I do appreciate your videos, but have to correct you on the statement that stove cannot accommodate smaller size pots. You can flip the 3 pot holders inwards and they will be able to support cup sized containers. Look forward to enjoy more of your material 👍

Cut your twigs about 3” long and stack them vertical on end packed close together. Light it from the top down, burns about 30-40 minutes without adding fuel. Great stove! Thanks👍

I have one, you can fold the legs in and use smaller pots/cups on it. Pro tip: if you get the MSR Alpine stowaway pot (the 775ml version, also pretty cheap)... this thing collapses down and fits INSIDE of it perfectly (with even a little room for a little bandanda to keep the rattle down). You can still snap the lid on the pot, and it still fits in the little mesh bag that this one comes with. Makes for a great use of space in a bag. My bugout backpack has that setup sitting in it. Takes up little space and doesn't weigh much.

Actually, there is no Bush Buddy / Solo Stove controversy. It is very blatant and a fact that Solo ripped off the design and thus morally reprehensive. It is important to note that Fritz (Canadian) didn't bother with registering the patent because it is expensive to DEFEND a patent and he was a small one-person operation manufacturing the product in his bush home in the Yukon. Ryan from Backpacking Light worked with Fritz and requested lighter versions, which Fritz then made and Ryan promoted on his website. In true "American" fashion, the Solo people stole the design and then to top it off applied for a US patent on their stolen design. May they rot in hell.

The stove comes with a 3" grill/grate that locks into the teeth, so the Stanley Adventure will sit on it now. Pack the stove with wood, and you dont have to re-add wood. It is designed to be packed tight and burn down.

Gasifier or Rocket - After watching several videos I have concluded that the Gasifier is best for those on the move & the Rocket for use in more stationary application. A quality Rocket is in the $150.00 range versus Gasifier for $20. Both burn stealthy clean & will draw minimum attention.

Hi there, and thanks for another good review. FYI I have just purchased a 'Kelly Kettle Hobo Stove' fitment (£8.95), size small, diameter 12cm, and it fits perfectly on top, substituting for the top demonstated in your great video. It has a hole to allow you to feed the fire without removing the pot! Hope this is helpful.
@alanwilliams5836
@alanwilliams5836 6 лет назад
Thanks Ernie. I picked up one recently from a company called Lixada. The model that I got has four pot stand legs instead of three, and they have a crossmember between them, which makes it easier to use with smaller diameter pots as well... like the Stanley Adventure. When collapsed, it fits very snugly (in the included stuff sack) into my Bushpot. Only downside that I really know of so far is like you stated.... hard to feed additional wood inside. The crossmember makes it even harder. Still... for the comparable price of a Solo Stove... I'm happy with what I received.

@paulkysar6207
@paulkysar6207 5 лет назад
I have several wood burning stoves. These little stoves suffer a major flaw that people should know before they buy. The burn pot is small, the fire is never big enough to build a coal base to maintain your heat, if you let the fire start to die down while cooking its a struggle to get the fire heated up again. The idea of re-burning (9:38) is great, but as soon as you set a pot on the stand you smoother the flame and the fire stops re-burning the heated gases and makes a thick smoke. The hottest part of the flame is the top, IMHO the post stand needs to be raised up a few inches higher allowing the fire to breath. Try this by holding the pot above the flame a few inches, the fire will burn a lot cleaner and hotter. Still a great stove if you are willing to deal with the problems.
@don7117
@don7117 4 года назад
Agreed. Some of the other knockoffs have a much higher pot stand, which should solve that problem.

Mine came with a grill grate, so smaller pots and cups will work with it. Alternatives, to midels that didn't have one are a Moka pot adapter plate. A small grill. Either a computer fan grate or a campfire 6" one. My new Moka pot has a wider base so I use my adapter for camp stoves now. It has a handle which adds weght and is not removable unless you remove the rivets. I like the finer mesh of the 6"grill and will be getting one shortly anyway.

I got one a year or so ago. I've only used it once and that was out by fire pit and it worked well. I hike more than anything and I find it too heavy for that. But, in a couple weeks I'm hiking into a national forest just a mile so I think I just might just take it. I like using all my equipment so I might as well take when I can. One thing with this stove that I remember, it was hard to figure out how to pack it pack up again. Not a problem if I would have paid attention when I unpacked it.

1 simply fold the legs in and it fits the small cups 2 if you load it correctly it will burn for about an hour so simply break your twigs to about the length of space from bottom to top in the stove and then put your starter fuel on top and light it and it’ll catch the twigs and if they’re packed in good there’s a video on properly loading themIt’ll burn for about an hour

I have this stove & LOVE it !! Always light mine from top & I always use wood pellets cuz they are cheap, easy, light weight, & most importantly consistent & predictable burn rate... I only use twigs & sticks as a back up, (back up to my Fancy F stove). Thanks for lighting it from only the TOP. (in a few of your other videos you've lighted them/gasification stoves from bottom) BTW I've also made DIY wood gas stove from a walmart SS can cozy & it fits inside my Stanley pot perfectly. I like alcohol stove for a quick cup off coffee but LOVE my wood gas stove for when I do real cooking, my only way to down the temp is to raise the pan off the flame. Bought a non-branded Chinese folding flat hinged wood stove for $19+ change (open 6” wide by 8” height / closed 6” by 8” by 3/4” height almost 14 ounces weight)… it work phenomenally… with 1”to 2” diameter sticks cut to 5” height quartered and some halved, it gets about 35 minutes burn (can burn longer depending on wood types and fully dry to partial and hot coals to finish…. Only ash remains….has side door that opens to add more wood if necessary.. it is awesome for backpacking and takes little room because being flat folding… those solo stoves and others are too bulky, burns too quickly, no grate on top to hold small to large pots. This non-branded stove of mine makes for a safer, efficient and packable

Thanks, Paleo! I ordered mine today. I really liked your balanced review of this product: the advantages AND the disadvantages. For $16-vs-$80 ... I can walk to China Town and buy a grate that will fit the top part so that I can use my Stanley Adventure pot. -- Come to think of it, I wonder why Ohuhu even went with that complicated hinge system as a pot support ?? Seems like it would be a lot cheaper and simpler to just provide a grate and sidestep the whole issue of different size pots ?!!

This is the problem with reviews that are just for the sake of a video review. Better to watch reviews from creators that actually use the item. They will figure out that the top arms can fold inwards to hold smaller cups, or that you can utilise the included grill for this too. They will also research enough to know to fully load the stove to get a decent burn time because if they don't, then no dinner or cuppa!!! 😅

Why don't they make titanium versions of these stoves? A toaks titanium tower stove weighs almost a third of this. It seems like companies trying to command the highest prices would be more concerned about weight for the backpacking market, and a wood stove anything close to a pound (this is 14oz) is unacceptable when my canister stove, small fuel canister, lighter, and heat distribution pot equal a little over 1lb in total.

This is a knock off of the Silverfire Scout stove. The original has a top piece with fixed pot supports. They are more stable and hold smaller diameter pots (they sell replacement parts). Lixada is another brand that has a couple of different style knock off stoves, some like this but with the fixed pot supports, and a stainless steel version of a Toaks titanium stove, among others. This will fit inside the MSR Alpine Stowaway Pot 775 ml size. The pair makes for an excellent set! I have both styles and prefer the one with fixed pot supports.
