BEST EPISODE IN YEARS! Doctor Who 1x7 *The Legend of Ruby Sunday* Reaction! 

Just to clarify for those who don't watch the entire discussion at the end of the video. I recorded an extra bit after finding out that sutekh is a classic who villain and that he is voiced by the same actor as the beast from impossible planet/ satan pit!

This is just so unfortunate that you’re nowhere near close to the story that Sutekh first appears in in the Classic Series. But still a genuinely good episode this was.

With the not being able to see her face and 73 Yards it's worth mentioning that they also say the CCTV camera was 66 meters from the church in this episode which seems oddly specific and 73 Yards is coincidentally 66.75 meters

Russell said he's no longer giving sci-fi explanations for gods. Classic Who had more unexplained gods but then New Who decided to give pseudo-science explanations for everything.

You being 2 years old when NuWho returned in 05 gave me a more uncomfortable reality check than when Ruby said she was born in 04 lol.

Sutekh is a villain the 4th Doctor and Sarah Jane faced in the amazing classic who story "the Pyramids of Mars".

I just watched the episode. I got excited when Susan was mentioned, but I’m pretty sure the first doctor left her behind in like year 2300. At one point when Susan said she had dreams, I thought that her true identity was hidden inside a watch (like in series 3).

Ruby must be Horus reincarnation. Horus, Egyptian god with the power of the sun rays. Ruby Sun-Day, just as Horus who defeated Sutekh in the ancient Egypt almost 3.000+ years ago. Actually, Ruby's age as shown in Boom is 3082 years.

Hopefully we find out who Ruby actually is next week. I’ve seen a lot of comments on videos guessing that Ruby will end up being the child of Sutekh, and that one while I find her being his child a bit far fetched, I do have a feeling that she may be related to him in some way. I mean the expanded canon states that Sutekh had a brother, his brother did have a child who Sutekh tried to murder but failed after the mother took the child and hid it. Sounds a tiny bit like how Rubys story seems to have went. But then again, there is a chance that it was done on purpose that way, especially after the many teases from this episode. Definitely need to find out what is up with Mrs Flood though. Her little “we don’t always get what we want” speech did make me laugh though

So, where's 14 then? Yeah, he's 'retired' and whatever else and knows 15 is out there, but you're telling me he just willingly sits by when this massive threat is on Earth? Especially with it being TARDIS centric. come on. No way he just leaves 15 to sort everything himself

Sutekh 70 years later

What a fantastic episode. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought Sutekh might be returning but I still felt the shock factor. I feel hugely empathetic towards Susan Triad; it seems that Sutekh completely used and possessed a very ordinary, very nice woman. Harriet's harbinger speech was bloody terrifying. Who is Mrs.Flood? She seemed evil here but there's just enough ambiguity, I think, to turn that around again. What if Flood is Susan and comes to save the day? But, only after letting her grandfather suffer with Sutekh a little bit for abandoning her!? She certainly seems to be a timelord since she spoke about "hiding away" in a way that mirrored the doctor's explanation of regeneration to Ruby. Sutekh has rubies in his head. I really hope for Ruby's sake that she's not Sutekh's child 😅 In answer to your great question about why they were being so happy about going back in time, I think the doctor was just trying to be positive to protect and support Ruby for whom, he knew, the experience could be traumatic.

He left Susan on Earth in the aftermath of a Dalek Invasion in the future, married to one of the rebels, and about to rebuild Earth society - so she would have had to travel back in time to be around in present day Earth.

(spoilers) - on the DVD for the story, this Classic villain is from, there is a wacky parody, where S****** is still existing in our world, yet time has mellowed, and the powerful-being is now a Milkman,....who delivers to local British houses "the gift of milk" rather than death. 😏

Ms. Flood is being set up to be a Time Lord, possibly The Rani. The clunky "I'm always hiding myself away" comes right after 15 explains that regeneration can be used to "hide away".

The explanation for the "god" character, in the case of Sutekh is that they are actually aliens but super powerfull, they've been on earth many times and the egyptians took they lore as a religion, also, he liked to be presented as a god

Sutekh IS Satan from The Impossible Planet, they're linked and are one and the same, originally Sutekh is a villain from classic Who but as The God of all Gods Satan is something to do with him, not to mention it's the same voice actor

9:26 If you think about it from Ruby’s perspective, she’s been given hope that she’ll finally be able to know who her birth mother is and so understandably would be excited and joyful about it, especially as Ruby is that kind of person, glass half full. So to see that hope crushed was really heartbreaking.

Sutekh is an Osiran from the world Phaester Osiris. He was paranoid that something would evolve that could replace his might or destroy him, and he then decided to destroy all life to prevent that. He was eventually entombed in Ancient Egypt by 740 of his fellow Osirans led by Horus, and that sets up the events for Pyramids Of Mars.

@MurkMovies Sutekh is a Major call back to Classic Who (4th Doctor) Egyptian God also known as The Destroyer nearly killed the 4th Doctor(Tom Baker) and Jane Smith.

I'm a classic Who guy, and you asked, so: Sutekh is the most awe-inspiring villain of the Doctor Who franchise bar none. He is an immortal god of almost unlimited power and is pure evil taken to its logical conclusion. He doesn't want anything but himself to live and sees every other being in existence as inferior. He doesn't raise armies or give orders. He inhabits and puppets other beings, destroying them at will when they cease being useful. Scary dude. Excited to see where his return goes.

The Beast that was featured in that episode with David Tennant was an ancient and destructive creature, yes, and it was considered to be a God by some, but The Doctor didn't fear it as much as he fears Suteckh. He knows how dangerous Suteckh - also known as Set - can be.

Ruby is Susan and used the thing to make her human and forget she’s a time lord like the doctor done in series 3 with the fob watch. The person who dropped ruby/susan off on Xmas eve is Susan but the original Susan so ostensibly she’s dropping herself off 🤷🏻‍♂️🙈😂 or something around the lines. Ruby’s mother will be the doctors daughter jenny who is now the kind woman regenerated from original jenny 🤷🏻‍♂️ either that or original Jenny will return. Just a guess and then what if ruby dies and then regenerates into new companion varada the actress from boom. And similar to capaldi choosing the face of guy from fires if pompeii as a reminder who he is.

Great episode which ramped up the tension. You will enjoy the Sutekh classic who story. Good Horror story which scared the hell out of me as a 12 year old. The actor Gabriel Woolfe has such a creepy voice. Long live the bro!

I believe the Satan from Satan pit is essentially the same thing as Sutekh. Granted, they aren't the exact same entity but they are both the "truth behind the myth". The horned beast is the thing that inspires the Christian depiction of sin, and its stated that other planets have similar depictions. Sutekh, therefore, is the truth behind the God of Death Set in Egyptian mythos

Dude watch classic doctor who

A lot of misdirection in the episode. I had managed to avoid big spoilers though, so was largely in the dark. At first, I was thinking it was definitely alluding to the Beast from the Satan Pit. When other possibilities (some more classic references) were eliminated and they started listing alternate names, I was a 95 percent (96?) sure it was Sutekh a few seconds before the episode revealed it. For me that is always the mark of good writing, when a regular viewer can pick something up just before it is presented in story. Like you, I'm really hoping the finale helps give some context to WTF was going on in 73 yards.

The fourth Doctor was scared of nothing but he was of Sutekh so when the Toymaker in The Giggle said the one who waits was the only one he feared I instantly thought of Sutekh. Thankfully I just presumed I was over thinking. Ps seen the Tom Baker era over and over again so I tend to link a lot back to his time.

I think it's cool Sutekh is back but it's also kind of funny. You can tell RTD is showrunner again because this is nostalgia bait for fans of the 70s. They used to do this all the time in the 00s when 70s Who was the most loved era but in the 2020s? Not so much anymore, which is totally fine, it's just amusing to see him continue to play off his own era of nostalgia as a fan in the way we'd have gotten every other week in 2007 or whatever. It was always a little surprising they didn't use Sutekh in the 00s simply because Pyramids of Mars is up there with Genesis of the Daleks and Talons of Weng-Chiang as stories that in the 00s were the common "best ever" picks.
