i traded it for a honda civic but later got stolen.... i will get a prado soon... thinking of going overlanding... i love watching video about Australia... i hope can go there someday....
I’m on my second drifta after the first one split and was replaced by drifta. If this one dies I think I’ll just go the kings one for under a hundred bucks and probably out of the same factory as drifta.
When I pull them out next I'll check ;) I expect not, the snow peak has rounded 'feet' and the drifta has flat 'feet'. The clips may not extend over the rounded 'feet'. Worth checking, hadn't thought of that before!
@@OTWD I know right! We've got a 2 month old and a 2 year old, so a bit behind you guys, no idea how you get everything in! Great vids mate, love the content!
Hi Phil, haven't heard of these, so I did a quick google. Thanks for sharing. I do like the slot together flat pack style. At 5mm thick I reckon it could be quite heavy. I'll add it to my list of camping gear to try one day some where some how. I had a look at your channels I reckon you should combine into one, get rid of the AI elements, and start presenting openly about the stuff you are passionate about. I think you will build a great audience that way. Thanks for watching mate..😬
@@OTWD Thanks Dan. They are on the heavier side, the entire 600mm long 5mm ss bundle pack (with everything) is 22kg but they will last decades. Reckon good value for what you are getting. Need to revamp those channels.
i'm borderline allergic to the outdoors so i have no idea why this came up on my home page but man i could really listen to you talk about fire pits for ages
When I read this the other day, I let out a mighty smile and "lol" - thanks heaps for the nice words mate. What a classic. Maybe YT knows something you don't...and you should go and try campfires in the backyard in a fire pit 😉
We love our Snow Peak! Super versatile piece of kit and as you well know Dan, your original videos about it were our go-to resource for advice, before we committed to the investment. As always, love your down to earth approach to these kind of videos. Love from this side of the planet x
I reckon there is a big market here in Australia for these style fire pits. Snow Peak is/was unwilling or unable to supply that market. Australian businesses that are more savvy to that market have capitalised on the opportunity (Kings, Drifta, Darche, Anaconda's Spinifex brand, various others). Drifta seems to be criticised more than the others because they once had a partnership with Snow Peak. My view, as discussed in this video - is I am happy to support a business with real manufacturing footprints in Australia (and isn't just a distribution centre).
Great stuff Dan, your very humble not blurting out your background and knowledge that you could have. one wonders what you could come up with all you need is a draftsman (cough cough)...
Thanks heaps Sir. I see a partnership on the horizon....? The Southern Gentleman's All-in-one Fire Pit' ?- Has a ring to it! I think I may have mentioned in an earlier comment about what I learnt about at uni -is that what you are referring to? Or are we closer in real life than I remember and I forget your alias..😬
Great review I have a small darche fire pit and it works great for what it is . I also live in Tumut and unfortunately drifter Stockton shut up shop about a month ago but toms is still here. Cheers Ian.
Good comparison. I bought the Snowpeak from Drifta back when they were in close partnership with the Japanese manufacturers(approx 10yrs ago) and flogging off their premium products at a premium price and I'm very happy with it...except as you clearly outlined how awful the mesh grill can be. Thanks for the tip on the wire alternative, my next purchase. Great content as usual!!
I have both the Snow peak and Drifta, I prefer and use the Snowpeak, but the Drifta is fine. I bought the Snowpeak FLOGA and it's a game changer for a bigger hotter fire and less smoke.
Great review mate. I saw another brand on a bushcraft/camping channel in the UK which looked really good but I didn't save the video. Doh. One other thing I saw is that some places won't let you have a fire on the ground so no fire pit no fire.
Great looking steak. It sounds like your son is like every other two year old boy. Girls are much easier! BTW I got an error submitting my form to subscribe to your mailing list.
9:24 nope, that's solution to a big problem, when you camping you can't predict the wind direction, the smoke and the sparks they can easly change direction, that handle on the side come handy to move it, and you can move the fire pit while it burning, and the handle just warm to hold no need for gloves, TRUST ME ON THIS, for the first time it look scary, just go, it just warm on hand, i used to move the fire pit very often while on camping
I’ve been searching for “firepit cooking” videos lately. This one’s the winner. I’m definitely putting it on my list of things to have a crack at. Another great video Dan. 👍🏼👍🏼
It's a trap, Owen, because once you start trying something like this, it's hard to go back! Thanks for watching mate. There's usually plenty of tin food in the car too! If diesel cost 50c/L maybe I'd have ribeye every night😆
To cook it the most tender I try to increase 1degC per minute until it reaches 45degC. At home this equates to about 40 minutes at 100degC in a fan forced oven (directly on the bars) - It's more tricky in a camp oven. I also forgot to mention that if the steak doesn't have much marbling then it can be good to lightly oil the steak before the sear, this is another way to encourage a good sear. What's your way of cooking steaks?
Thank you for all your efforts. Hope your Mum is ok. Remember family first . Take your time and get the channel the way you want it. Looking forward to the diff story. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures.
Thank you Dave. So grateful for your encouragement and support. Slow and Steady wins the race (or good luck is where hard work intersects with taking opportunities!)
On the one hand, that looked like a daunting trip. On the other hand, it was spectacular! The rugged, harsh, unforgiving bush combined with the steepness of those hills. Wow! That'd be a nightmare in the rainy season. I'm blown away by this, and I've only watched the drive-in so far!!! I love my Scottish woodlands and glens, but the scenery there is just stunning.
I've heard the Scottish Highlands are one of the most picturesque areas in the world. Our Australian Alps aren't too bad. Whatever you can get your hands on I say! Thanks heaps for watching Liam. As far as I know, you are still the only commenting Scot on the channel. Cheers mate.😬👍
Making videos for YT is a HUGE commitment. We understand. It's not something everyone can or is willing to do. You've a life to live and a family to love. That's what's important, Dan. We dont come close. We love your work, but we can wait. All the best from Scotland.
Such a heart-warming comment is hard to respond to, Liam. I think my videos must attract an audience that are like-minded to me, I'm blown away with kind words like this. Thank you so much.🍻🙏
Mate, You have great content and provide valuable information to Beginner campers and old pros, just a side note while there is Royalty free music on RU-vid available, beware and careful that the artist without notice can copyright the music without notice and effectively demonitize your channel and demand royalties, It has happened to a lot of RU-vidrs and there are videos, keep up the great work.
Thanks for the kind encouragement! Music wise I've been using 'audio hero' website which I think can be downloaded free by anyone, however with my 'tube buddy' subscription (I use for other stuff) it allows me to use audio hero for the channel without any fear of future copyright issues. The themes I use a lot (banjo, etc) work well as recurring music , but I really want to branch out, which is where a paid subscription like artlist or epedemic sound would be handy! Cheers, Thanks again for your support🙏
Thanks for watching, and that's a kind thought mate, thank you. What sort of drone is it? Where abouts are you? If you are serious about cutting a deal for a good cause shoot me an email at dan@outtherewithdan.com😬
Well done Dan, family always comes first, I did the same thing and I would do it again at a drop of a hat. I feel ya pain when it comes to group filming and especially if you’re tagging along, you do it well mate. Keep up the good work, your loyal supporters will always be there for you.
Thanks heaps Gav - you can empathise more than most. Going out filming can sure feel like a 'working holiday'.. I think we are experiencing similar challenges on the YT front. Appreciate you watching, encouraging and commenting 🍻
@@OTWD life’s busy mate. Just have to do what you can Dan, some times you just need to step back. I came back pretty refreshed, still struggling with a lot of things, RU-vid isn’t my priority at the moment, but I just want to channel to keep ticking over if that makes sense. Keep well mate.
Hi Dan I'm following from New Zealand, hopefully your mum is well now and you can get some more videos out. Keep up the good work with the Prado and the cooking segments . Looking forward to watching 👍👍👍
Hi Gareth! Hello from across the sea, mate. Thanks heaps for watching and following along. I really appreciate uplifting comments like this. Look forward to showing you plenty more 😬🍻
Great to see you and the update. Always look forward to seeing your adventures and see where you have been. Enjoy the stories told by a genuinely great guy. Keep up the good work and good health to the family
Thanks heaps for watching Lochie, Glad you enjoy my videos - these comments are really uplifting and make it all worthwhile. If you happen to have a drone you are looking to move at mate's rates to a good cause - shoot me an email to discuss further. Cheers. dan@outtherewithdan.com
