I found a Tamronn 17-50mm f/2.8 (non VC) for only 90,-€. Its a little bit worse than this Sigma lense but very similar and smaller and way less heavy. So if you are on a tight budget or cant find the Sigma this would be an alternative. Just keep in my mind the AF motor is loud

Hey Peter.. first of all thanks man for your videos. Your videos help the beginners a lot.. I am thinking to buy my first dslr, Nikon D3500 with this sigma 17-50mm f2.8 lense. What do you suggest? As a beginner instead of using kit lense if I buy this one will it be worth it? Obviously i go with the kit lense i can save some money. I am asking about it as a complete beginner. I've had this lens for a while now (bought a used one) and I'm very disappointed. It's been having focusing issues all the time, and I've never achieved to get a sharp image with this lens, not even through live view. A quick research on the web revealed that I'm not alone, so before you buy a used one, make sure you test it properly: take images at different focal lengths and different apertures and review them on a large screen. There are many users who praise this lens for its great sharpness in the centre, but there are also many users who have these focusing issues that could never be fixed properly. So realy be sure to test a specific lens as much as you can before buying it.

Sadly i feel just like you. I researched this lens for a year before getting it and now that I've had it about two months I've been really disappointed and feel like I've wasted money getting it. I photographed 3 weddings with it and found it very unreliable, thankfully i had the nifty-50 using as well. Many images missed focus, images are soft, rendering looks poor. Im wondering if my copy is just bad compared to the persons who have praised it. I would have been better off saving and perhaps gotten the 17-35, later on. I actually bought it leading up to an indoor sport championship i had to cover and needed a decent wide lens - it didnt impress me there either.

@@odarrien Some pieces simply have this issue, and bringing it in for service might (or might not?) help. You can use the AF Fine Tune feature if your camera body has one. Mine did not, so I was trapped. I moved on to a full frame camera body, so I sold the Sigma lens along with the body as it was.

Hi, I need help. I just bought a 17-50 mm sigma lens for my Nikon 5300 but the autofocus is not detecting it and I don't know what to do. I already updated the camera's firmware to 1.03 and nothing. First time that the camera gives me this problem because I have the 50 mm and the 70-300 and neither of them had given me this problem And the truth is that it is very difficult for me to focus manually. Thank you

Always better to grab lenses if your budget is tight before grabbing a body, you can always use the lenses you have already on a future body once you’ve saved up, having a variety of lenses with a smaller camera is better than having a full frame body with 1 or 2 lenses IMO.

Thanks for sharing! If it's a talking head and you have the budget Sigma 18-35 1.8 ART for the bokeh goodness. If it's outside your budget this is a great upgrade from the kit lens.

sigma's motor sucks more than d5300's af (per se)... 17-55 f2.8 nikkor would be blazing fast. chances are, on pro body like d500 sigma would be able to draw more power and it'd be faster...
