Have you ever wondered what the best cheap canvas for painting is on the market? Well, that's what you'll find out in this cheap canvas comparison video. I look at canvases from all the popular stores, Dick Blick, Michaels, Jerry's Artarama, and even Dollar Tree to see which is the best canvas for the money.
I'm a full-time artist. I make animal paintings in acrylics. And I'm always looking for a way to save money on canvases for painting, but also give my customers a quality product. In the past, I've tried painting on cheap canvases and haven't been all that happy with them. But I thought would cast a wider net and evaluate more canvases in this ultimate comparison video to see if I could find some good ones. Plus, who doesn't love unboxing art supplies?!

if you use cheap canvases, it's best to frame them. This way they won't warp. It is also a great way to fix warping canvases. I reviewed the very cheapest frames for canvases on the market! I buy my own bars, canvas, and primer and stretch my own.. they end up being less than half the price of the hobby lobby canvases. But im also using 1.5x1.5in. bars.. SunbeltMFG for bars, and Dickblick for canvas rolls and golden brand gessos.

Stretching your own canvas is lots of work, my hands can't do it since I have tendinitis

I have started using cardboard to paint with. It works pretty good and gives me an excuse to be a box hoarder. 😄

I think cardboard is good for practice painting, the problem is that it's not archival. So overtime it might yellow and your paint might change colors. Also, cardboard warps. But it is good for practice and free if you can reuse shipping boxes. One thing I found fun with cardboard was to use it to apply the paint to my canvases when making abstracts. It makes interesting textures :)
