Nick Taylor authorised Stack and Tilt and GOLFTEC instructor discusses probably the most important part of the golf swing which is the low point.
The low point is where the club touches the ground and it is a key separator of skill level. The best players are able to hit the ball first before the ground, however the highest handicap golfers struggle to do this with any precision.
In this video Nick shares his favourite drill to help you improve your low point control and play better golf.

Excellent exercise, efficient and very revealing. I just took a towel instead of a stick (which got damaged during exercise 😅)

I am a beginner and struggle so much with this. I’ll definitely try your drill. Thank you.

I’ve been using the tape behind the ball drill you suggested previously, placing the tape about a ball width behind the ball. . I’m starting to see great improvement in my low point control hitting foam balls in the basement. Much appreciated Nick.

This was an awesome drill! It gives immediate feedback. The only thing better would be the Milgram Experiment, where if you hit the ball wrong, you get shocked, and the current keeps going up and up. Each time you hit the stick, you get the point, so you have to adapt, you have to do whatever it takes to hit the ball first! And you demonstrated the drill great!

Thank you! I will try this drill tomorrow. Your demonstration at the beginning was me 100%, fats and thins, very little control over my low point. I'm certainly not consistent.

Tried the drill this morning. Great fun!! Hit 4 balls. The first careened off to the right (I was intimidated!) & the next three were PERFECT! I call this the Machine Gun Drill. Wears you out after 2 or 3 times through. Sort of like pumping iron!

Hi Great video! I have allways wondered about the relation between low point and attack angel .When trying to lower my AOA i tend to ony increase the low point (after)

Great vid - playing off the current wet grass is slightly more challenging as I cannot get the same distance and take a big divot!
@NickTaylorGolf

Yes grass is always harder to play from especially when wet

I like john dalys advise for low point. If you’re chunking 2” behind the ball move the ball back in the stance. 10 second fix for me Been ball impact first for years.

If anyone is having a lot of trouble with this drill, first use shoe powder and draw a straight line on the grass or mat. Do not use any golf balls. Practice low point swing hitting the ground in front of the line. I like to warm up my iron swing by drawing a line in the SAND in a bunker and doing the drill without balls. The sand shows where my low point is and I can adjust. Then move on to hitting balls.

I 've actually been swinging my club into the lightly snow covered ground ( Midwest, USA ) , trying to hit an imaginary ball, as this helps me easily see what my divot would look like.....I have noticed that my low point is too much behind the ball ...finding it difficult to correct....thanks much

I was thinking of the best drill to work on low point when hitting off a mat as the other channels talk about taking a divot. Saved to my swing tips file!!! Starting on my SnT journey and this is a perfect drill. I probably won’t go that fast.😜
@NickTaylorGolf
@NickTaylorGolf 2 года назад
Nice one Brent and no I wouldn’t recommend going that fast

Great drill Nick! Probably can't do 10 balls, maybe 4 as I'm hitting foam balls through a narrow doorway. Going to try this when I practise tommorow.

I like this video Nick. I played this back in slow motion and it seems you have a slight forward press before your backswing. Is the forward press part of the stack and tilt swing ?

Yes good spot Jack

Great drill thanks Nick. Would it be the same for Fairway woods?
@NickTaylorGolf

I would move the stick another ball back at least as slightly shallower attack angle and bigger club head

This is great - also I see in that front view that you are not over swinging in the back swing - which I think is where I lose it - and pull off the ball - then hit fat.

A lot of golfers over swing and struggle with the low point

What about for longer clubs, Nick? Would you suggest hitting driver, fairways and hybrids without any lateral motion at all? Thanks.

Yes but different setup Bruce

Great drill Nick! Would this also work for say a 5 Wood? Or would you go to a larger gap of say 4 balls not 3?
@NickTaylorGolf

You could but yes the gap needs to be wider

For me it broke the alignment stick. So it's more for people who already hit the ball very precisely.

It’s the natural geometry of the golf swing. The center of the swing is the left shoulder so if you aim straight, swing on plane and low point at left shoulder you will hit down and to the right with the ball position behind the center

This video needs deleted or amended. Low point is NOT where the club strikes the ground. Low point is the point in the swing where the clubhead is at its lowest. This will typically be right in the middle of the divot…not where the divot starts.
