Brilliant. Some frozen coffee ice cubes would be a nice addition to your brew. Sorry when I first saw the drinking glass I thought you must have been on the booze to ease the nerves being in front of the camera. Awaiting your next creation. 👍

I loved the little heart shaped coffee cubes you used before so much that I had to order me some silicone molds! Between those and my Takeya I have the whole official CG cold brew setup and I just love it!! 🤎

I'm not sure where those molds are now...probably at her mom's...we are currently starting a new house sit, so we've got our little travel kitchen set up with us at the moment....CG has a couple of tiny ice trays in our travel kitchen for her coffee cubes, but they're not the heart shaped ones

it's basically the same idea as sun tea, where you do not boil the water, but rather let the tea bags sit in the water and "brew" over time...folks call it sun tea because they'll often put the tea bags and water in a sealed jar and let it sit in the yard for a few hours in the sun

yeah, starbucks prices get kinda steep if you even think about ordering anything other than a "regular" cup of coffee...going to coffee shops is one of my favorite things to do, though, even if it is a little extravagant...it's hard for me to fathom that we just spent the past 15 months NOT going out for coffee...we definitely saved some money on coffee and eating out. Now we're back on the road again, and in the last couple of weeks we've gone to several coffee shops and restaurants...it seems SO EXPENSIVE after not shelling out money for such things for so long...plus the last time we were spending money on such things, we were in Mexico where prices were much lower

I use a 64 oz mason jar with a mesh strainer like your system. It work well. I bought the mesh mason jar strainer at (where else?) Amazon. It is made specifically for the 64 oz mason jar. I also bought a pouring lid with a handle that fits the same mason jar on Amazon. The lid was a bit pricey at $10, but I have a complete cold brew system like your. I do not put the mesh strainer in the dishwasher either. Great video keep them coming I enjoy every one of them.

CG bought some kind of cold brew contraption on Amazon that works with mason jars, but I haven't seen her use it yet, so I'm not sure what it is...she first started making cold brew when we lived in Seattle and originally she just used a mason jar and an old wire strainer...that worked, but it was messier (she is a gifted mess maker)

sounds good, although I'm never picky about any baked treat!--hot or cold--I'm interested :^) ...it's funny, because we just arrived at a pretty rural house sit for the summer and we had the notion that we'd turn it into a kinda "health retreat" for CG and I...but two days in and CG is busting out the chocolate chips and I'm all ready to bake some cranberry walnut scones

CG used to just use mason jars and a strainer to make cold brew, but it's a little more of a hassle making it that way, and she makes cold brew often enough that it's worth having the takeya in the kitchen...I like cold brew, but I still drink more hot coffee than cold (if we were back in New Orleans I'd probably be telling a different tale)

I love iced coffee but I never tried cold brew. I'm think before I invest in a new appliance - I have a French press. Have you ever tried it in one? I don't see what it wouldn't work - except mine is only a small one and the wait between fill ups will be an issue if I like it like I think I will! I'll remember to come back if I decide to order. Thanks!
@ChefBuckRecipes
@ChefBuckRecipes 3 года назад
I have a French Press, but I've never used it for cold brew...CG used to simply mix coarsely ground coffee and water in a sealed mason jar and let that sit in the fridge for a day, and then just strain it into another jar through a fine wire strainer...that worked fine, although slightly more hassle, but not a big deal if you're only drinking cold brew on occasion...when CG is on a cold brew binge she drinks it daily, so a dedicated cold brew maker is worth it having for her. Cold brew is more mellow and less acidic than brewed coffee.

You can use a French press to make cold brew. The Takeya It's just an easier method in my opinion.

@ChefBuckRecipes
@ChefBuckRecipes 3 года назад
you're in Oregon?--for some reason I thought you were in California!
@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1
You are actually supposed to lay it down on its side while brewing. It is supposed to lay on its side until it is done.
@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1
It really is the best cold brew maker. So much less messy than French presses or big drip units which is room temp brew, not cold brew, anyway, imo. I only wish that the filter was shorter & a bit wider to compensate - even in the event that meant the device needs to be shorter & wider as well. It would be even easier to clean! It is not hard to clean, it just could be even easier. I love it, though I find myself getting lazy & picking up a couple of bottles of Califa or Stok when it is on sale & drinking that for a few days here & there instead.
@okidave
@okidave 3 года назад
I have the same system and I like it a lot. I fill the filter to about 3/4 of the way and let it brew for at least 24 hours. You can always cut down the flavor by adding ice and a bit of water. But 36 hours is too long. I let one batch brew for about that long by accident and found the coffee too earthy and bitter.

@ChefBuckRecipes
@ChefBuckRecipes 3 года назад
we have the 1qt size Takeya carafe and lately CG has been using 2/3 cup of coarsely ground coffee, so that's a good place to start, but depending on the coffee type and the steeping time you might want to adjust that measurement slightly to taste
