy monitor with fan and humming noises and hopefully this one will save me the process of having to resell stuff. I made that mistake with lighting recently, I didn't realize the light had a fan inside of it.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Nice, I watched a review on the UL150, but didn't realize the UL60 existed, which is more in my price range. I'll check it out.
This looks awesome and inexpensive. I may consider one in the future if my channel ever gets off the ground. Right now I use an old Surface Pro 3 tablet with the Sony app, not the same but works fine ($40 for the tablet and dock) for in studio (haven't ventured outside with my ZV-E10 yet)
Hey Mark, Thanks for another great video. I bought my ZV-E10 about 3 weeks ago and love it! I just bought a (large-ish) teleprompter and now suddenly need a field monitor. Will this show all the info on the monitor that I LOVE so much, like the F-Stop, Shutter Speed, battery, etc, but especially the Red Box while recording? (That red box has already saved me a ton of time when I forget to press record, (ugh!). If it matters, I record to the Card, not HDMI out to OBS. Thanks in advance, from a subscriber for life!
Hey Mark. Thanks for all your hard work that you put into the videos. I almost watched every video about the ZVE10 from your channel and I am thinking about getting one (if avaible grrr) But the more videos I watch, the more likely I also want the other cameras that you are talking about :) Which one would you recommend for someone, who never owned a camera and whose use case would most likely be for holiday footage (maybe also vlogging for youtube), nice holiday landscape/nature and "model-posing" photos of the girlfriend/wife and probably for a twitch streaming setup. Due to your videos I am currently obsessed with the ZVE10, but I am also the kind of person who tends to go with the best possibility straight away, which would probably be a full frame camera. Maybe some recommendations about the above mentioned use case? ZV1, ZVE10, GH5, GH5ii, GH6, A7iv? But maybe as a beginner I couldnt use a full frame camera the proper way which it should be used for and thatfor it would probably be a waste of money as someone can also make excellent photos with an asp-c sensor camera plus a good lense (as you showed in your comparison videos). Maybe I already gave the answer to my question by myself but I would be happy to hear your thoughts anyway. One thing I know for sure is that I will get ur highly beloved Sigma lenses trio. Which one would u start with first? The 16, 30 or 56mm f1.4? It doesnt matter if you answer or not, I will keep watching your videos and try to suppport your channel by liking your videos, sharing your videos and using affiliate links. Btw as you mentioned in a previous video that you have many german speaking viewers, I would suggest you to use affiliate links which can also be used for european countries. Greetings from Austria.
If I were you, I would look at the A7C or A7iv. If you have the budget, the A7iv, but the A7C will be great for everything you described too. The Sigma lenses will still work for the full frame for video, but for photos, you’ll go down to 10 megapixels on the A7C and 15 on the A7iv. Since it’s your first camera, I would buy the A7C body and either the Tamron 28-75 2.8 geni.us/VZiMh or Sigma 28-70 f2.8 geni.us/GAmX - whichever you find cheaper. That would be a great setup that can tackle almost any situation. The A7iv with one of those lenses would be even better.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis bought the A7iv today.. cant wait to use all ur content on my own now and to see more content about the a7iv on ur channel :)
Thanks for making this video. I have a Sony ZV-E10 and I followed most if your recommendations for the rig setup. I purchased the Portkeys PT5 and was looking for videos showing both setups. Thanks. I love your videos and I also miss the beer glass. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Keep them coming
Awesome and very usefull video, as always Mark :) Btw, I currently own a zvE10 and the PT5 monitor, but was wondering if you'd have any recommandation for a monitor that would also allow me to controle the focus point through the touch screen of this monitor. I've heard that PortKey BM5 was supposed to allow that, but I'm not sure if this will work for the zve10 or not. Did you had the occasion to test this monitor ?
Another viral video, I'm sure. I'm now convinced that this is how Mark shaves and brushes his teeth. Who needs a mirror when you can administer your personal hygiene with Paul Leamy LUTS!? Okay, buh-bye!
Great video as always. I just ordered the Portkeys PT5ii monitor for my ZV E10 after watching your video, got it unboxed on on my camera, and realized I didn't order the batteries to go with it. Could you post your affiliate link for the batteries and charger so I can make sure you get a cut of the batteries too. Thanks!
I bought the Portkeys Pt5 and for some reason I keep getting a weird noise only when the monitor is connected to my zv-r10 camera. I have no idea why :/ I power it via usb but it doesn't seem to be the reason since if i remove the hdmi connection and just leave the camera powered, there is no background noise. The moment i reconnect the camera via hdmi i get the noise again. It's like a low humming sound, but very noticeable. I am using an external XLR mic connected to a console and set the zv-e10 gain level to 1. Everything works fine till i connect the portkeys monitor, when I get this noise again. anyone facing sth like this ?
I love all your videos ❤❤❤ I jist want to know one thing mark is that whether I can use the touch focus function of zv e10 using this monitor, if yes then I will go for a6400
Great video, I'm willing to buy this monitor but I've heard that I won't be able to show 1080 120fps recording, the screen go black. Is that true? I use 120fps a lot and I want a bigger screen just to show what I'm recording, but it looks like I'll need an Atmos, is that right?
Awesome review. I’d looked at some of your other monitor reviews, but the price point of this made my decide to get one. Just been trying it, and it looks amazing. Did you find a way round the fact that Sony ZVE10 doesn’t seem to allow you to see the info displayed on monitor if you’re shooting in 4k?
Mark would you be willing to help? I got the ZV-E10 and it's driving me nuts that when I connect my external monitor (Feelworld) the camera screen goes black with info about F, ISO etc on top... but looking at your video you get the actual screen in both! Is there a setting to tweak this? Thanks a lot
I figured out what is going on just not sure if it’s a bug or a camera limitation. I’m in Spain so I use PAL, if I set the camera to 4K 25p it doesn’t work (camera screen goes black + external display works). If I set it to NTSC and record in 4K 24p then IT WORKS, just like in your video. If I increase frame rate even in NTSC it stops working
it only happens on the 30p - if you switch to 24 or 25 - the eye autofocus stays. In 30p the autofocus still works - but you lose the face and eye - so if you want to stay in 30, you can always setup your shot and then power-off the monitor (that's what I do)
Thanks for the video! i do have a question, does the monitor have to sit on top of the camera or can someone hold it while someone records? thank you!!!
Mark i bought the portakeys PT6 But when i turn it on with the zv e10 the little screen goes off and when i want to focus something i can not touch to focus on the monitor and on the cameras screen and also the monitor screen doesn't display full. Can you please help me, Thank you.
So I got a monitor and changed the proper settings but I can’t see the image on both the lcd and monitor when I hit record. I only see it on the monitor. How do I get it to show on both and record
hello, the pt5 2 dosen´t show the menue or the FN menue from my Sony ZV-E10, if I press one of these buttons there is only shown a Part of the Menue in a very large form (ex. 3 Buttons from the FN menue), you know the reason for that problem? Setting´s in the Sony?
I got a Desview t3 teleprompter for my zv-e10 but now I can't see the flip out screen. Do you think the PT6 worth the extra cost over the PT5ii (for a beginner)? btw I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when you said... "L and R, who knows what that means..." 😂
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks, this is great! Unfortunately my a6400 loses face detection even in 4k24 as soon as HDMI monitor is connected. Maybe it's time to buy a new camera, lol.
Hey Mark excellent video. I'm having trouble getting my built in screen showing up when I hook the monitor up. I get the actual menu on the PT5 but I just want the video and I want to use my camera menu on the camera screen. I hope I'm making sense.
yes, anamorphic image de-squeeze with all the standard ratios (1.33x,1.42x, 1.5x, 1.6x,1.66x,1.85x,2.0x,2.35x) and the possibility to enter a custom aspect ratio from 0.25 to 4.0x.
Do you know if you can power this monitor with the USB A? I know you mentioned it but when I try it doesn’t work. Do you know if you need a usb a to usb a in order for it to work? Hoping to use one npf to power both my camera and this monitor!
great video! i am goint to buy something like this!! and this is a great review. !! I have the nikon D7500 and it does not have a front facing screen! so this is a great option! so under $200 usd with tax and baterries...
Hello Mr Mark! Been a subscriber before you hit 10K. Congratulations BTW. Do you think you could make a video about whether the ZV-e10 is worth paying a $1000 bucks over. Arthur R released a video about how insane prices have reached for the "Dougy". But he doesn't own that camera. You do! Any insight or a video about whether paying $1000 over retail for the ZV-e10 is smart or worth it. Thanks Mark!
Definitely do not pay over the sticker price of $699. The best thing about the ZV-E10 is it's value. The chip shortage will eventually be over and people will be able to buy this camera. If you are willing to pay over $1000 US for the camera - you'd be better off jumping into the A7C and going full frame in my opinion.
Great video Mark! Do you post your comedy documentaries or standup on youtube? You make some of the most entertaining vids, I'd like to see some of your standup if it's available.
How do I see what I’m recording in 4K ? I can’t see anything in the screen once I hit record. I have no problem recording and seeing the screen in HD. Am I doing something wrong ?
What camera are you using? If you’re referring to the lcd on the camera of the zv-e10, the cameras screen will go black in the PAL settings (25p). With ntsc at 24p the camera lcd will stay, but it will go off at 30p
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I am using the camera you mentioned the Sony. So my problem is plugging in to the monitor in HD it views as I would on the LCD menu, capability to record and all. If I switch the format the 4K I can only view what I’m viewing on the lens , nothing else. If I hit record in 4K 24p and other options I can’t see what I’m recording, nor view the menu
I bought a sony zve10 after watching your recommendation. Absolutely great camera and every time I need an accessory I come across your video and I love that
I bought this monitor after seeing your review. I’ve had issues with the monitor not working when I hit record on my Sony zv1. The minute I turn it off the record on the camera, I get a picture on the monitor. I haven’t found a fix yet for the issue.
Any chance you’d know why all of a sudden it would stop syncing with my camera? I took it off the gimbal to shoot outside shots then put it back on and hooked it up and now it’s just going back to port keys Home Screen while hooked up to the camera
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I reset it when it didn’t sync, but I am beginning to think it’s a hdmi issue like maybe it burnt out. As you know it only comes with one hdmi to micro hdmi but the normal hdmi to hdmi cord works syncing the monitor to the laptop so I will pick up a new one tomorrow. Hopefully that’s the issue. Thanks for the quick response!
MAN! I wish I saw this before I asked my wife for an OSEE T5 for Christmas! Oh well...as always, a great video, and that's a nice monitor for lil Dougie... Happy Holidays Mark!
Oh no!! Write Portkeys - they are a good company and all of my PortKeys monitors are going strong. Also - make sure there's no problem elsewhere like the HDMI cable, battery or camera
I just bought a PT5 for my M50. I have a problem. When I connect the PT5, my M50 monitor turns off and I lose its touch screen functions for auto focus and for browsing and watching recorded videos. How to set both screens to work simultaneously?
Unfortunately the M50 LCD goes black when connected through HDMI. This happens for everything connected to the M50. So there is no way to use both screens.
Hello my brother , good video, I ask you, do you think you can make a video where you explain how to connect the Sony ZVE10 with the Atomos Ninja V , I'm new to this and it's a long time but I can't make it work, thanks in advance
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for your prompt reply yes i put a micro hdmi to full hdmi adapter but the screen looks stretched i really played with the whole menu and i found no problem i know the sony zv 10 has very few features for this great monitor but i bought it with the idea to have a good quality monitor because I plan to buy soon the sony FX3 in fact all the lenses that I am buying are sony G and G Master , but this monitor can not be seen correctly , again thank you very much for your prompt response
it is a pity that this product does not incorporate a usb c socket to connect a power bank. doesn't the focus on the eyes disappear on the sony zve10 when you plug in an external monitor?
Mark, thanks again for the video! I wish I would have held off until this video came out! A couple weeks ago I picked up the FEELWORLD LUT5 5.5 Inch 3000nits Ultra Bright DSLR Camera Field Monitor for my ZV-E10. Are you familiar with it? Maybe I'll pick up one of the Portkeys for travel and leave my feelworld setup in the studio.
sorry about your health problem thankyou for the great videos, am buying a zv e10 and bunch of accessories inc this screen thanks to you:) can't wait to shoot my 1st horror movie on it> again thanks for all of your help:)
Finally a monitor I can afford! On another note, I've almost finished all episodes of your podcast, and now there's nothing left to listen to :D Any plans to make new episodes? Maybe something about RU-vid and camera gear? :) P.S. Your Dusty Bones album is a good listen too!
Hi! When I use the Portkey Pt5 ii (just as an external monitor) and hit record on my Sony zv-e10, the Pt5 goes blank. This I can only change, when I use „Rocord to Hdmi only“ in the camera settings. But that isn’t a solution for me, hence the Pt5 has no recording function and the internal sd card is the only way I can record my videos.. Any help to fix this? Thanks, Ferdinand
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the reply - I just found out, it has to do with proxy recording. If proxy recording is turned on, the screen will go blank when you hit the record button.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis By the way.. you’re doing great work! I really like your stile of videos and have watched all your content, which has to do with the zv-e10 and I geared up accordingly to all of your recommendations!
I would like to express me DEEPEST appreciation to both of you. Mark for being kind to ask and Ferdinand for the reply. I had this problem for hours ! Many videos just plug in the monitor and without hesitation it works. I was ready to give up and send it back. Thank you both 🙏🏽
hi, i have a question im using a Lumix G7 with this Portkeys PT5 II Monitor, when i record video im getting a blue screen and it says "now recording video" im wondering if you know how to fix this issue, thank you
Unfortunately, the G7 will not let you view a monitor though HDMI when recording. It is just a limitation of the camera. I have a G7 as well. It's annoying for sure. II usually use the panasonic app on my phone with the G7
monitor newbie question: i use the ZV-E10 to livestream, but because we’re coming out HDMI directly to broadcast, we’ve been using picture profiles instead of recording in log for later post editing. will this monitor let us output to its HDMI using a loaded LUT, allowing us to simultaneously record S-LOG3 to the internal ZV-E10 memory card? thanks so much okay buh bye!
I’ll have to check it out - I was just about to write that the pt5ii is pass through so it won’t embed your lut - but it’s interesting that the pt6 does it.
I'm a newbie with a lil Doug as well! i find it really frustrating that what i see on the lcd of the zv-e10 does not represent what it actually shoots and this video convinced me to purchase one of these bad boys.
So how portkeys compare to the Neewer F100 you had on another video? I use some custom picture profiles, but the ZVe10 screen just drives me nuts! I can’t rely on it for videos 😒
I didn't actually review the Neewer, it was a suggestion for a cheap monitor when rigging out the ZV-E10. It had a 7inch screen and was affordable. But it's missing options like loading LUTS and HDMI out. But if you're not using HDMI out or care about a touch screen or loading custom LUTS - it will work fine. The problem with both the PT5 and Neewer is that they are not that bright. So if you are planning to shoot outdoors a lot, maybe look something with a brightness of 1000 nits or more. These will be a little more expensive
You will always want to use the base ISO setting you can to get clean images (this is the lowest ISO and with HLG3 that is 125. The base ISO for SLOG2 is 500 and the Base ISO for standard profile is 100). The native ISO is actually anywhere from 100-32000 on the ZV-E10 (it's an ISO that doesn't require interpolation in processing). So, in a nut-shell - set the camera to the lowest ISO you can for best results. If you have a camera with a dual gain ISO (like some cinema cameras) that is a different story.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks so much for this explanation Mark! I use the ZV-1 with a custom Cine2 picture profile I made. I usually shoot at 1000 ISO, but you think it would be better to use 125? Thanks again! - Ryan
I do plan to do one - mostly these days I use it as an exposure tool unless I had my white balance wrong - since I use the leeminglut, as long as I white balance the colors are usually good. But here is an excellent video on it (I bought mine after I saw it) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i8DuPM-CtCk.html
I just bought the PT5 (solely based on your review) to use with my ZV E10. Is there a setting to leave the Sony’s screen on when the monitor is also on? My Sony screen goes out, causing me to lose the tap autofocus feature. Thanks!!
what are your settings? in movie mode you won’t lose your screen in 4K at all. you also will keep eye autofocus in 24 and 25p. in 30fps you will lose face and eye detect (but it still has autofocus) That happens when you connect anything thorough hdmi at 30fps. in 1080 - your screen will go black but you will keep eye detect in 24 or 25fps. in 30 or 60 or 120 you will get centre zone autofocus.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Holy cow! You are exactly right. I was on 1080 at 30 fps. Switched to 4K and the problem went away instantly. Thanks SO MUCH for your help and making great videos. The only other issue I’ve noticed (in my 45 mins playing with the PT5) is that the screen gets insanely hot after a short time. Do you think it essentially has a max practical run time before it needs a cool down break?
This video sold me on this product and I purchased the PT5ii. I've been playing with it the past few days and it really changes the way I hold the camera and shoot. It's a good change though and will certainly make seeing my shots much easier...and how can seeing your shots more clearly be a bad thing, especially for the low cost. Great color btw!
I've bought my little doggie after your video review..same thing for my 16mm and 18-50mm lenses...Now I think I'm going with this aswell...QUESTION: in order to plug the monitor, do I have to se the doggie in PC connection ON isn't it? Will I be able to use a remote controller for shooting? I need this tool aswell, any advice? I was thinking to use the mobile app but Iot doesn't allow the simultaneous use of wifi remote plus PC connection... Thanks in advance 🤗
No, the PC remote is a separate function - the Monitor is plugged into the micro HDMI port and the settings about HDMI in your camera are what controls that. The PC remote function can be on or off - the monitor will display the camera image regardless. 👍
Great video Mark! My Atomos Shinobi just stopped working today all of a sudden. It's under warranty so I'm getting it fixed/replaced but in the meantime, I'm thinking of getting the PT5 II as a second monitor and backup. Your affiliate link just a few moments ago takes me to the P6, is this the same/similar?
I believe the PT5 replaced the PT6. depending on the country, it might point you to the closest match. Look for the PT5ii if you can. might as well have the updated version.
I got myself neewer monitor a year ago and I rarely used it as when I attach it to my Canon M50 I loose the touch screen and ability to change settings this way. You can use back buttons but is less convenient if you are in front of the camera. When I make my studio, I might use it more often.
Yes - that is a real pain with the M50. Usually I dial in my settings (f2, 1/50, iso 100) and then plug in the monitor. I adjust the lights to get my zebras right and make sure my framing is good. Then press record. .
I made this review long before the Godox was released. I think the Godox is better overall, but the PT5ii is smaller send cheesier and one of the best budget options out there
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis ahhh ok awesome!! I watched the godox one first and then this one and it was while driving so I didn’t realize I didn’t watch them in order haha
