Fiocchi is now openly stating this is #1 buck, but was not when I began purchasing this loading. Many if not most ammo sites still have this categorized as 00buck, which is confusing because Fiocchi DOES offer an 8pellet 00buck load AND a 9 pellet 00buck load under the Defense Dynamics brand.

Have you compared this to the Fiocchi 8 pellet? Very few folks talk about that one (black w/ rolled ends), but i wanted to see how it stacked up against Federal LE13300 (flight control). I literally just bought boxes of both Fiocchi (8 and 9) and wonder if their 8-pellet load is actually 00, and not #1. Got options for my 870 and Shockwave. Thanks for your contributions!

@@tungsoltube I’ve not compared. The only thing that makes me want to step up to 00buck over this load is the flitecontrol wad. If I was hunting with it, the 00buck extra penetration might be beneficial. For defense against people, I think it’s unnecessary

I got a case (250) of this from Midway during my birthday week pricing (check that out if you don't know) and I paid less than .59 a round after tax and delivery. Total luck that I selected this stuff based on price and now I wish I got more. The round cycled perfectly through my Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol. This stuff is absolutely amazing with regards to recoil and it patterned perfectly, keeping all pellets on a B-27 silhouette out to 25 yards... I emptied the gun several times per target with no fliers. Really happy to hear about the performance in gel as well, and yes it's definitely #1 buck but marked as 9 pellet buck (same box and velocity).

I have this load except its the lastest version in the clear hull with low brass item # 12EX9P. The pellet size in my example measures .30 - .30 1/2 cal. Pellet weight 41.4gr each, total 9 pellets 372.6gr. Powder charge of 18gr, flakes are big and flat. I also get about the same performance as you did in your video. I think its a great soft shooting load that is perfect for tactical and defensive use. I have no autos only pumps.

I've been saying this for a while now - the Fiocchi DD patterns very well out of my 590. Just as good as a few other much more expensive options. People think if they pay more, it must be a better performing load, but that isn't always the case. Then again, many people never bother to pattern their shotgun in the first place, or they'd know that.

Nice presentation. Never used #1 buck. I have cases of #4 buck and 00, some 000. A fellow on another page just clued me in on your content as the Shockwave or one of a couple of shorty Turkish 12 gauge autos tend to accompany me into the woods and swamps for things a handgun might not do well enough in a hurry.

Especially remarkable about this load is the absence of a "ninth pellet flyer" that is common for all other nine-pellet loads, including Federal Flight Control 00B. I guess the smaller diameter allows nine pellets to stack symmetrically inside the hull. Also remarkable is the lack of penetration of an old sheet of plywood after 16 in of ballistic gelatin.

Looks like they don't even state the shot size on this stuff. It just says "9-pellet" which people just assumed is 00B. If its #1B, then that's a very interesting concept. No wonder it has light recoil and patterns tight. #1B is usually 12-16 pellet. I would wager that it performs well through chokes too. This looks like a great load for pump guns and recoil-sensitive users.

Looks like what I used in my ATI Bullpup Bulldog review & Buckshot Selection for Home Defense Video at 11 yards on multiple targets This "00" vs S&B 12-pellet #1 vs Rio #4 vs Sterling Big Game people may want to take a look. Thanks for putting it into Clear Ballistics...I am confident #1 Buck has enough momentum for man sized HD problems with less retained momentum through walls than standard 00. American Buckshot is often smaller diameter than what it really should be. It functioned Bulldog fine 2nd day after just breaking in a bit with slugs then birdshot on day 1. Maybe I will get a new shottie with wood and do patterning at like 7 and 15 yards...but picked 11 as that really is longest in most people's homes that aren't rich.

I bought some "fiocchi 00 Buckshot 9 pellet 1325 fps" loads and they measure .30 so they are #1 buck not 00buck. They also have soft recoil compared to normal power (1275 fps) Federal 9 pellet. Because of the lighter payload. About 7/8th OZ.

"Number 1 buck is the smallest diameter shot that reliably and consistently penetrates more than 12 inches of standard ordnance gelatin when fired at typical shotgun engagement distances." (Tactical Briefs #10, Oct. 1998) Get the velocity low enough and it will not penetrate adequately, and things like leather jackets may give it trouble (i.e. won't penetrate the jacket), say, around 40 yds, maybe shorter.

I have a Benelli m4 and it eats anything. Oddly enough I get a failure to cycle about every 3rd round with this ammo. It sucks because the round recoil is nice but seems like it gives just enough power to spit the used shell out but won’t load a new round. Any ideas what the issue may be?

Sorry but I'm a Federal flight control fanboy to the end. Maybe it has more recoil but the patterning on the flight control is superior to EVERYTHING I've tried including Fiocchi. Perhaps its just my Mossberg's and is not the same for anyone else. But the only change I might make is if Federal's #4 buck shorties add a flight control and they end up patterning as well as the 2 3/4's 00 Buck. The recoil, or lack of recoil really, on the shorties is amazing but the pattering is similar to other shells. I do shoot the shorty slug and it travels just fine. Fyi I can fit 11'ish of those in most of my tubes w/o over-compressing the shells. But I'm glad I caught this review. For practice I use off brand shotshells. I'll add definitely Fiocchi to the top of my list of brands to watch for sales and give them another try if the pricing is good. But flight control shells and/or shorty slugs will still be the round of choice for our home defense gun(s).

I wait for sales and can usually pick up the flight control for about $1-1.10/round w/ sometimes free shipping and depending on the vendor location, sometimes no tax. The best price I've found on the Fiocchi is about $0.70/round plus shipping and tax. So I'm with you, for a max of 30-40 cents more per round I'll probably just go with the round my guns seem to like, the flight control. But this creators test shows good results so if the Fiocchi goes on sale somewhere or I can find it w/ free shipping, etc. I'll definitely give it another go.

@OGbqze
@OGbqze 7 месяцев назад
Another great budget option is to buy target load. Then use a Lee Buckshot Mold or Slug Mold and mold the shot into a slug or buckshot of choice. Then you simply drop the buckshot or slug into the target load shell and you have a "low power" buckshot or slug. They may have reduced recoil, but they are MORE than capable of extreme damage, and for 25 cents a piece.
@OGbqze
@OGbqze 7 месяцев назад
If you do decide to mold slugs like I have, you have to slightly trim the WAD if you decide to roll crimp it. Otherwise you can simply just peel the previous crimp open then close it back once you replace the shot.

Interesting how the weakest is synonymous with the best... the whole point of a shotgun is max payload to stop the threat in as few shots as possible, this is going the wrong direction. Higher pattern density means more things get shredded inside the body.
