My question is...I built Ver1, so can I just do the controller swap, and will buying the new plans allow me to do just that...only change out the controller? Not sure I'm in a hurry, since the machine works perfectly as is...but I'd like the knowledge of the upgrade path... t
What most folks seem to want to know is when will the XL plans be ready. And what will the cost be. I certainly understand and appreciate all the work, time and effort y'all have put into this project and the constant improvements. Thank you
Wanted to say thank you for introducing me to the cnc plasma community. I built this table last year and enjoyed every part of it. The insight of how everything works is worth the cost alone. I have learned so much- actually just broke this machine down and built a second bigger one. I am in the process of laser cutting a plasma torch holder out of acrylic for it now. Props to y’all for continually updating your design. Much love from Texas! ❤
I've been complaining that I feel they don't charge enough for the product they offer. Considering that its simply a Father/Son team and they even respond personally to emails. I'll gladly pay more for what they do. Thank you for all you do JD's
i bought both plans. I really like this second generation set. I didn't build the first one but I will build the second. I already ordered all the electronics & will build my controls first. after that I will build the frame. So far so good! Also these plans are a steal for sure!
For yall complaining about buying it again. Come on, let's be real. It's only 25 bucks, and it looks like he has attached videos and goes as far as a step by step on wire measurements and placement to make it easier. Its worth every dime.
This is a revision of the original plan and then an update, for all of those who supported this project from the beginning will find this unfair because they already paid for the plans. If you buy a cybertruck and the pedal gets stuck or there is an update to enhance the vehicle you get that update for free as part pf the package of buying the truck, is not like you bought a cybertruck and want a model X.. same thing should apply in here, if you paidd for the original project all updates within the projects should come with it and not charge the customer update after update that's what separate a person with integrity from a person that just looks to milk every cent possible from customers.
Love the 2.0 version. I switched to the ESP's from Arduinos a while back as well and it was a great move for me, happy you all did that. Due to your popularity ,the digital plan is the only way you guys would ever be able to keep up and I know you know that and on the bright side no customer will ever loose their instructions :)
Was the old firmware a match for the esp? I just bought the original version and I was going to go with the esp if the old firmware was compatible with it.
@@shanetwogood7893 Im not sure, but I do code on both Arduino and ESP 32 and the code and libraries are different. So I would imagine you would need the ESP 32 code to run on the ESP32 . If I understood the question correctly. The logic is the same but the actual code differs. I do love the ESP 32's and really only use them now days.
Just got notice that my THC shipped. Can't wait to get that running. I see you say it's not really needed but it's like having Cragers on my old LeMans. The ol' girl didn't go any faster with shinny wheels but she sure looked good getting there! I'll be upgrading to the ESP32 Controller as soon as I get the THC working. $25 for the upgrade to V2.0 is a bargain with all the information that comes with it. I have added cooling fans to my control panel with a carbon filtered intake and color coded name plates for the aviation connectors. Still doesn't go any faster but looks really cool and it's easier to get the cables connected properly
Love what you guys are doing. I bought the Langmuir Crossfire just before they introduced their pro model and for the level/quantity of work I’m using it for, I would have gone for your setup all day long!
Just defended thesis successfully for MS EE! For grant fulfillment of the MBRACE project, we too moved from an Arduino (Nano) to an ESP32. There is simply so much more connectivity I/O and communication wise that it was a no-brainer. In addition, the DIY community is also making the transition which has so many benefits now and for the future. One thing is that the Arduino microntroller prototype boards also have breakout-boards similar to that of the ESP32 for a small cost. Remember, these are prototype boards with what most folks will need to get started. At the end of our journey, we will create a custom board that the students will stuff. Maybe your son could create such a custom board or daughter-card to make the process easier or facilitate a plug and play turn-key option. Thanks, and keep up the revisions and great service to the community.
i think this is cool seeing mulitple open source type projects moving to the esp32, congrats on your MS btw. plus the v1 engineering stuff (mpcnc and lowrider cnc) is all running on ryan's jackpot now(esp32 based)... so if a lot of the DIY folks are all running the same Sh!t then this will get way easier and cross compatible. PPL can build whichever flavor they want (JD or V1e) depending on what works for you at the time... i bought the stuff for a lowrider and built one and i'm buying the plans from JD right now... so i don't think its competitive as much as it is collaborative at this point and i'd like to think everyone agrees about this.. in a similar way to how ppl have done open source with 3dPrinting but i'm sure there are a few who don't. one thing i know is that we are probably all better off working together than we are separate. everyone stands to gain a lot from being able to afford the tools they need to bootstrap their own business.
I’m working on making a mother board to condense the electronics since my dad asked me if I could design a PCB before fall break. This might be great to do before I even start college.
Amazing product, can't wait to start building mine. As for the updates in speeds I think it has something to do with how the G code is computed. We used a lot of arduinos in school and they are finicky beasts. But I've seen where people have added raspberry pies to their 3d printers and it uncorks the printer a little bit since the computing is split up between the pie and the onboard board.
BIG THANK YOU to these guys! Fast responses ! Just ordered my 3d printed parts from them. I can do it myself BUT i want to support this channel! Great job guys!
This is a mega update. I live in Phoenix AZ, it's 110°+ consistently. I cant work in the garage that's 115°. So i was hoping to get the enclosure and electronics built and ready THEN i can build the frame in the garage. But, i'm a newb into all of this and had no point of reference for the enclosure for wire length and so on. I needed to build the frame first, then i know how long i need to make things and mount things. The enclosure update is the one i needed the most and this is exciting. I literally have all the parts, just need cooler weather to work lol but now, i can do it two stages!
Will you be doing an “electronics upgrade only” version for those with the previous version? Not criticizing, just curious as I’m got my frame built and about to start on wiring for the Arduino version. Love what you guys are doing! And can’t wait for my first cut!
I’m going to buy a set of plans soon and maybe it is explained there? I don’t see how the torch is started or if I can use my miller torch without having to buy another plasma? Thanks for offering this!!!
What an upgrade, I am definitely going to get the ESP 32 Controller instead of the Arduino I have now. What are the measurements for the electrical enclosure you are showing? Again, great work you have done. And I love the table I have made, on the basis of your plans.
I am interested in the XL version of this like many others. Is there an email list or something so I can be notified when the plans for it drop? Also, will the 3d printed parts be the same for the XL? I am literally halfway through printing them now and would like to know whether I should continue or not on them. I literally had all the items in my cart and ready to check out when I double checked to see if there was anything else I might have missed and went to check the waterbed design one more time. Glad I did.
@interstellarspacesolutions $25 bucks is a steal of a deal for the plans package. Even if one had to purchase the updated plans, think about the value you're getting! The updated controller, the itemized listing of all the pieces and parts in the control box, the added features in the control box, the updated troubleshooting G code, etc. These guys are doing a LOT of work for not much return... all of the hours to update and add links to the plans, the testing, etc. It's a HELL of a deal...
I understand the need to jump to a new plan. I recently bought the old plan and haven't built it yet. I don't mind dropping another 25 bucks for the new and improved plans. As noted by others, it's still dirt cheap for what you are getting. Having said that.......what if I buy the upgraded plans and next week JD's Garage publishes the plans for the new 4x8 table????? Will there be an upgrade price? Will that plan cost $25 also? I am guessing that will be a new product and I will again have no problem spending another 25 bucks. If the plans for the big table are more like 50 bucks, it would be nice to have an upgrade path for $25. Either way, *I'm in!*
just my 2c they should offer a 60 day grace period to offer free updated plans to anyone who purchased recently. Some of you are just super cheap though and are trying to get stuff free 😂 that's one of the major problems with selling budget options / products.
@interstellarspacesolutionsit's not at all the same. You upgrade your laptop and it costs you a new laptop. This is a redesigned and upgraded computer system. Don't like it... keep your old one and stop whining
I already bought the old version with the intention of building a larger model. I even bought an additional stepper motor and driver for it. I was about ready to 3d print the parts. I’ll skip buying this 2.0 version and look forward to buying the XL version. Any idea how long before the plans are ready for it?
Are current plan holders of the discontinued version going to be grandfathered in for the 2.0 version? I personally dont mind paying for it again, but some folks could be on a tight budget. I haven't built the machine yet but have the bought the plans and have the entire BOM in the garage.
I finished my version 1 table a while ago, already flashed the Arduino long ago. I finally got around to completing the water tray and slats, but have yet to fire this thing up (learning Fusion). My question is: Is the ESP32 still needed in my case? I went ahead and bought the 2.0 plans and ESP32 controller, I guess I'll see what else I need when I look at the 2.0 plans.
I purchased the previous version and have not completed the electrical yet. Will these new plans have the new parts listed like the box and the 32bit processor? when will the all in one be available?
Can definitely say i wanna see limit switches and a bigger base like a true 4x4 size would be great. Buying plans tomorrow and will say i have no problem buying another set of plans for a xl size as well.
Brilliant. Any recommendations to what CNC to buy? Given the cost of the project and my budget, I'd easily be inclined to aliexpress something, but is there any recommendations?
Ok one thing that you say is 350 for the electronics and steel I get prices change but using your links on Amazon in the build it's coming out to 358 just for the electronics wiring motors controllers etc. What am I missing here
Looks like a great new machine. I bought plans 2 months ago and have just started cutting steel tube for the frame after collecting all of the parts from the previous bill of materials. Do I get free access to the new plans and will any of the steel parts change or am I safe cutting all tubing and plate steel parts?
I bought the plans and 3D printed all the parts over a year ago. I have all of the parts from Amazon bought in a box too. Frame pieces are cut to length but nothing is drilled yet. From this point should I just start the plans over for the electronic portion? I need to figure out which electronic pieces I have need to be swapped out like the board you mentioned. Also I guess I was lucky because I bought the same Nema box with a clear lid. My question is how hot does it get in there with the power supply?
If this is a new product will the XL version of the table you posted on your "shorts" be a new product to? I bought the original plans 2 months ago with the intention of making the table bigger but if your going to release plans for a larger table I'm not going to purchase the updated design for the small table and then turn around and purchase plans for the big table if it gets released. So I guess my question is will the large table be apart of the updated 2.0 plans or will it have its own plans?
Ok, when I order the new plans do I replace all my motors plus the electronic controls or can I use my existing motors and replace the electronics on the new control system. I'm also interested in new control board
Using the Z axes on your plasma cnc table, have you guys concidered making a jig to convert this table into a CNC router table? And is it possible to do from your build plans?
The ESP32 is a great micro controller. Be aware there are serval different incarnations of the ESP32 which makes things confusing. I'm assuming the ones you're using are based on the Xtensa microcontroller (ESP32-WROOM-32, ESP32-S2, and ESP32-S3 should all Xtensa microcontroller). There are also versions of the ESP32 with RISCV based microcontrollers. I'm assuming these are to be avoided for this project. Also, the board that you referenced a screw terminal breakout board and not a hat. Instead of the Uno, you could have used an Arduino Nano with a screw terminal block, but the ESP32 is better for sure. Once I get some projects off the table, I'm definitely going to get the plans for this CNC table. I have a PrimeWeld CUT60 plasma cutter that I need to put to use. For the 3D printed parts, my son has a Bambu that prints great!
A forum would be awesome. The community could help answer questions, share tips/tricks, etc etc. There is nothing preventing one of us from starting a simple forum on Discord. I couldn't do it, but my friend says a quick and dirty forum would take about 10 minutes to set up in Discord, and a nice version maybe 20-30 minutes. And if the community runs it, it's one less thing JD's garage has to do. I understand their reluctance to take on another project when they are busy banging out the technical upgrades and plans.
@@kello711 HI! If you watch some of JD original videos, they actually planned on going with leadscrews but in the spirit of cost savings opted for the belt system. To answer your question, as close as possible while still building it myself as I have a couple tweaks in mind 👌
Going through the old plans, it states 4 walls for the 3D prints with a .08 nozzle. Am I correct in assuming to do 8 walls for a .04 nozzle? The reason I ask is I have multiple printers and while I could certainly print with an .08 nozzle, I would print some of the smaller items on a smaller printer. Just trying to get clarification. Thanks for the great content.
I bought the building instructions from you a few months ago and have already obtained all the parts for the electrical system, such as the Arduino uno. Will the plasma cutter still work well with the Arduino when it is finished? And is it time-consuming to convert to the new controller afterwards?
Glad to hear the documentation has been improved, boy that first set of instructions were brutal. Obviously grateful for everything Jd has done but got to call it as it is.
What you are really saying by "all digital", is that you can't print out things you need to see while out in the shop where there is no WiFi. This is a MAJOR handicap!🥴 But you don't tell people up front that everything is locked down. You just make it sound like all digital is the greatest thing since peanut butter for us, but it is just for you that this is good.😮
