Just purchased the SIM2 Max. 12 Handicap. 69y.o. with 80 mph swing speed. Hit this driver the best over Callaway & Tour Edge by 10+ yds! Accurate, too! Great review! Thanks!
Just have to say what a brilliant driver. So refreshing to have someone who doesn’t smash the driver 300yds, reviewing drivers. I’m going to have a driver fitting, as soon as I’m able, and this has definitely food for thought. Thank you so much!
Thanks for a very honest, and comprehensive review. I was going for the Ping, but now looking seriously at the Mizuno. This was definitely, the best video I've seen that separates the wheat from the chaff...thanks..
Great review and I agree that individual swing characteristics make such a big difference. I am a 12 handicap and got fitted recently for the first time and had a chance to swing every one of these same drivers. I averaged about 103 mph but due to my swing path and launch angle, after numerous shaft changes, the Callaway Epic Max was def the best for me; total distance only a couple yards behind the Taylormade Sim2 but dispersion, forgiveness and carry significantly better. Like you said differerent results for each person.
Mizuno is really uping their game... I moved from Ping irons for years to the Mizuno JPX919 forged irons last year and they are the best feeling and performing irons I’ve ever hit (handicap is 8.7). I recently was fitted for a new driver and 3Metal and looked at Mizuno driver and 3Metal extensively but decided on the Taylor Made Sim2 driver because of the distance. However, I am struggling on accuracy with the Sim2... can’t be my swing has to be the club 😉. For the 3Metal I went with Ping again in 2021 which I’ve used for years... their 3Metal is tops. But for those seriously looking at Mizuno beyond their buttery feeling irons they are a real player in the Driver and 3Metal areas. Great comparison of the seven clubs... well done.
This is the first guy I've come across as "down to earth" on his reviews. Seems honest .......but like everyone else, my opinions differ. Glad to see Mizuno make gains in their woods.....
I was in the market for new woods and tried everyone you reviewed over the space of 3 to 4 months. I also tried each one at least a couple of times. The brand that best suited me by a whopping mile was the Srixon, I hit the ball much straighter and longer. I love the look, sound and feel so I decided to buy the driver, fairway, 3 and 4 hybrid and love them. My local pro said do not go for the brand that is the most popular, most expensive or the one that spends the most on marketing to promote their brand. Try each one for a full 18 holes at least a couple of times, the one that best suits you will stand out. I cannot thank him enough because they are perfect for me and cost at least $1000 cheaper than the most expensive one. He also said the technology is the same across each brand and there is not a bad one out there these days. He said the likes of TaylorMade, Ping, Callaway etc spend billions on marking and paying pro’s to use them and that is why they cost a lot more than the likes of Srixon. So I believe you, the end user is the best judge.
TaylorMade came to my club last week and I got fitted for the SIM2, Fantastic fitting experience and my club pro matches online prices, so I got the SIM2 for £399 as opposed to £499 here in the UK Finally putting my Ping G25 to bed! Super excited, but man the wait is 6 weeks!
Great review of the 2021 drivers!!! I purchased the mizuno today after a fitting outperformed the sim & the ping for me. Would never have tried it without your review.
Hey Gabe, now that lots of these drivers are close to $200 a video comparing the Mizuno to the top model from 2022/23/2 would be awesome. See what we're actually getting for the extra $400.
I was just fitted for the Epic Max LS. For me it wasn't the longest I tried but it had the lowest spin which helped in total distance and it had the best launch angle. Best of all for me is that it was the most accurate. Also for my swing it offered the best stock shaft option for my swing(Mitsubishi MMT 70 X). Love your content. I can't believe you don't have more subscribers.
Great review for an average golfer like most of us watching. I watch it he others but they are pros who don’t play like me hahaha. I also purchased the Sim2 because I tested most of the others on your list and chose the Sim based on actual numbers. It was the most consistent speed,111-113 with a consistent 2400 or so spin with a carry of over 280! The others didn’t compare at all! They even slowed the speed and the spin was crazy! It’s the sim for the win! Good job brother! Keep up the videos!
Bravo Mizuno👏 last year I got the Ping G410 and absolutely love it so not looking for drivers this year but love to hear whats up and coming and I'm impressed with what I see, great review!
Epic speed was the one that had best feel. Balance, and sound. It was by far the one I hit most accurate. Its like my slice, is slicing as usual, but when it reaches its apex height, it quits curving, and falls straight. At first, I thought it was just my eyes, but it keeps happening. Looking like ob, then trys to fade back.
Great review... 👍...Yeah I would take the forgiveness and distance Sim2 any given day on the course. More distance ans forgiveness helps your game a lot.
@@George-on3zm game changer...it's what I've been looking for. It's very light head go well with my 70X shaft. Longer than my M5 and the miss hit are forgiving. If hit right on the center it goes even further... 👍 it's worth it.
Great Video! Very thorough and informative, not many people have access to try all these drivers in the manner that you have. So this gives people a great starting point for what they’re looking for, for their game. Great Job! Also to mention, I like that your swing speed isn’t 115 because the average golfer swings between 95-100. I/we watch other videos of basically tour swing speed players and for the average player none of their feedback is helpful in finding what’s best for the average player. I personally play a Ping G425 SFT 10.5° Aldila Rogue white 60g stiff, it is for me the most accurate driver I’ve ever hit, love it.. and just to add fyi, I play Cobra Radspeed irons, love those as well.
Great review, my son just broke my Matrix Xcon 7 shaft on my Mizuno MX500 (circa 2005) and so I just started researching and am happy to see a legit Mizuno contender. At that price, I'll have to get one, my dilemma will now be what to replace the Matrix with.....that was a long combo and is why it was in my bag for so long! Thanks again!
Very good reviewer , nice to see a more realistic golfer instead of the pro reviews you normally see . It's well worth getting custom fit if your watching any driver video though as my recent fit I found the SIM 2 to be awful and TSI 2 was miles better for me , with ping and mizuno in the middle area .
Hey man, really enjoy the videos! Your genuine approach is awesome and starting to tune in immediately when I see a video drop! Your game and mine are very similar and it’s awesome to see videos tailored around my type of game etc. I also too went with the sim 2, but the max version to help with a little more accuracy.
I just discovered your channel, great video and I of course subscribed right away. I started playing golf last year, and so far I have focused on using my (Mizuno) irons, and haven’t purchased a driver yet. I think now is the time to get started on training with a driver, and I believe your video helped me make a decision. I will definitly have to try that wonderful ST-z out 🙂
I thought for sure you would have picked the Sim 2 #1 overall. That Mizuno thou! I was suprized to hear that it had the best value. Love the classic look of it with that carbon fiber! This Mizuno for me is the best looking one of the bunch. May put this one on my list of drivers to try out when I decide to upgrade. Great review of all these bad ass drivers!
Very interesting, thanks. I just did a driver fitting the other day. I expected that I would end up with the Taylor Made or the Callaway (I'm replacing the Epic Flash Sub Zero). My swing speed is roughly the same as yours (94-95) and same handicap range (4.9 index). At the end of the day, I was 1) exhausted, 2) shocked and 3) very happy to end up with the Tour Edge C721 being #1 on the list. It outperformed every other driver I tested. I've tried Tour Edge drivers in the past, but this one is miles ahead of anything they've produced before. Definitely give it a try.
I just ordered mine today. I tested drivers with different shafts. The Fuji Venus red regular shaft 10.5 degrees was the clear winner in the Tour Edge C 721.
Nice honest review. Your swing better approximates to the average golfer. My swing speed has dropped in the last 10 years from 113 to 102-104. I was already thinking my choices lie between the Ping, Mizuno and TaylorMade Sim2 Glad you included the dispersal data. Golf clubs and courses closed at the moment here. Can’t wait to get testing.
Thanks so much. I did do a head-to-head on-course battle last week with Mizuno and Taylormade. It will give you a little bit more insight onto how they perform in real world conditions & strengths and weaknesses of each. Thanks for checking out the channel.
I just found your channel and after watching your review, I had to subscribe. I loved your presentation and insights with the testing. I have picked up the mizuno st a few times at my pro shop and loved the way it looked, but never hit it. I currently game the ping g400 and was considering purchasing the ping 425. After watching this review, I need to test those two head to head. Again thank you for an honest review. I look forward to going back through your previous videos because of the way you present and your insights. Thanks Tim
Nice Castlerock pullover, I played there a few years ago, my friend hit a shot from the heavy rough, it popped up, travelled 1 yard and the 3 of us playing could not find it. Harsh place 🤣
Great video. Fun and informative. I might add a catagory should be uniqueness. I'm a Mizuno guy, not only due to the " Nothing feels like a Mizuno " mantra, but I love that very few in my circle or the masses play with Mizuno's. In both irons and drivers. So let's keep it this way I like being the only one!!
Nice job on the review. You've given me a great place to start my search to upgrade the driver this year. Presently hit a Taylormade so it'll be interesting testing out clubs.
Got fitted for Mizuno Hot Metal Pro's, last year, and just love them. I have always played TaylorMade drivers (and irons), but I am now excited to test drive the Mizuno driver. I also have a Mizuno Clk 4 hybrid (22 degrees) and the ball just flies off it when I make good contact (caveat there). It sends the ball the same distance as my old 19 degree Taylormade 3 hybrid. This may not be fair to the Taylormade, as my Mizuno is newer technology. I'm now considering getting a Mizuno 19 degree, but then it would probably render my 5 wood useless, as I suspect it might hit as far as that one. Thanks for the informative video.
Thanks man that confirms it for me got a club fitting 15th this month my swing speed 96 mph 5ft 6 play off 7 handicap 3months ago was 4.8 but had clubs stolen so played with 2nd hand set er no hence club fitting so hopefully be back down to 4.8 or better keep up the good work 👍
great video, its great to see a regular guy review. I'm a 15 hcp league player using a TM M6 DRIVER, EPIC FLASH 3 WOOD, AND COBRA forged tech irons. so I'm not brand loyal either, I play whatever suits my game. I generally drive from 275-290 on good hits, forgiveness is what I need so I might try out the ping or sim 2 thanks for a great review.
I own most known brands except Ping/Mizuno drivers and switch around to get a feel for “the one” that gives me less trepidation and actually confidence to shape the hit right or left depending on the trajectory I needed....distance be dammed.....the Cleveland HB 9.0 460 head with a Miyazaki shaft was the very best and most consistent every time
Thank you for the reviews and for enlightening me to choose the Mizuno STX which for my swing blew all the others out of the water although I also liked the Cobra rad speed XD... The pro that fit me without telling me beforehand was also glad I chose it based on the sound of contact alone and also the smash Factor it produced maxing out at 1.51. for me this club has it all... comfort distance forgiveness accuracy price is a bonus thank you again...
Appreciate adding the value category. $150 difference with very tight performance is a big deal. Also the Ping and Cobra do come with Arccos which to me is big deal. Without question the best overall stat for 99% of users would be SGA - Arccos does that best. Given he distance plus dispersion I would guess SGA for you would be the Mizuno. Be interesting if you did put both in you bag and track SGA with both drivers. Love your format, putting together some great videos.
Value category was suggested by some folks on my other video. I’m so glad they did because it really tipped the scales for me. Great point about the Arccos grips. That’s a big value-add indeed. Honestly, my 3 wood is my poorest performing club so if I can’t find a good replacement this season, I very well might carry both drivers.
Not sure the difference between accuracy and forgiveness. For me they are too similar to create different categories? Good stuff here. While I love the reviews from the guys who carry it 290+, that’s not my world. 95-100 MPH swing speed has different needs. Happy I stumbled across this. Subscribed. And getting fit on Monday. Rad and 425 are on my short list. Will give Sim2 a look after seeing this-I have to get over my TM blind spot.
I love the “average schmo” review! I’ve got a 2017 M1 that Peter Finch just beat his new Sim2 in a test... I can’t get past 255-260 on a perfect swing.
Nice review, quick and efficient. Good for me because my clubhead speed is similar to yours and at age 68 this helps. I would have liked to hear your comments on dispersion and cost of each club but thats the only issue I would have with your review. Thank you!
Thanks for the reviews. We appear to have similar games. I'm 62 and balancing between distance and accuracy. This very timely for me and I'm considering most of the drivers tested. The Mizuno was a surprise even though I play their irons. Getting fitted in late March. Will let you know. Thanks
Awesome and thank you !! Amazing in that I was “hopeful” for a great review for Mizuno driver as I hit some older jpx850 irons. I love my irons and thought ; “I wonder how their drivers are”.?? Thank you as I’ll look to upgrade my irons with the new jpx graphite irons (in steel now) and this new beautiful Mizuno driver !! I’m excited ; thank you!!
I've just replaced my Taylormade M6 irons with some graphite shafted Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal irons and the difference is night and day - at least for me. I love them and as a result am now contemplating a Mizuno driver (I'll never part with my M6 3 wood, that's just too good)
You reaffirmed my decision to go with the Sims 2 I’m looking for distance. I’m currently swinging the Ping 425 have not liked how light it feels and sound and feel at contact.
