For anyone with a triple monitor setup and wanting to dock their Surface Pro 8 to three monitors - I purchased the Plugable Usb-C Triple 4K Display Docking Station and I am now able to extend my Surface Pro 8 to three external monitors, plus the Surface. The touchscreen on the Surface works perfectly while docked.

This is the Plugable one I use at the office with my Surface. I also use an Alogic triple monitor dock at home and it works perfectly with the surface as well.

You can use a USB-C Monitor without using any Docking Station... You can daisy chain two monitors thru DisplayPort then thru USB-C to Surface Pro USB-C Thunderbolt.

With the Surface Pro 8 and LG's new 42" OLED 4k TV I have two questions. What is the cheapest way to get 4k (just a cable adapter from Thunderbolt to HDMI) (although I do like the combined charging)? And with the dual screen setting inside the LG can you run split with it *kind of like have two monitors?)

Thanks for the comment Clint! The cheapest way to connect a 4K display would indeed be something like our USBC-HDMI adapter, which will allow you to extend up to one 4K display on your Surface Pro 8. As for the dual screen functionality, we unfortunately cannot speak to compatibility with our devices as we have not had the chance to fully test this feature.

I have myself a surface pro X, what would you guys recommend for monitors or any other accessories? I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X13s but that’s more of my “daily/stay in my backpack/school” laptop but I wouldn’t mind incorporating it for a home-work setup as well just give me any advice !!

will the Surface Pro 8, using the pluggable work on a Samsung 49 - C49HG9x, what is the recommended cable to use?

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, this configuration would be ill-advised. The Samsung C49HG9x is a very high-end monitor with 144Hz refresh rate, which is not officially supported on the TBT3-UDZ. Can 2 portable USB-C monitors be connected to the TBT4-HUB3C? Will it also charge the Surface Pro at the same time and powering up the 2 monitors?

Without more information in regard to the specific model portable USB Type-C monitors you are using, we cannot make any definitive statements. However, in our experience helping others we have found that many portable USB Type-C monitors will work when connected directly to the TBT4-HUB3C hub, and the TBT4-HUB3C hub will still provide power to charge a compatible host computer. Thanks for the comment! It appears that the Surface Pro 8 can only be used as an additional display when projected wirelessly, so we do not expect your proposed setup to work unfortunately.

Thanks for asking. Though we do not have one of these displays for testing, it should work with our docking station as that display has HDMI connection alongside the USB-C Alt-Mode connection.

With 2 monitors attached by HDMI cables to your dock, can the Surface Pro 8 screen act as a 3rd screen or must it be mirrored top one of the HDMI monitors? Is the answer the same if one more of the monitors are attached vis DisplayPort cables instead of HDMI cables?

Thank you for asking. As shown in the video, our docking station should allow for you to connect two displays to the Surface Pro 8 and have each screen extended including the computer display itself.

I use Plugable USB-C 4K triple display docking station with my Surface Pro 8 and it works perfectly. My 3 monitors are 1920x1080 and they all work plus the surface touchscreen display works as well.

Thanks for reaching out to Plugable. This should support our three display docking stations as the required USB-C Alt-Mode and Power Delivery for laptop charging should be supported by Thunderbolt 4 on the Surface Pro 8.

I use Plugable USB-C 4K triple display docking station with my Surface Pro 8 and it works perfectly. My 3 monitors are 1920x1080 and they all work plus the surface touchscreen display works as well.

Thank you for asking, the TBT3-UDZ and TBT4-HUB3C are Thunderbolt 3 and 4 devices so as long as the host computers support Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4, both products should work for those laptops.

I started using the TBT3-UDZ for my microsoft pro 8. I connected two screens via HDMI cable to the TBT3-UDZ and then connected the usb-c cord from my surface to the doc but I can only get the main tablet scree and one additionally screen to work. The 3rd screen states that it dies not pick up a signal even though it is plugged in. What could be causing this?

Hello there, thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, you would not be able to use the Surface Pro 8 as a second monitor via wired connection. This would require the Surface to have an video input, which it does not. However, it can be used in conjunction with the TBT3-UDZ to support 2 additional monitors (as seen here). The Surface Pro 6 does not support USB-C, Thunderbolt or Alt-Mode connections for extending displays, but it does have a USB 3.0 port. As such the Surface Pro 6 will not support any of the devices featured in this video, but it will support our display link USB Type-A docking stations and display adapters.

Thanks for asking! The important difference between the Surface Pro 7 and Pro 8 and is that the latter supports Thunderbolt, but the former only supports USB-C. The dock shown in our video (TBT3-UDZ) will work over a USB-C only connection, but at reduced functionality (e.g., 1080p support only). While I can't guarantee anything as it is not a product we support, it looks like the Surface Dock 2 is compatible with the Surface Pro 8, albeit with a few less ports and without the flexibility of Thunderbolt 3/4.

Thanks for the question! While the Surface Dock 2 is convenient for Surface products, our Thunderbolt products allow for compatibility over a wider range of products in case you want to use a host that is different than a Microsoft Surface.
