BLACK! Always black. Hand grin the beans when we camp, and an aeropress is it is just me drinking it (I’m strill trying to convert Lea to coffee). A Petromax percolator on the fire if we’re camping with friends. Does coffee from the Wacaco come out strong enough to top up with hot water? The one thing I miss with the aeropress is the crema
@OTWD
@OTWD Год назад
We have lots in common Matt! I am working on Tel to move to black coffee. I hadn't heard of much of Petromax. Wow, German brand since 1910 - interesting! I think the wacaco is strong enough to be diluted, but I'm not sure. I'll do some tests and report back :) Cheers

I love the pure, raw flavours of single origin coffee! Highly recommend trying different beans.

You should try a Contigo mug. You push a button each sip and it seals itself. You can throw it across the campsite and not lose a drop.

Me , l am Piccolo and Espresso type of guy. When l am bush l use a small Moka pot on my Jetboil, or coffee bags if l need a quick caffeine hit . Many years ago , in another life l loved the tubes of coffee and condensed milk. Will have to investigate an Aeropress. Another great topic , thank you.
@OTWD

Will look into the Mokapot further one day, I've always been intrigued by it. I recon the coffee bags are getting better these days - not as bad as the normal Moccona Virus anyway :D I did some time in the army reserves and I have a soft spot for condensed milk in tubes too. Thanks heaps for watching and supporting Dave!!

Happy to have found you Dan... When I go camping I usually just drink tea, though next time I am going to take my stainless Bialetti... and just maybe, take it black..

Hi Dan Great review on those 2 methods, I’ve tried quite a few ways to brew coffee in the bush over the last 10 -15 years. I used a Wacaco for roughly 2-3 years and found the seals just don’t last long enough, the amount of coffee you get from 1 press is not enough so I was needing 2-3 brews to satisfy which is time consuming, add the cleaning time onto that and your taking up to an hour to have your morning brew . I found the aero press and plunger type method very similar to each other , it’s quick easy but the coffee itself is not as strong as I would prefer . I’ve had the best results with the old school aluminium Bialetti coffee pot , it’s quick , easy and robust plus delivers a good hit of coffee with less mucking around. Thanks again for a great vid and pretty thougher guide to coffee in the bush .
@OTWD
@OTWD Год назад
Thanks heaps Luke, great to hear from you!! Seems a few folks are getting behind the Bialetti, something I need to look into. You must like your coffee strong, because I consider the wacaco relatively strong when you fill the coffee holder to the brim. I'd be buzzing with two wacaco hits in one cup. One heaped aeropress scoop is pretty strong too. I like the aeropress taste out of everything I've tried - similar to a french press but with more espresso style taste. Can't get enough. Cheers mate.

@@OTWD The Wacaco makes a good coffee it’s the seals that are the issue.

Hi Dan, you have encouraged me to try black coffee, I have both tea and coffee with milk but I'll give it a go. I have been using the French made Handpresso machine for motorcycle camping for some time now with good results. When I take the 4wd I use my old Italian 'Atomic' machine. Cheers mate.
@OTWD
@OTWD Год назад
Hi David, Thanks for watching mate! Let me know how the black coffee goes. I feel a bit like a missionary trying to convert people :D Good to see you finding room on the bike for a decent coffee maker! Those Atomic machines look like works of art...It's on my list to try one day. Thanks again.

@@OTWD Your not wrong about the Atomic, when it's not being used camping it is a kitchen ornament. I'll let you know how I go with the short black coffee.

Hey Dan I’ve got the original aero press and love it, but it’s a pain to store. Is there a case/bag for it that works?
@OTWD
@OTWD Год назад
Hi Steve, I started with the original aeropress and eventually the rubber plunge seal failed. So I bought two aeropress GOs - one for camping and one for home. I agree the iforiginal aeropress is a pain to store/transport, especially you try to cart around the paper filter holder and the funnel (both aren't really necessary though). Search 'Aeropress Tote Bag', there is a pencil case like case which is cheap- about 10 bucks- I like the online store 'alternative brewing' so recommend look there. If you spend more than $~40 you might as well buy an aeropress GO - which all stores away in the cup. Apart from that - the Blacksmith canvas bag I have is awesome, so you could get something like that and throw all the bits in there. Other bag designs such as toiletry bags by canvas manufacturers (such as Drifta) could work well too. Hope this helps mate. Thanks heaps for watching!!

I’ve never seen the inverted method for the aero press - I’ll give that a go rather than just slowly dripping it out into a cup while it’s steeping
@OTWD
@OTWD Год назад
H BD, thanks heaps for watching and taking the time to comment! I've read different things about it - the main argument against the normal method is that the little trickle is likely more watery/less brewed than the rest of the cup which may detract from the overall taste of the cup. I think anyone would be hard pressed to notice a difference in the final taste. I reckon if you simplify it, you get 'full control' of the brew the inverted way. It just seems logical to me. On the Aeropress world championship website they showcase the recipes - most of winners last 5 years have been doing the inverted brew. Cheers!
@BadlyDubbed
@BadlyDubbed Год назад
@@OTWD I agree, it does seem logical to have it all contained in the brew before the drop into the cup. I have the smaller Yeti cup you mentioned - it operates exactly like the bigger one you’ve got. For my needs it’s great but I wouldn’t be in a rush to get one if you’ve already got the big boy.

Hi Dan i pretty much have the same set up. But I like to grind my own. If you haven't tried it try it. 😏

@OTWD Год назад
Hi Philip! Glad the same gear works for someone else too!! Thanks for watching. I went through a phase of hand grinding with a little Rhinowares manual grinder each morning. It fell away because of the extra time it took. I should revisit it again! Definitely the best tasting when its freshly ground, I remember feeling like the 'ritual' was complete - top to bottom, when you do it starting from beans.
