In mine and the experiences of my producer friends, I would say there is no superior DAW as much as which one is best for you. While my personal favorite is logic, my friends who use pro tools, studio one, Reaper, and Abelton have all created stellar works of art. They are all really good. After you've picked your favorite, the only thing that really matters is studying those tutorials and getting good with it.

4:06. That’s not unique to Ableton. You just need to click the arrow underneath a column of loops in Logic and is does exactly the same thing.

In Ableton, you can open a second window and be able to view Sessions and Arrange windows simultaneously. And from that 2-window view you can drag clips from either of the windows to the other. If you are only using one window in Ableton you can move clips in the Session view to the Arrange window by highlighting the clips you want to move, clicking on one, then hit the tab key and drop them into the other window. This works for moving clips from Arrange to Session as well. Of course Control or Command C and Control or Command V works as well.

I have a strong dislike when people saw what or who is better!!! They both are great DAWS in their own right in my opinion!!! But at the end of the day the average John Doe isn’t thinking about the DAW we use!!! All they want to know is do they like it and is worth them spending their own money in it!!! Ijs 🤷🏽‍♂️

My trials for both are just about up. I am a casual writer, but perform and teach music quite a bit. I use the new MacBook Pro (it is an insane production beast, btw), and often record simple projects or use it for live performances. I agree that this is a heavy preference contest. I can see both shine in the right hands (including the TUSH). As someone that struggled with the learning curve of Ableton for YEARS, using Logic and making more content with it in a matter of weeks made rethink my original choice. I was constantly asking myself with Ableton: "Why isn't that just one button press????" Ableton just feels clunky, congested, slow to navigate, sometimes unintuitive (other time VERY intuitive, though). The session view is very nice. I want to be able to visually feel comfortable with my composition and work. But Logic getting similar features??? Hm.... And I have become more realistic about what I am using my DAW for now. I don't need the glaring ceiling (all of the features) that Ableton tends to show on the screen at all times. I want to focus on my playing and the artistry behind the keyboard more. But I can see how people that love to manipulate via software could be attracted to Ableton too. I have one week for Ableton and Logic to impress me. Ableton has become the "there really is everything here if you know/learn how to find it" DAW, whereas Logic has become "everything you really need, and you can find it" DAW. My tip: get the one that makes you actually make anything, then save up for the other later if you NEED something different. Also, the tush really does push!

I can only say that I tried Ableton first when I had no idea what I was doing and was able to start playing and recording something within 10 minutes, then tried ProTools and couldn't figure out... anything. One year later I had the same result. Still using Ableton for everything 4 years later and made whole albums (metal and prog rock) in it, it has a few quirks but overall is just very intuitive imo.

Logic has in fact been around longer than Ableton. The first release of Logic was in 1993. Apple purchased it from eMagic and shitcanned the windows version in the late 90s I think,

Hello, I have a very particular question for you😅, since you always bring videos related to the work of sound via software, do you have any practical advice to obtain an improved sound in earphones (with active ANC) for long study sessions? (modifying the sound) That is, implemented to maintain concentration, to avoid distractions, and to deliver the right frequencies / wavelengths to the brain for beneficial purposes. I think this may have practical feedback to what you usually do, that is, there is something you can do to (lightly) touch the music and perform better in the studio. I know scientifically there is something (like beneficial frequencies and more). Certainly, like yours, an advanced knowledge of sound, mixing, changing musical parameters etc may suggest doing something.

Logic has definitely been around longer. Logic came out in 1993, and Ableton Live came out in 2001.. That aside, great video! I run both and do traditional recording studio stuff in Logic, but for backing tracks and patch changes live I use Ableton because it's less CPU hungry, I've never had it crash, and it does everything I need. I know most people only use one DAW, but they really do have different pros and cons. I think in the future, more people will run more than one DAW.

I just got a Macbook pro with the M1. My main goal is to record, mix, and EQ my own vocals. I’m into stacking harmonies, so I end up with tons of tracks (often 80+) Would I have a better experience working with Logic Pro or Ableton? I also have a Roland Juno that I’d like to play around with from a midi perspective. What do you all suggest?

I always find Ableton to sound better than Logic...is it psychological or something else I don't know...people say there is no difference in DAW apart from some workflow quirks...and there shouldn't be ofcourse...But, even in this video, Ableton's sound feels different and better to my taste...But, i usually always end up using 'Logic' for my projects, only because of how easy it looks...it feels better organized than 'Ableton'...The skin tone, the layouts...everything...

A push 2, yeah still got one of those as well, bought it because I thought it would be fun, but I can't get used to that workflow, nothing beats a mouse, keyboard and a midi keyboard. Push 2 is fun to use but it slows down everything so much compared to the non Push 2 workflow.

You can also see both views at once in Ableton Live if you have a second monitor. I think Logic's Drummer makes jamming, composing and arranging music with realistic sounding drums much faster and easier for musicians who are playing real instruments. Logics bundled instruments and effects are way better than Ableton Live, which kind of asks for 3rd party plugins. On the other hand, Ableton has a much cleaner interface and workflow. I use both and my conclusion is that Logic allows me to compose faster for traditional songs while Ableton is best for electronic stuff... tough Ableton also makes it easier to fix the timing of specific notes on you recorded instrument parts... Ableton's tempo warping that is something I miss in Logic.

My biggest problem with Ableton is that it hogs the shit out of my computer resources (I've got a MSI 16GB ram with i7 and solid state) and I still end up getting the 100% CPU light very easily. It's not like I'm tacking on tons of plugins and effects... so then they want you to "freeze tracks" but that sometimes takes minutes of time to do... and at that point I'm just annoyed and definitely not in any type of "flow state."

I like Reaper a lot, much more than any other DAW, it needs initial and complicated personalization, but when is done, it's superfast. Ableton y Reaper están muy por encima de los otros DAWs, y en segundo lugar Studio one, Fl studio es una mierda infernal, solo tiene de bueno el piano roll.

Haha. I love this vid. And, the review is exactly what I needed, as I am trying to get started in the Techno, Trance realm, and am stuck between Logic Pro and Ableton Live. And, I'm not an engineer and don't want to get stuck on the complicated things. Yet, I might spend time just mixing more so than producing my own songs. So, as far as mixing with interest in the Techno, Trance realm, I still don't know which one would be better for that. Anyone have any thoughts?

They're both really good my man. There are probably more tutorials for Ableton online, but keep in mind you need to buy more VST's and effects, wheras in Logic you already have almost all you need (Alchemy, the huge Library, you don't even need to get LFOtool as StepFX does the same job (and more)). I use Logic for trance but it really doesn't matter the genre, what matters is to know your tools and use the one you know the best.

Nice video. I’m an Ableton user these days, but I used Logic for a long time. It’s great, as well. I agree that Ableton is currently better if you like the session-view looping approach. That said, Logic’s Live Loops is a very impressive entry into that concept for Apple’s first take on this. Like you said, Ableton has been around a lot longer. It’s more mature, and it feels like it. But Logic’s looping has some nice features (side-by-side view) and a great UI. If Apple keeps pumping resources into it, it could surpass Ableton pretty fast IMHO.

You are right, I love the Ableton workflow but it isn't pretty visually. On the other hand, it doesn't distract with all kinds of shiny stuff... It's minimal and does the job. Would have been nice if some of the stuff, especially the instruments and effects would be able to enlarge, some of them are (like wavetable) but the older ones are not. I like the newer ones better in that means.
