As we get older, its so much easier to maintain it than to obtain it. Aging is not all bad news, I am still finding progress even though I am getting older, the key for me is the strategy changes over time away from pure effort to more about recovery. I still push myself, but recovery is crucial - I get more out of improving sleep, diet, or finding a new recovery method for muscles than I do from doing "more" work like what worked in my youth. If you have maintained your body your likely already at a high level, there is no reason to kill yourself anymore, it is time to be smart with pushing within limits and make sure your recovering properly - if not back off and recoup.
