Fanatec just released a whole bunch of new stuff in the last 24 hours - Pretty much all matching my predictions in this video thankfully. The written guide has been updated to include all the latest updates! - boostedmedia.net/sim-racing/buyers-guides/fanatec-wheel-guide-best-fanatec-wheels-in-2021/
Dear Boosted media, i have a question sinds i,m new into fanatec. I have pre orderd the steeringwheel formula V2.5 it’s compatible with pc+ PlayStation. Only all wheelbase are pc+ x-box. Is this stil compatible with eachoter or can YOU play on both consoles now? Hope YOU can clear things out for me. Love the video’s..
@@boostedmedia Mate now the formula2.5 is out and it comes with magnetic shifters. it is cheaper than the GT3 wheel with metal quick release & 3rd party metal shifters. So on actual wheel which his better would you say?
@@olivierfritzen2749 they have 2 wheels and one is out of stock (at the moment), with the only one in stock being the price of csl elite, with a load cell and the csl dd + the boost pack.
I'm one of those new people to the Fanatec ecosystem. I just bought the 2021 F1 wheel. Now I just need to wait for the CSL DD and new CSL pedal reviews to see what I should buy to put with it.
@@benjamincowie7140 Yeah, I know Will got one early and I'll be checking his review first. I hope Barry at SRG got one also as I love his reviews also.
Great videos! Thanks. I had an accident a little over a year ago which gave me some nerve damage in my left hand. Bottom line was no more X-Box for me. I decided to build a racing rig and your videos really helped me figure out the basics. I opted for the Club sport bundle with Wheel Base v2.5, formula v2 wheel, v3 pedals, and v1.5 shifter. I have this all mounted on a GTR GTA-Pro rig with triple 34" monitors. This much fun shouldn't be legal! Thanks again!!!
One thing I found worth mentioning is that the endurance button module is also compatible with the universal hub. Maybe it's just me but the video made it seem like it's only compatible with the podium hub. So that makes even more available combos when combining wheels and modules. Other than that great video! Very helpful considering the confusing fanatec line-up.
A ton of useful information in your videos for somebody who has a slight interest in this type of thing but has so many questions. For instance, I had no idea that's how PS and Xbox compatibility worked with Fanatec's stuff but it's great to know.
you always on point, the new wheel looks sick... im kinda disappoint on the CSL DD I need PS4/5 compatibility since I compete on GT Sport online but still is a game changer, waiting for your review.
If you're not a native English speaker, slow down the video to 0.75x and he will sound like a normal person. You're welcome! Awesome video, thanks for the review!
The biggest problem with the Endurance Button Module isn't even the price. It's the fact it's physically incompatible with almost any wheel other than the Porsche one. Most of Fanatec's own rims, let alone third party or real car wheels, clash with the button placement, unless you add quite a large spacer between the module and the rim. It's a really strange gap that Fanatec have left here, not providing some alternative, or making the Endurance compatible with more wheels. In particular, they don't sell a flat, round wheel that's compatible with it. Really odd.
The biggest difference between the 918 and the BMW is, that the Porsche wheel is much lighter than the BMW on the outside. You realy feel the difference with weaker bases like the CSL and CSW bases.
Thank you for the comprehensive guide of the wheels Will! Waiting to see what changes they might do for the CSW/podium line since it has been out of stock for a long time and new products coming up. Interestingly, Fanatec decided to sell the new Limited Edition F1 2021 wheel with the Podium paddle module with only a price difference of USD 30.
Would’ve liked some more closeup shots as you’re going through each wheel! Was Left wanting to see some more details haha. Otherwise thanks for the comprehensive review 👍🏻
Would love a Porsche 911 Podium-compatible rim (that can attach to the existing BME) that is a half-wheel design for GT3. Similar dimensions as the McLaren GT3 wheel.
It would be nice a guide about pedals. I'm really prone to buy A Fanatec V3 inverted (with Brake Performance Kit + Throttle Damper), but at a not much higher price there is Heusinkveld...
Great in breaking down the complexities not typically understood well! I prefer GT style wheels and driving but don’t understand the R300 diameter rim that Will prefers, especially with high torque capability of DD1/2. Will sites “control” as the reason. Okay, but there are other ways to address that, eg. sensitivity. My standard wheel is 350mm flat aftermarket leather rim used with BME, podium hub, clubsport magnetic paddle module and [F1] DD1. And for those classic cars pre ‘70s, I switch to a 380 mm rim on podium hub. I love the bigger rims!
A tad outdated nowadays since most wheels now come with the qr1 and magnetic shifters. Before buying everyone should surely read the discription twice to make sure you know exactly what comes with the wheel and what compatibility you'll have.
your dead on . I have the same set up that you so love.. And very happy with the set up .. I spent like 70 USD more , but I didn't like the 320 mm they have with the bundle . I just felt that the 320 was to big IMHO . thank you for confirming my mind set.. nice vid.. thanks
Maybe the upcoming QR 2.0 option is the reason for the ''shortage''. I hope there gonna be 2 hub versions, would be a waste if you have to buy the podiumhub with the QR1.
Hey Will! Nice video buddy 🙌🏻! Could you the same but for pedals, something like a rank or so? Also would be awesome if you could review HPP JBV :) I would like to know your opinion on that.
I have both the McLaren wheel and the WRC wheel. The McLaren wheel is amazing, but oddly enough the WRC wheel is my main rim at the moment. The WRC rim more versatile due to its shape. When I want to run non GT3 or Formula cars, I use the WRC. And if I want to jump into a GT3 just to try it out, the WRC wins again. I would like for Fanatec to make a new CSL series wheel thats round, and has similar functionality of both the McLaren and WRC wheels. That would be awesome!
I've had almost all of these wheels and the McLaren with the metal QR1 was perfect for the 8nm DD Pro Base just sold it and went DD2 with Porsche 911rim had to have the endurance button module more than anything will probably buy a aftermarket 300mm rim to use it for formula cars also
I have the BMW GT2 rim and I find no issue rallying or drifting with it. This may be because when I move my hands around the rim I don't slide my hands but just release and grab at a different location. The D style is also not very pronounced on this rim and it has never negatively affected my driving. It is a fairly heavy rim as he pointed out.
Definitely agree. More than capable for drifting and rallying, while obviously not the perfect wheel for it. Compared to buying a hub with a separate round wheel it's definitely a cheap all rounder option.
There is a huge difference between the plastic and metal quick release. The plastic one is unreliable and in my case at least was unusable as it disconnected every 20-30 minutes. No problems with the metal quick release.
Yeah I don't really understand the youtubers talking up the new plastic QR1. It's horrible, creaks horribly and feels extremely unsafe at 8nm. I've upgraded my two wheels to the metal QR1 and with the retention screw I can now drive silently.
Awesome video! I never realized you could replace the rim of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Podium combo with the smaller R300 rim. I did some research and some people find the R300 a bit too small for the Endurace button module (leaving little room for the thumbs?). Do you find this a problem? Or do you have videos where you talk a bit more about this combo? Thanks a lot!
Having owned a Formula F1 Limited (silver) myself for three years, I wouldn't recommend the open design on the bottom again. Especially in summer when temperatures are up the thing is flexing and making noises like crazy, you feel like you use a plastic toy all the time and you are definately getting slower on track because it is quite disturbing if you can't fully trust the wheel. The closed design of the Formula Carbon or the new Formula V2.5 is way better and funnily enough cheaper too. My thought is that Fanatec still had a lot of the "open design" plates in stock which is why they had to make a last limited run of "F1 2021 wheels" before fully switching back to the closed design again, which they had since the very first Formula Rims.
So now the CSL DD Wave 1 is up along with pre-orders for their V2 of all their rims and V2.5 for the Formula, but they're all slated for October! I find that super odd as I now can't just grab a DD1 now along with a non-F1 rim...they aren't even coming with the QR2 so it's not like that's the delay either.
Ok, love the channel and learned a lot. I'm going to upgrade to a DD base and new wheel but I do mostly Nascar oval, some dirt ovals, and road courses with the Nascar stuff. I know, I know, not what you're doing mostly, but I don't think I want a big 350+ wheel. I have the G29 now and wondering you'd recommend for an all-around wheel?
Sadly, in F1 2021 fuel mix change won't be available anymore. despite that, the thumb rotery encoders can be used for things like differential and brake bias instead so they are still very useful. I'm looking for a GT wheel but I don't like branded wheels. I don't want it to say porsche or BMW. I just want it to say Fanatec. I'll be using it primarily for GT/non-racing games where a wheel is used. I already have a carbon v2 formula rim for Formula cars. I guess that'd be a custom combo.
Went from Formula V2 to Formula Carbon to GT3 V2. The GT3 V2 is by far the best of the lot IMHO. I could not get on with the Formula V2, just too small for all the controls. However, with the GT3 V2, the metal quick release is essential with the DD1. The simplified one just does not work properly on that base.
I hope you can do a full price comparison between the new CSL 8nm and the M10 like for like, eg Porsche wheel, mount brackets etc Vs the M10 gt1 package I feel these will be close competition but likely the fanatech eco system will make it a clear choice even at 2nm less. Cherrs
Hi Will. Clear analysis of the Fanatec "Rim madness"😊. I have a porsche 918 rim (the leather brownish) and I am quite annoyied by the weakness of the shifter springs. Any idea how can I improve them?
I have the 911 podium rim and the blue F1 rim and have never once used the tuning menu via the wheel, despite spending a heap of time tuning via the fanalab software. Your focus on the lack of a tuning menu on the podium hub without the BME is unwarranted
Good afternoon To all Thank you for your amazing videos and your information Which are the better tuning set up for podium racing F1 for PlayStation and that you can feel everything all the race? Thank you very much for your time my regards to everybody
Hi, i like your videos. Learn a lot of them. Maybe an idea to do something similar for simucube 2? I struggle to find information on what to buy. What is best for vr? which quick release system? should I make wheels myself etc etc? There is a lot of information floating around but can't find a "buyers guide for simucube 2 wheels". Thanks, justin
When are you going to review the dd .5 we know you'll be getting a review sample just really excited to see it as I'm looking to buy one to replace my g920 and I already have the v3 pedals
Fanatec needs to improve their website. You reach the end of the configurator and it only states your setup is for PC, even though the components are tagged as ps/Xbox. This causes a lot of confusion for sure, and lost sales.
Good morning everybody I wish you a happy Sunday I am looking to buy gloves and socks for my podium f1 and because you are an expert and I am a beginner please can you guide me which are the best to buy? Thank you very much my regards to all of you
Hey boosted, so I’ve been wanting to get a bigger deep dish style wheel to drift with and have been looking at the nascar universal hub bundle for my csl elite but noticed how you said If a wheel is too heavy it dampens the feel, if it bothers the club sport base do you think I should stay away from it for my csl elite?
Boosted Media: releases video about best fanatec wheels* Fanatec the same day: : Im about to end this man's whole carrer" Also Fanatec: Releases limited edition clubsport f1 wheel with podium paddles for 400 euro
@@boostedmedia Yeah especially when it's limited. But i think that if someone is looking for a fanatec wheel in this price point it's a good choice considering the fact that it costs 400 euro for basically a clubsport v2 with podium paddles for 150 euro less
@@ukaszczajka4326 found out about it the after it had sold out. Gutted as im in the market for the csl dd and will need a wheel. It would have been perfect.
As far as I know, everything is out of stock with fanatic or no longer listed on their site. There CSL or the Clubsport belt drive base units are no longer even listed on the website. They only have 1 product available now and that's the dd2. The rest isn't available. The new mini DD isn't available until the end of November but can place a pre-order now.... Essentially all they sell at the moment is wheels and pedals as it stands. Not sure if we will see the Clubsport base come back again? I assume they have halted production removing it from the website? We really need other companies to get involved with producing sim racing kit because as it stands we can't get anything in the UK. Unless we want to pay big money for a second-hand kit with no warranty often costing more than it did new because sellers know that this kit is no longer obtainable.
Are there any plans to make the DD Pro Rim available for the DD1. The rim is said to be much easier to use for GT3 / GT4 racing plus has all the custom features for GT7 so I think you could sell lots test to existing PS4/5 DD1 for PS users.
Nice informative video Will, very welcome. I bought the DD1 F1 package for Playstation, and do Sports racing mostly, so I ordered the Porsche GT3 automatically. What a mistake! It is a boat anchor or very expensive paperweight! Not worth the money at all. Its HEAVY, SLOW to MOVE, too big at 320mm. Thought I will sell the blue F1 wheel, now thats my favourite for everything. Fanatec needs a high quality, 300mm,round, light bundle, for SPORTS RACERS. Just my true opinion. Keep up your great vids.
If you take the McLaren GT3 V2 wheel for example, how do I choose between the xbox or the pc version? In pictures the pc version has cooler buttons with DRS etc. written directly beneath the button instead of the xbox buttons.
Hi. Can I use analog pads at every Fanatec wheels if I want in PC Win11 race games? (I can use my hands only to drive) There showing wheel base with analog pads in the picture.
Main thing I noticed from the pictures on the Fanatec web site say for the ClubSport Steering Wheel Porsche 911 GT3 R V2 for Xbox (Leather) bundle is combining the podium endurance button module with the clubsport universal hub it seems the podium button module when mounted overlaps or covers some of the wheel setting control buttons on the universal hub making them not accessible hence cancelling out that function of the universal hub when those two products are paired together. Are those pictures accurate and is that actually the case?
You definitely should mention that some of those wheels' features don't work on the xbox side of things, such as rev-lights, LED-panels, rotary dials etc. bcause Fanatec has not made an SDK for xbox. So don't buy the McLaren GT3 hoping to use all those cool switches on the xbox one or xbox series X, because THEY WON'T WORK!!! otherwise a great video!
What would you say the best wheel is for GT Sport? As, Fanatec have this major issue where they don't know whether to cater to the intermediate price range, or the high-end price range. Their pricing is VERY weird, with massive gaps when it comes to the cost of each of their products. I'm not a fan of them getting rid of the 'CSL Elite', as that should've been their entry/flagship product into their range. I don't like the fact you now have to pay £350 for the DD base and it doesn't even come with a basic wheel like what was in the 'CSL Elite' bundle. They seriously need an entry-level product.
I ordered the formula v2.5 for ACC And still looking for a round wheel for drifting/rally Do you think the formula 2 wheel would be bad for gt3/4 racing? Sadly I ordeered them before watching your video
Just grabbed the F1 2021 LE Wheel! Not sure if I should wait for the CSL DD or go all out on a DD2. I could order a DD2 with another rim but there's only really the Porsche or some basic D shaped rims in-stock it seems.
@@boostedmedia appreciate the hard work! I'm in the notification squad waiting for the video! I'm just worried that my GT Omega Wheel stand will be much too weak for a DD but I can't afford a full upgrade from a G920 to a DD and a full cockpit too :/
Is there a reason to get a D style wheel in a sim rig other than looks and authenticity? (not saying those aren't good enough reasons I'm just curious)
