Best budget torque wrench test and review. HHusky, Harbor Freight and Tekton
This is a review of the Husky torque wrench from Home Depot and a long-term update on my Pittsburgh torque wrench and Tekton torque wrench.
I review all three and test the torque wrench accuracy using a torque adapter.

Great Video ! A friend who operates a calibration lab explained to me that all modern torque wrenches use a special grade of "spring" , that does not take a "set" if left partially in tension. He knew nothing about the Chinese or other "low dollar tools , in terms of accuracy or construction. I am 82, & was taught many decades ago to always rotate the set sleeve back to zero after its use. Dunno. Thanks again for a great video. Cheers! Brian

I bought the Evercraft 1/2" drive version at NAPA (it's very similar to the Pittsburgh version) three years ago. It has been used a lot though not everyday. The only issue I have is the handle will not stay locked on the setting. When I have used the torque wrench to properly torque lug nuts I would notice the handle had moved up a little bit. Then I would loosen the nut at the base of the handle, reset the setting and tighten the nut again. I don't know what kind of issues this causes to the internals and I have never heard anyone discuss having the same issue. If the Evercraft is wearing out I may give the Husky some consideration. I have an Evercraft 1/4" in-lb torque wrench that hasn't caused me any issues at all.

I have all 3 sizes of Harbor Freight torque wrenches that I bought on sale for $9.99 each. I tested them with my digital adapter and they were within a couple of foot lbs. That's great for what I want to use them for. the fact that the Husky goes up to 250 ft. lbs. is a good selling point.

Good comparison , thanks for the info. I found a (looks to be brand new, still has the 'sticker on the side that recommends storing it at the lowest setting) CDI torque wrench on the side of the street up against the curb ( it is at an intersection that has a little bump in the road) any way stuff is always bouncing off trucks as they go too fast through the intersection. Back to my 'find' , it is a 250 ft LB wrench and I checked the calibration, it checks out good even after taking what must have been a pretty good drop off a truck. There are no scratches or scuffs on the wrench. "score one for me ! The last thing I found there was a spool of 16 GA wire. Love that intersection.

I've bought a number of torque wrenches over the years, and my first consideration now is to make sure that it can be recalibrated after I have used it enough to question it's accuracy. I'm an old school shade tree mechanic. I check them regularly and if one is out of spec I recalibrate it. An inexpensive torque wrench is better than none at all. Admittedly, the most common use I have now is to make sure that the lug nuts on my wife and my cars wheels are securely fastened after the tires are rotated after the Quick-lube does it's $25 special.

Im just wondering. In what way did the TEKTON not hold up. ?? It is 4 yrs old. I would expect some slight inaccuracy after some amount of time. It was obviously your preferred torque wrench and was used more than the other. The torque wrench is supposed to be recalibrated every so often. And the Precision Tq.Wr. theyve since released are much nicer and far more accurate. It seems to be its held up just fine. It only needs to be recalibrated. Make sure you exercise your Tq.Wr. before using it.

Just an FYI .... one of the other tuber video’s stated . When the professional calibration companies do a calibration . They Exercise the torque wrench before any calibration is done . Which entails setting it to a middle torque per the amount of torque the wrench is specified . Then pulling & pushing to the specified torque set . Approximately five times in each direction . Not sure if you did that or not . Let us know your results if that procedure wasn’t applied . ......... Curious ........

Im pretty sure its foot - pounds not pound foots, no offense to anyone but its a measurement of how many lbs at 1 foot from the nut or bolt or whatever. Not a measurement of how many feet at 1 lb because if you need to put 200 feet of pipe (or torque wrench) how could you accurately put 1 lb on without going to say 210? Plus ive never seen a breaker bar or ratchet longer than 4 feet let alone a torque wrench.

Not a fan of HF torque wrench the markings are hard to see. Black markings on the Tekton is better.

Maybe I missed it but, make sure you note where they are made. Anything Chinese should come last. Tekton is made in Taiwan, a huge improvement over the Harbor Freight one that is made in China. Taiwan being an ally of ours and sworn enemy of China.

He doesn’t know the US Navy tries to frequently sail the Formosa Straight to signal to China that we will defend Taiwan.

For beinf such sworn enemies we're also one of their biggest trading partners. Makes ya think maybe some of that is just political you know what swinging because politicians rely on drumming on about some Big Bad Evil that only they can stop! Just to not stop it.
