I liked, commented and subscribed. I have watched this video multiple times, but only now understand it properly! It is highly recommended to rewatch this video periodically
I was so disappointed to find out that the ads multiplier can’t give you an exact sensitivity. I started playing on 15 and wanted my ads sense at 7.5 but it never felt like 7.5. This video solved some unanswered questions of mine and I’m very thankful for the time you put in it. Guess I’ll have to play around with more settings again
@@ShadowDestinyI’ve been watching your videos the 40-60 rule and this one on sensitivity, thank you so much. I have noticed a slight improvement in now I just need to get better people like you are the reason why stay I in the game God bless you friend.
hehe very funny. Yeah I'm such a huge fan of the ADS settings, I can finally turn fast and still hit my snipes. It will no longer take me almost a whole second to turn around LOL
For the Melee button mapping i use the Right Bumper for the charged Melee and for the normal melee i use the Right Stick. It makes for more deliberate use of the charged melee and less consequential aim mistakes if you press the stick while adjusting your aim
For PS controller, I kept auto melee as r1, made uncharged as r3, and made charged as ADS and r1. Just holding the aim button makes me aim better for some reason so works well for projectile melees for me and doesn't take away from my muscle memory
Me personally the only thing I change is that I put crouch as r3 because I only play hunter and exclusively played hunter for years so it’s really valuable to be able to instantly change direction, break aim assist, and have a few frames of god mode while still having my thumb on the right stick
9:17 thanks for that, completely missed it in the settings and was bummed that the traction feeling was gone… I’ll stick to 8 sens, 1.0 ads & 0.8 sprint modifier. Don‘t fix what ain‘t broken… 😉
I 100% had the misconception of the ADS multiplier. I was really hyped to bump my sens from 7 to 8 but running with 0.8 ADS multiplier to lower my aim to 6. I’ve had a much harder time adjusting to the fact that aiming is not 1:1 than expected, and also the acceleration factor def explain why I’m overshooting/under shooting more than usual.
Putting uncharged melee on right stick press feels quite nice when shotgunning. When you shoot just like squeeze the right hand and it shoots and instantly punches. I love it
I have the same setup and have special melee attack on RB. It is so fun on precision knife Hunter and tiny throwing hammer Titan. Some fun builds with them that synergize great with new and old exotics too.
Personally when it comes to sensitivity in games I’ve always said use whatever your comfortable using and use what makes you land your shots. However if you can use max sensitivity and still land all your shots then use max sensitivity. The advantages are insane, you can react quicker and in shotgun fights it makes all the difference. But if your using max sensitivity and missing some shots then tone it down a bit. That’s the way I’ve always looked at it.
Bro the aim assist makes me miss almost all my shots with how heavy it is i wish i could turn it off, same thing with how theres no deadzone setting, thats the 2 main things that stops me from playing this game a lot
I put my class ability as R3 and never turned back. Putting R3 as my hunter dodge is soooo good because you have complete ominous directional control when u dodge since your movement control is already R3. It’s seamless
I use 20 sense at .8 turn scale and .7 ads modifier so that when I’m using a sniper/shotgun/Thundercrash titan, I can bait and turn then slam and shotgun and guarantee my kills. The .7 modifier gives me a good middle ground between high zoom and low zoom ads sens. I wish I could change high and low zooms speeds separately because .7 is a little too slow for sniping and a little too fast for low zooms like the multimach, chromarush, or last word. I still have to experiment a little more but this is just what I’ve found so far. Great video, keep up the good work.
I wish they would add a linear sensitivity option for controller. It’s a learning curve and feels bad at first, but it has improved my aim in all shooters on controller, namely apex.
Yo so for the charged melee….I have a solution that I love. First of all, I have crouch set to R3 press and class ability set to long r3 press. This frees up the Circle ⭕️ button for your uncharged melee. I have charged melee still on R1 because, like Shadow said, you need your thumbs on your joysticks to aim your charged melee. This leaves Finishers in a weird spot. Since it only works in PVE, I put it on D-Pad Down button. If an enemy can be finished- you will instantly finish them. If not- your emote still works as normal! It may sound weird reading it but trust me, it feels like a natural solution for anyone who’s already used to playing on Puppeteer. Give it a try!
Idk if it’s just me but playing D2 on controller feels like ass because of the camera. Playing a game like COD, Battlefield or whatever on controller and then trying out D2 on controller again is just night and day for me. I feel like the aim acceleration is to blame for it. I hate when a form of aim acceleration is on by default and you can’t turn it off. Also, the weird vertical sensitivity issues for when I’m moving or sprinting is so bizarre. Like, if I change my sensitivity, let my sensitivity take into effect instead of restricting it when I do something. It’s kind of baffling to me that the camera feels this bad considering these are the same developer as Halo.
Great job explaining. I came up with roughly the same conclusion afrer testing in a lost sector for a few hours. I've ended up at 13 and .8 as my most comfortable. I could feasibly adjust down a hair to 12 and .8, but I'm just trying to go the "get used to it" route for the quicker turning.
For Button Mappings and a COMPLETE Guide to Movement and Aiming on Controller, watch this next: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MlH3ukHpkBQ.html What are your thoughts on these controller changes, did Bungie do a good job adding more options? Were you surprised to learn how the sens ACTUALLY works?
Great video! I'm hoping it helps me, but could use your advice. I WAS one of those kids who was great at video games. Lightning-fast reflexes and I could beat just about anyone handily, especially adults. But that was roughly 40-50 years ago as I go back to the first video game, PONG, back in the early 70's. I never stopped playing except for the odd year or two when going to college. But when I bought the first Xbox360 at launch, I started to realize I was slowing up a bit and my reaction times weren't as good. Fast forward to today, and I've got pretty significant arthritis in my hands so it's tough. I tend to react slow, then over-react to compensate. I have found kontrol freeks thumbsticks and precision rings to be a big help, but I will NEVER be very good in the Crucible. My only skill there is tactics in general. I'm going to go iwth your middle-of-the road recommendations and tweak from there, but if you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them! Thanks much!
So before this change about 2 seasons ago I was running 4 sensitivity. What would that be now? Should I even bother changing it after such a long hiatus?
This video gave me the motivation to finally mess around with the sensitivity and mapping. I have 5's across the board now because I've been doing a lot of scout/sidearm playing at range so I don't need fast turning and that has significantly improved my aim. BUT the biggest thing was being able to jump and slide while aiming. That alone has completely changed my playing for the better. I went from 1.0/1.5kd or worse on average to 2+ on average. Even matches where we get stomped I'm routinely doing better than I was prior to the changes. Don't think this doesn't apply to you, it's seriously helpful stuff. Great video! The only downside is this video cost me $80 because I couldn't find a good mapping without a controller that adds extra buttons. I expect reimbursement by the end of the quarter.
Thank you for your efforts I really loved how you explained a lot of options I just had by default and I feel I play better now. This video is a gods send.
I use 13 with a .7 ads multiplier. I havent done much experimentation with other setups yet but thats what feels right to me. Might not be the best for you but id give it a go
This was so informative I have shared it with all my friends and also subscribed. Thank you for clear descriptions and good info. Keep it up and good luck guardian
First video that I’ve ever seen by Shadow. I’ve got to admit. I’m impressed. The amount of work that went into this video is evident and well delivered. You’ve earned yourself a subscriber my friend.
Thanks for the great research. This helps a lot for deciding how to adjust the sens and multiplier! And not think lagging behind pc players just because using a sens of 9, wich is my max I could use, with a 0,8 ads multiplier as a HC and shotty main.
I Always Hear People Talk About How Giving Their Sensitivity Wouldn't Matter Since It's Up To The Player's Preference But.. I Still Think Getting Another Player's Sensitivity Is Helpful As It Can Provide A Template To Maybe See If Their Sensitivity Works For You Or If It's Somewhere Around Their Range
Man that was Super Helpful! Im soo glad to here you say you dont map your charged mele also, because I had the same problems. Plus you voice is easy to listen too. Keep up the great vids
I changed my sensitivity to 12 and 0.5 ads. I can finally hit shots and I picked up sniping. Also went flawless for the first time ever too. The boost in confidence definitely helped
I actually mapped my charged melee to R2 + L1. L1 being the uncharged melee already and R2 for ADS so it helps me aim my throwing knife. Seems to work for me.
Great video, man! You've got a new subscriber^^. For the charged melee I did this: - Disable automatic melee - Set uncharged melee as normal melee button (in my case is R1) - Set charged melee to "reload" + "melee button" (that's Square and R1 in my case). The benefit is that the reload button doesn't change your guardian's position, unlike jump or crouch. You can ever press reload slightly before melee and still works. Furthermore, the "clamp- efect" you make with your both fingers makes it way too suitable for a quick input.
I tend to use jumper but with the jump being binded to right bumper so I don’t accidentally use a grenade. I also find that turning off motion blur and for hand cannons having ether 100 recoil or one that ends in a 5 for easy 3 taps with your accurate
Loved the video. I’d love to experiment with new button layouts and different melee inputs, but I’ve been playing this game for so long with the same settings that I don’t know if it’s worth it. I have an Elite and I use all 4 paddles, so I already have crouching, jumping, reloading/reviving and sprinting mapped. But I did yo my sensitivity to 10 from 7, and my ADS multiplier from 1 to .7. Not sure if I like it more or not though
I have a set up where I don't have to take my fingers off any controls for movement, but it is optimized for my titan. I have my charged melee bound to R1 and normal melee to R3 stick (along with finishers, this prioritizes finishers over melee which is great in harder difficulties so long as you don't over extend yourself). Then my titan class ability to "tap" right D-pad, and still fit an emote as "tap and hold" (you have to use your class ability first to use the emote). finally I have jump and slide bound to X and O which convert into my Sony back-paddle attachment. Hope this helps someone.
So far I'm at 13 and .8 and still tweaking as time passes. Also mapping finisher to both sticks, normal melee to right stick, and charged melee to default melee button has worked wonderfully for me. Inspecting players is set to right stick double click with hold at end.
I’ve been using the Jumper configuration. tried out a few different options for the melee, i had it set to the same as the finisher at first but sometimes it would use the grenade (like it would do for inspecting people before I changed that) I think clicking both sticks was the best option but I still ran into some instances where it wouldn’t trigger, i also figured I’d be using the basic melee more often than the charged so I didn’t want to just switch them, so I just opted to not use the separate melee trigger. it would be cool if Sony put out an elite version of the dualsense so I could take advantage of paddles.
Look 9 / ADS 0.7 / Sprint Scale 0.7 Been playing Destiny for years and this is the best video about Controller Sensitivity. See u all in the Crucible or Iron Banner
As someone who played cod and halo a lot growing up, I set my charged melee to right bumper (I’m on Xbox I don’t know the PlayStation equivalent) and my regular melee to clicking right stick. As for finisher I don’t remember off the top of my head. I don’t have any paddles or anything like that so I don’t have a ton of real estate for my controller so something like this helps a lot
This is the best controller/sensitivity video I’ve seen thus far! I appreciate that you took the time time to explain all the settings as well 🙏🏻 I went from 7 sensitivity with traction to 12 sens, 0.7 ADS modifier and 0.8 turn speed. Was hesitant to go over 10 but scaling the ADS modifier down definitely helps keep your shot consistent. Seems to be working so far! 🙌🏻
Ok so I have a lot to say about this and I don’t know a good way to condense it, so, massive wall of text incoming. First off, I’ve always liked higher sense because of how easy it helps with rapid movement and helps against rapid movement. Most of the movement I gain from high sense on a daily basis is turning sliding into a disengagement tool akin to a hunter dodge without having to run hunter, and improving movement abilities like icarus dash (yes, I play TTD). With higher sense you can quickly flick your stick and sprint slide into cover for something comparable to what a hunter dodge does minus disabling aim assist and tracking. For icarus dash, only on higher sense can you flick around your stick like a maniac, confusing your enemies (and yourself if you’re not careful). As for helping play against rapid movement, higher sense allows you to flick and easily correct your aim on certain things higher level players use such as strafing, flying into engagements with stomp-EE5 and TTD, and not losing track of a hunter using a double jump mid engagement. The pain points you highlighted about higher sense are all true, it is much higher to maintain accuracy on higher sense and a lot of times you will be overshooting your target, but there are ways to mitigate that. Firstly, you can run a kontrol freek, they aren’t too expensive and a heightened stick 100% has increased my accuracy on higher sense as it slows the acceleration curve as to not feel jarring- honestly I couldn’t imagine going back to no kontrol freek without lowering my sense. Secondly, the 0.5x ads scalar has also made my aim extremely accurate on most weapons, the only ones that it hasn’t improved, as to be expected, are hip-fire based weapons like TLW, DMT, tommy’s and hip-firing on general weapons, which is a niche scenario and can be improved with training. The one thing I’ve noticed about 20 sense as compared to 10 sense is that you only really feel a massive difference in aim when your right thumbstick is fully pressed down on the edge, meaning the entire zone inside the center and the edge feels almost identical to 10 sense. This makes running hip-fire based weapons possible, just that you need to train yourself to not hold the thumbstick fully down to one edge and it will definitely be an entire process. Lastly, button binds. I used to have a messed up right bumper because the xbox elite controller is complete ass (would recommend the power a fusion pro 2 btw if you run an xbox controller), but I had to bind melee to the right thumbstick for a long while until my new controller came in, so by the time it was in I was completely used to the right thumbstick and couldn’t go back to the bumper. With the new charged and uncharged melee, I’ve been running uncharged on the stick and charged on the bumper, and it’s taken a little bit of retraining muscle memory but eventually I think it’ll click. I used to have class abilities on RB for ease of use, but with the new addition I’ve bound hunter dodge back to B, B, and I’ve messed around with my emotes and bound rift and barricade to down on the pad- you can reach over with your right thumb to press down- and I did this because in general I didn’t like holding B to place a rift or barricade and you couldn’t slide into a rift or barricade with it bound to hold B. TL;DR Higher sense allows faster more rigid moves and helps combat against it, 0.5x ads modifier and a kontrol freek helps with high (20) sense, and bind uncharged melee to RS(R3) and charged melee to RB(R1)
Ok hear me out. Finisher is right bumper and charged melee is right bumper. Uncharged melee is right stick and interact is right stick. So every time I res or talk to someone I punch them.
for the button mapping I am Running a battle beaver xbox controller with 4 back buttons that can be mapped to different face buttons of the controller. I have: X mapped to interact (top right back button) A mapped to class ability (bottom right back button) B mapped to un charged melee (Top left Back button) Down D-Pad mapped to Charged Melee (bottom left back button) For jumping I'm playing bumper jumper so left bumper is jump, right bumper is grenade. Also have super set to Y+Right bumper cause I kept having issues with A+right bumper using my class ability instead of activating my super.
My melee layout: L2 for charged melee, R3 for uncharged. Tap down d-pad for finisher, hold down d-pad for emote. This has been working for me, but I run a pretty normal button layout, no puppeteer or anything. Just remember you can change things to hold, so put stuff on the d-pad and just change emotes to hold. I use down for important stuff because it's the closest distance my thumb has to move from the stick.
I don't know if you ever figured out a better button map for the finisher, but, as I just saw this video like a week ago I have been messing around with some and I have now set my finisher as a double tap using the X/Square button on my controller. So it takes priority over reload and has been the easiest thing for me to do. It's quick, reliable and responsive. And i moved my melee ability to the RB/R1 button, so no more accidentally throwing my knives or smoke bomb as a hunter.
Another great video, thank you. Your findings correspond to my experience too. I'm at the higher sensitivity end though. Currently using 15 Sens with a 0.8 modifier and i found out for me this is much better than Sens 11 (which i used before). Even for sniping. Anything above 15 is pointless to me. I tried it and i even started missing my shotgun shots.
I have my charged melee mapped to the right bumper and uncharged mapped to right stick click and it works great, i think im gonna set my finisher to clicking down l3 and r3 at the same time like you mentioned, i didn't even consider it, i have my finisher set to double click r3 and its a bit awkward cause you do a random melee before the finisher lol
I personally don't play with controller, but I found this video to be pretty helpful. So if I do run into any controller players having trouble, I'll be sure to refer them to this video.
This is a suggested video in my feed and I had to watch the whole thing. I've never struggled in any game ever with ADS accuracy until destiny. PvP or PvE I just cannot for the life of me snap to targets, flick regularly, or just get mostly hits on moving targets, and I know it's because ADS-ing just doesn't feel good for me in Destiny. It's funny that you said if ppl told you what to run your sense at them they're prob not giving you good advice because I thought so! 4:23 this right here! I literally can NEVER find ppl when it gets messy in close quarters. Are they behind me, above me, what???
Great contact mate. Loving the fact someone is not MNK focused. I run a standard series S controller, though I am looking into getting one with paddles, do you have any recommendations? Anyway if you are interested, my custom layout is: Left click = sprint & finisher (since if you are in finisher range you can’t sprint so it defaults to the finisher) Right click = crouch which is also doubles as slide (I’ve been doing this in FPS so long I can’t change) also allows me to keep thumbs on sticks) A = jump (I’m aware this is far from optimal but again I am used to it) Circle = dodge (again not optimal but allows me to keep left thumb on stick so I can pick the direction) Left click + right click = super (used infrequently but it’s not a combination of buttons I press by accident, but also allows me to keep thumb on stick to aim Shadowshot etc) LB = charged melee (most trees I use have a throwing melee so they feel like a Grenade anyway) Lastly I have grenade bound to =Hold Left Thumb stick. This allows me to not get mixed up with crouch because of the delay when pressing and again I can aim it straight away by keeping thumb on the stick. Keep up the controller content !
Hey man, glad you’re liking the controller content! I have a bunch of controllers linked in the description of my ultimate controller guide video. I personally use the Astro c40 which is currently only available in refurbished condition
Such a detailed Video 👍 great work man!!! thanks a lot ☝️ i tried playing with a sensi of 18 to become faster and to react faster.... but if you play main with a sniper, it's very frustrating... now i can understand the settings much better! Thanks for all the work.... great Video 👏👏👏
This, along with the FOV video, completely changed how I play. I THOUGHT I SUCKED BECAUSE MY EYESIGHT WAS BAD. 😩 It’s because my FOV and sensitivity was out of whack! I’m actually somewhat good compared to how I was before changing these settings 💀 Thank yaw! ❤️🙌
Here is my GENIUS layout for uncharged and charged melee but 2 years late. You can use this with or without paddles. For XBOX controller: - RB for Charged Melee - UP on the directional cross for Uncharged Melee - Both Joystick press for Finisher - Right Joystick press for crouch and slide. For PS4 / PS5 controller: - R1 for Charged Melee - RIGHT on the directional cross for Uncharged Melee - Both Joystick press for Finisher - Right Joystick press for crouch and slide. With paddles: Assign the cross button you use for melee to one of 4 paddles. If you only have 2 paddles don't do it. A linear path for the left thumb to go from joystick to cross is simple, perfect for quick reactions. This layout also doesn't give up on any input and is easy to use. If you find any problems in your layout with this, you can ask me to help with a comment.
Just watched the 40/60 and now this. I feel like I'm a fairly decent PvP guy ranging from a 1.5 to a 1.7 KD every season. But with the new trials matchmaking I find myself in 1v3s fairly regularly now. And do find myself just trying to tank one gun fight before going to cover or trying max my sensitivity so I can be "ultra snappy" or watch other guys do just out of this world movement. And I can feel it affecting my other game play especially my sniping and my primary fights. Good vids bud and you earned a subscription from me!
I usually have a kd below one and thought I suck in pvp. After watching this video I switched some things up and in the first match (after patrolling to get used to it) I got a kd above 4. Those weren't great players tho but it was so good to finally perform good
I'm sure this will be discounted as BS but I followed some of the suggested tips and oh my goodness has it helped. I've been play testing around with guns I previously deemed unusable like Fatebringer and AOS because my sensitivity was apparently too high and I dropped 2 We Ran's in rumble and won 90% of the games I played all evening. Could not be more thankful man 100% this video improved my game like nothing else.
So far iv gone through. About. 4. Controllers. , ,, i started with a black. One. Few years. Then clagged up. ,,, so they gave me a what's one. ,,,few more years. ,,then i got a black one with that extra little button thing. ,,,,,,,etc etc etc etc. ,,,,for some reason. They have problems. Connecting to the box. ,,,,,,iv don't that hold buttons down caper. IT TAKES FOR EVERRRRRR. ,😕😕😕😕😕😕
While I do appreciate the new control options Bungie has added over the years, there’s still so many actions in this game that are hard coded to work in a certain way. They added this whole long press, regular press, and double press system for any input. Yet they don’t actually work for most actions and and don’t get interrupted. For example, the reload on vex mythoclast will always activate on release press, even if you put the alternate weapon action on a button separate from reload. The action will always be hard coded to go off on release, when it doesn’t need to.
How is your aim journey going, have you settled on anything yet? I never played Destiny but this game looks really fun. I play call of duty or apex most the time and I also noticed the ads multiplier felt weird in those games too. I know apex has a true linear curve but the preset senses, some have ramp up time so its still acceleration. You would have to use advanced look controls instead with no ramp up or the higher presets that don't have ramp up but on linear that is hard its so fast already, haha. But for call of duty its not a true linear curve so I just always stay at 1.0 multiplier. I wish all games would add ALCs so we can fine tune our stuff. I learned that I wasn't crazy from this video, cause I too tried this in the past on other games where I used a 8 sens on call of duty at 50% multiplier as well, I thought it was funny we both tried that on other games of course though. Anyways video was informative and enjoyable, keep on grinding brother.
HELP. I am a pc controller player and ever since they introduced a finisher my character does an auto finisher every time I’m close enough to a finish able enemy and am moving at all. I’ve tried everything. But if I am moving in any direction and near a finashable enemy it happens everytime all the time. How can I make this stop!!!
Go into your custom button mappings and make your finisher mapped to the correct button. It sounds like you've got it double bound to something you press all the time, like sprint or aim or shoot. Bind it to R3 or something else
Mate! That's brilliant work and insight. Have you got any thoughts on the impact of using the XBox Elite 2 controller with it's customizable profiles for how the joysticks respond, i.e faster or slower than the game response.
....no joke...I actually have put my uncharged melee on my left d pad button, so I can't emote with a gun in hand So yeah, because my O has dash on pres dive finisher on double press and hold for class ability because it allows my to Barracide slide and rift slide and instant doge after diving expecially when 1 cm of the ground when I need a doge XD so yeha, no space for 2 different melee as my autistic ass presses the sticks multiple times out of habit and if you bind charged and auto on the same thing the auto takes priority so you literally can not normal melee like you would with a melee lunge unless it's changed or have someone in front of you meaning I have to use my non charged melee instead of just pressing r1
Wow I’m glad to finally know how these new settings actually work ha! I’ve never messed with them, just left them at default/middle values. Now I have an idea how to change them to best fit my play style.
@@ShadowDestiny and thank you for explaining everything so well. I’m sure it will help and I’ll try out different settings tonight. Also subscribed for any future tips, much love from Texas!
@@lucasblanchard47 Haha thanks man! I've got many more videos like this so feel free to check them out, and I'll continue to make more! Thanks for the support
Lil tip I set my dodge to L3 so right stick click and now I can dodge much much faster it really helped for survivability still trying to thing of a remap for my smoke bomb tho haha oh and one more thing if you ain't got paddles stop what you doin and buy some mo fuckin paddles
