Moved away in 2003, but still a Bomber fan to this day. Took them from when I was 12 years old to 41 before they won another Cup, but well worth it (and they did it here in Calgary)!
I was at this game. It was my wife's first ever experience watching a CFL football game and it couldn't have been a better one. Half the fans left and I remember joking with my dad that they must have been confused as hell when the canon's kept going off, to signal a Bomber touchdown.
This was the first game I was at with my now wife. She kept saying "let's just leave and beat the traffic" after they won I just remember screaming at here "this is why you never leave!!!"
I remember watching the game on the airplane live, getting to see the game because the plane had ESPN2. I was glad to see it at all as usually games don't air live on ESPN2 here in America. One of the greatest comebacks ever in football history, and this is coming from a Riders fan.
One of best finishes in all football history in North America, you only ha e to show this to see what Canadian football is, and these are American boys too
I was at this game sitting behind Montreal's bench and after montreal scored darian durant was being cocky and walking back and forth waving goodbye to the fans and then this happened and the whole montreal bench just couldn't believe what they witnessed and refused to look at the stands with all of us waving goodbye to him
montreal is known for its lack of class like calgary, 2 most arrogant teams in the league when they get leads, one thing i admire about teams like winnipeg and edmonton and to a lesser extent even ottawa, they dont gloat and rub it in to the fans who pay to watch them play, its so sweet when you come back and beat these classless teams :)
Its not.... the Troy Kopp 1998 comeback vs Saskatchewan was much more of a miracle. The Bombers had a record of 0-10 and were down 28-10 to start the 4th quarter on their own 1 yard line after stopping the Riders 3 times on a goal line stand (Their second goal line stand in 5 minutes, really should have been 35-10 if Rider had not fumbled into the endzone on the drive previous to the one I mentioned. ie could have actually been 42-10) . Troy Kopp came in for TJ Rubley, had never played a down of CFL football in his entire life, and ended up putting up 4TDs in the fourth quarter to win 36-35. Despite being 0-10 and only 23k fans (only about 20k left to start the 4th), I have never seen the old stadium jumping like that in my entire life. One of the all time great moments of my sport watching life.
I was at that game too. The 'Rider fans who made that trip were seriously unhappy. I've never seen such a mixture of pissed off and despondent as what they were experiencing.
@@ryancoke9301 my favourite kind of plays though are when kicks/punts are returned for a TD. It's very exciting to see and get you shocked and you cheer it! (even if the refs take it away). While it can happen in NFL and such, it very rarely does so more possible in CF, especially ones that are 90 or more yards.
@@ryancoke9301 I highly recommend the best play I have ever seen in Canadian Football history (and top 5 of the team sports in the world too) is the 2018 Grey Cup where Calgary returns a punt for 97 yard TD (longest snice 96). It looked like Ottawa who was still losing but seems to be coming back would take over soon, if not 1st then in 2nd half, but then this happens... My mouth hit the floor! I was thrilled!
I don't know how to tell you this, but 12 points with nearly 2 minutes left in the same is not exactly a miracle comeback in the CFL. It happens a lot more often (and by wider margins) than you would think. lol
No kidding, For a Winnnipeger, it's disgusting how much he hates the bombers on pretty much every TSN broadcast. Almost as bad as Chris Cuthbert on hating winnipeg teams
@@nealsnikeris6962 it measn winnipeg fell asleep in that game and montrel wasnt that great whereas when the bombers did it it was in more a dramatic fashion
@CD Smith it shows how dominant this team used to be back then, the most dominant team of that time, butyou cant be dominant forever, its just been the stumps and esks turns lately.
This game was the first bombers game i took my fiance to. She saw how much we were down and said we should leave to beat the traffic. I told her you never leave until the final whistle in the cfl and thank god we stayed!
Watch that TD replay again. I think Harris was down before the goal line. His knee appears to touch with the ball outside the plane of the goalline. Probably not overturned because it was not "definitive" that the wrong call was made. In the end, I was cheering for the Bombers, so they squeaked one.
not that it matters you have the als, a team with a whiny qb who got lucky agianst winnipeg but harris showed blowman what a real man does, blowman had nothing to say after that game :)
In the 80s, say 87/88 I was in Hamilton and watched the old GC winning BB down 17 points at the three min warning. They tied by 00:00 and won in OT, lmao I barely made it out of the stadium...lol
2:50 - I still say that Nichols could have just run it in. Made a B-Line for the corner of the end zone, there was nobody over there. That would have had less drama, though.
look up 2006 vs the edmonton eskimos milt and the hailmary pass! this is a great second place but you never leave a cfl game with any time left on the clock.
This was truly inspiring. I could not believe my eyes that night. But I gotta say, Montreal's comeback win this year October 2019 against the Calgary Stampeders was even more epic. Unbelievable. cfl.ca has the highlights but it has not appeared on RU-vid yet.
My Grandpa had cancer. He passed away and shortly after he did? The Bombers won the Grey Cup. The years before he passed. I bought him season tickets to the Bombers! He was so proud he could cry. He said it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for him. I was flattered. My sister and my grandpa went to EVERY game that season. My Uncle told me that my Grandpa said it really made the last few years of his life more enjoyable than he could of imagined. I was really proud of that.... Anyways long story short. I love you to death Grandpa but you left early on one of the best comebacks in CFL history and I GOT YOU TICKETS FOR IT! I love my sister too but, she fucked up! How's that for a tear jerker twist? Went home early on the biggest comeback ever?!?....ugh! I hope it was worth beating the traffic!
@Batflip 09 nope been a huge fan for over 20 years, since i was 12 and started playing. I own every style authentic Jersey and have had season tickets for the last 8 years. Missed maybe a handful of games in the last 5 years usually work or hockey related
This game was topped by the 2018 Argos. They had the best comeback win I’ve ever seen this year, people left that game early too. They missed an instant classic.
I’m an avid Blue Bombers fan but His knee is DEFINITELY on the turf at 4:40 and I’m not convinced the ball had broken the plane of the goal line. This play has always been controversial for me.
In CFL after the 3 minute warning the game clock only starts at the same time as the play clock. It’s a bit longer than after they place the ball because the play clock is only 20 seconds and once the play clock starts you can’t change any players unless you call a timeout so the referees give a bit more time for teams to make changes before starting the play clock. Sometimes it’s hard to hear because of the commentators but when the referee whistles while they are Huddling, he is telling the time keeper to start the play clock. Before 3 minutes of a half the clock is always running unless it’s an I’m complete pass, in that case the game clock would start at the same time as the play clock. Sorry if this is confusing but I tried to explain it the best I can
@@chrisbegetis3414 A couple of corrections regarding what you wrote. Prior to the 3 minute warning, the clock also stops if the ball carrier runs out of bounds. In that case, the game clock starts running again when the ref starts the play clock for the next play. After the 3 minute warning, the game clock only starts at the same time as the play clock if a running play or a completed pass play finishes with the player tackled in bounds. If the player runs out of bounds or it's an incomplete pass, the game clock only starts when the ball is snapped on the next play.
