🤔 Maybe NC’s best free camping location?!
🏕 If you’re looking for a great location to get off grid and go camping in North Carolina, Brown Mountain Recreation Area is the perfect spot. The campground has about 8 different campsites of varying sizes for tent, group and RV camping. For those RV camping be aware that only 2 or 3 of the sites are large enough for an RV over 35 ft (luckily we got one).
💦 The campsites are right along the creek and very spacious with a tent pad, picnic table and fire pit. Sites are decently spaced out for privacy. We were able to relax and hang with friends who camped with us for 3 days. The best part was the exploring all the different waterholes! Not only did our campground have a small waterfall leading into a fairly large swimming hole, but less than 10 minutes away in Wilson’s Creek which has several accessible spots to swim.
The campsites are first come first serve with no power or potable water. Good news though, there is an outhouse. If you’re RV is self contained you’ll be in great shape. The campground does has a 14 day limit. Pretty much zero cell phone coverage at the campsites but we got a few bars at the Recreation Area entrance just up the road.
