Crested Butte just might be our favorite place in Colorado. There are endless hiking and mountain bike trails, dispersed camping is easily accessible, and the downtown is full of authentic mountain town charm.
We’ve spent the summer in our RV dodging wildfire smoke and bad air quality, so when we arrived in Crested Butte and the air was clear, we didn’t waste any time before hitting the trails.
We kicked things off with a mountain bike ride on Snodgrass Trail. From our campsite at Washington Gulch Dispersed, this trail was an easy five minute ride down the dirt road. Washington Gulch is a spectacular camping area 15 minutes from downtown. It’s easily accessible by vans, travel trailers, and truck campers. We even saw a massive 5th wheel RV up there, but that’s pushing the limits!
The Upper and Lower Loop is a tremendously scenic loop that leaves from the edge of town. We were treated to epic views in every direction while surrounded by wildflowers. We hiked along the crystal clear Slate River for the first half of the hike, and spent the second half of the hike looking down on the river from above.
Scarp Ridge to 421 Trail is another amazing hiking loop. This trail begins near Lake Irwin (a great place to paddle board!), and quickly ascends through a beautiful alpine environment. Getting to Scarp Ridge at 12,300 feet is a workout, but the challenging hike is worth the effort. This immediately became one of our favorite hikes, and we can’t wait to do it again. Check out those views in the video!
If you’re looking for something a little more tame, Judd Falls Trail is a nice easy hike that starts just outside of Gothic, CO. Wildflowers were everywhere, the views of Gothic Mountain are phenomenal, and the falls are a wonderful place for a snack break. Be sure to check out the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL) in Gothic. Founded in 1928, this field station is home to scientists from around the world, some of whom are conducting research projects that have been ongoing for over half a century at RMBL!
There’s so much to do in Crested Butte that we had to break things up into two videos. Make sure to Subscribe so that you don’t miss the next one!

Some things that we love as full-time travelers:
💧 Berkey Water Filter. Our Berkey removes any hazardous chemicals from questionable water sources, and means our drinking water isn’t sitting in our Airstream’s 6 year old plastic holding tank! bit.ly/3hRXNoe
🥕 Cast Iron Skillet. We have a bunch of fancy cookware, but make 90% of our meals in this thing! Works great on the grill, too. amzn.to/3iCrKKV

About Us:
👫 We're Cameron and Victoria Wylde. We live full-time in our 2015 Airstream International 27FB travel trailer. For years, we dreamed of living and traveling full-time in a camper.
In July of 2020, a few weeks after buying our Airstream, we took the leap. We downsized from 2,200 square feet to 200 square feet. We had never owned an RV before, and weren't sure if we were making the right choice. But within a few weeks, we knew that we had made one of the most exciting and fulfilling decisions of our life.
In our weekly videos, we show you how to take the first steps towards your goals, how to travel full time, and everything in between. Join us on our travels, and keep the stoke level HIGH as you plan your own adventures!
