i know Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
Had a real bad accident years ago. Dr. asked me what brand of helmet i was wearing, to which I replied "why?" He said "because it saved your life": The bucket was an HJC and it took a real shit kicking, but did it's job. 14 years later, HJC is the only helmet I'll ever wear, period.
I managed to get my head under a coach wheel back in 87 which shook me up a little before the helmet (and head in it) was spat out leaving me still conscious and jumping to my feet to avoid other traffic, AGV and like you I've never bought any other since.
Thats stupid. Its like saying: "one time i tried spicy cheese and it was so good that i dont eat anything else" there are alot of good cheese out there mate.
Great job on all of your videos. I just want to add that your reviews has influenced a lot of my gear and bike as I am a returning rider on an eighteen year hiatus. Keep up the great work.
RPHA 70 comes with a sun visor and emergency release. Also has better ventilation. I got this instead of the GT Air cause it also fit better on my head. I am very happy with it and saved 150 euros as well! The GT Air was something like 450 euros here!
@@FortNine oh how gloriously did this comment age. Your motorcycle reviews are works of art. I love them so much that I am like a PR agent for fortnine now sending the link to videos to all the people I can annoy. Keep up the good work Ryan. Cheers
I have the Icon Variant Thriller and the Bell Vortex & RS1(down a rung and up one) I agree completely with the Variant being surprisingly good on the freeway and flowing good amounts of air, plus it goes on sale often ($150 for Thriller!). The Bells are very comfortable and the RS1 isn't very loud, but the Vortex is the loudest helmet I've ever owned (out of 10~ish). Can't wait to try an RHPA 10 or 11!
Had an RPHA 10 Plus (Pro in the USA) previously. A superbly awesome helmet, even though it didn't fit my head shape 100%. Excellent quality, light, snug, works with you and you don't even feel like you're wearing a helmet. I can't comment on buffeting as I was on a naked bike at the time, but even then, get into a tuck and you immediately know that this is what it was made for. Had a Shoei X-Spirit 2 and now have a Bell Star Carbon. While these are great helmets, the RPHA 10+ brings something different to the table and for a lot less. I know many people look down on HJC as being a cheap brand but the only thing cheap about them are their prices. They have a diverse range of helmets at different price points, and are really worth a look at.
Great comprehensive review. Research has shown that a helmet's price doesn't correlate with protection, so I bought the Qualifier two years ago and couldn't be happier. It's definitely loud, but the rest is, as mentioned, excellent. As a side note, the shield mechanism is loud and rough in the beginning, but it gets _much_ smoother over time (without becoming loose). Mine is very easy to operate one handed, and has nice, clean, positive feedback. I compared it with a worn-in, entry level HJC and the Bell's feels significantly higher quality.
I also own a qualifier, and mine is ECE rated. there seems to be a mixup on which qualifiers are DOT or ECE rated. wind noise: very high, high enough to cause ringing after a freeway run especially from the small vents in the back, which would cause a whistle, so I silicone glued them closed, which cut a decent amount of noise. the shield was very loud at first as well, but mine also quieted down. the chin-bar vent does very little to prevent fogging. I seem to have an issue with fitting helmets for going full-tuck, so I'm limited there, but theoretically the helmet does fine, better when I wear my alpinestars leather jacket that has a low cut collar. comfort is great, and the top vents are very good for the summer.
Great review! I've not heard of the Qualifier, but the Bell Vortex is pretty similar by the looks of things. That's the one I own, in the Flack blue color. Great helmet, but also extremely loud. Unnecessarily so. Can't ride without earplugs. Besides that, the feature set-for-price ratio is why I bought it.
I'm a new rider, just got my license today! When I bought my helmet, I had one picked out from doing research online. Reality hit when I went into the store and tried it on. It felt terrible when I wore it. I ended up with an Arai XD4, not because I plan on doing adventure riding, but because it was the one that fit me well. I wear an xxl, so maybe that had something to do with the difficulty I had in finding a comfortable helmet.
I tried an HJC many years ago. It was a nice helmet, but caused a wicked hot spot on my forehead after an hour or so of riding. Shoeis never did that, and I've bought them for decades for their quiet and comfort. Wait until the end of the season clearance sales and they get reasonably priced too. FTR, I've crashed and ruined a Shoei and an Arai and neither one of those accidents caused me any head injury whatsoever. The rest of me is another story... One thing that would have been interesting is a review of the peripheral vision. Shoei recently revised some of their lids to improve that aspect.
Thanks for your expertise and outstanding analysis. I own a Gt-Air and I have to say, even though I'm ok with it, you made me feel like trying this HJC ! Keep up the good work !
I wear a Qualifier. I have a long oval head shape and it is the most comfortable fit I have ever worn. I think it is ECE as well as DOT. But yes on the loud. I should wear ear plugs on long trips. After 200 miles on the interstate my ears are ringing.
Personally i always check SHARP safety ratings of helmets. RHPA 10 (10 plus) has like 3/5, no thank you. Just bought an AGV GT Veloce... for 250 euros (283$) which is 5/5 :) Bit more confidence inspiring :D
sharp testing is a very good way to know if a helmet i really safe, if does not score at least 4/5 general score just dont bother with that helmet, i have a shark with 4/5 and agv corsa 5/5 ^^
I like SHARP but 1) They only test UK-version helmets and 2) They do their testing based on UK crash stats which are quite a bit different than US crash stats. I check their site now and then but I never know if the Shoei sold in the US is the same exact lid as the Shoei sold in the UK. Maybe this is the wrong way to think about it but that's what I wonder about.
My Bell Qualifier helmet is DOT & ECE certified. Not sure if you just missed it or it changed since the video. My matte black version is also only $109...sick insane value
the alpha helmet is amazing, I love it. and I got mine for 135.00, helps to work for a shop. But we are selling them for 249.99 and that's still a deal.
Warmth / cooling, noise isulation, etc. These are the things a helmet review should address in the most detail, because most everything else can be figured out by reading the product page.
At first I didn’t like this dude thought he was annoying but he’s a good dude to get advice from, these reviews are very unbiased and blunt unlike revzilla which you can tell they got paid for their top 5 best helmets lol
I think different people suit different manufacturers in terms of fit. For me Shark are the perfect fit. And a very good price too, it you know where to shop.
Great videos, I'm a subscriber. One critique is that your title is misleading. These are your favorite helmets not necessarily the best. I understand this topic can be very subjective. The Shoei X-14 released in 2016 is arguably one of the best full face helmets of 2016. I think you nailed it with your tire series. Either way keep up the great content.
There is a reason HJC is cheaper compared to Japan made brand , I own an Rpha Max Evo , in less than 3 years , 60k km I ride all year around and live in the tropics , the visor has shown fine cracks , rapid fire system broke on weekly visor removal basis. Compared this with my Multitec which I owned for 5 years , has no such issues. Same torture , no compromise
Do a review for quietest full face helmets. Most helmets are great at head protection but hearing protection is as important. The GT-Air and S2 are good but nearly good enough. The Sena Smart helmet looks good but when will it be available....August 2016...that blows. Not to mention the Sena is made in China and that blows too.
I like your straight fwd reviews of these helmets. Someday I plan to buy one & my first beginners motor bike. SOMEDAY. One thing I've learned So far about riding motorcycles from the videos I've watched, 🏍 is wind noise. Had no idea it was such a problem.
Christofer Riche not a primary problem though, use earplugs or earspeakers (f9 got another video on that) livining the in the motorcycle world makes you a survivor
I tried the RPHA line up as well as the Shoei GT Air and I came to the conclusion that the Shoei Air is definitely better. Although the RPHA does offer more bang for buck.
Good info on helmets! I would not have considered those you reviewed. Currently riding a Shoi RF1100, like it, but looking for the next great thing. Keep up the good work.
I just bought a kabuto airoblade3. It was the ONLY helmet that didnt hurt my ears, and i could put my glasses on AND its pretty quiet. Light as a feather too. Feels MUCH lighter than the AGV K3 sv its replacing and sooo much lighter than my hjc max2 modular its not funny. I looked at the bell qualifier. It was $200 (im in 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👍🏿👍🏿) . I got my kabuto for $199 on special (retails for 430). For that i got a helmet that actually fit properly, has the snell cert AND ece AND austnz certification. So basically twice the helmet for the same money. And (can you believe this?) its the only green helmet i could find . It matches my kawasaki almost perfectly. Funny theyre THE green machine but noone makes helmets to fit that ethos.... Btw the venting is excellent. It blows a gale inside. Far superior to the agv and the hjc well...ive seen it said the venting on that is outstanding...compared to what? My 1985 Arai Racevent had better ventilation. Its pathetic. Nope gotta flip the lid or crack the visor. I get no air at all flowing thru it. Its ok tho i ony wear if to commute if i decide to ride. Its not my go to for weekend blasts.mthsts what the kabuto is for. Love ya work mate. Keep it up. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I tried on the GT Air, but ended up getting the RPHA 11. I never rode with the Shoei, but i love the HJC. I have 1 or 2 little complaints, but its a give and take kind of thing. I'd like better ventilation on hot days, but don't want the helmet to be any louder. That kind of thing.
Obviously a decepticon logo.. hmmm... I tease. Nice review and good info. Thanks for the video! I ride with an HJC CL-17, probably not the lightest helmet, but not too loud either. Proverbial 2 cents.
Awesome reviews and videos, I'm surprised that this channel does not have more subs! Each video I've watched I've been impressed with: the depth and neutrality of the reviews, quality of the video, and the variety of products. May I suggest a review video that involves best/top helmet mods, or top safety mods for riding? The product that made me think of the suggestion is helmet lights, specifically the light kit from LightMode. Not only does it look neat but helmet lights drastically improve visibility for a rider at night, and so I think helmet lights would be a good addition to a video about safety or helmet mods. Keep up the good work!
Dude I love your videos!! I have a few things thinks that I think might be good for the channel. You should give more high dollar helmet reviews even if it's just pictures and specs. I understand a lot of people are looking for budget helmets but full episodes of just budget helmets, high dollar helmets, ext you get my drift but again love your videos keep it up!
Hey Ryan. Loved your video as always. I like the way how you discuss even the minute details of the products that you review. I own an MT Blade Raceline helmet. The wind noise is unbearable in that. can you please suggest me some way to reduce the wind noise. Thanks
Thanks! Best way to reduce wind noise is to wear a scarf that bunches up under your helmet, effectively closing the air gaps between the helmet and your neck. Closing all your vents should help, too. ~RyanF9
Snell won't even look at a helmet with an internal sun visor because it is assumed that there is a lack of structural integrity from the cavity. Shoei combats this by shoring up the gt-air in the visor compartment region. If snell were to take a look at it, it would likely pass. The same is true for modular helmets, which is why you'll never see a snell rated modular or drop down sun visor helmet. It doesn't mean the manufacturer hasn't taken steps to ensure that the helmet is just as safe.
Like you, I feel jyst a bit better with a helmet carrying more than a DOT spec. And as much as I like modulars, I went HJC's non-mod CL-17, which also gets a thumbs-up from Snell, has a great fit, and decent ventilation. My sole gripe is that it didn't come with a chin guard.
Yeah I got the Bell and it's definitely loud as hell. However, I got it for the best kind of discount because I got it free with my bike so I shouldn't complain too loudly, might just need to get some ear plugs, or a new helmet.
Got me thinkin on the HjC. All my gear has to be pocket book friendly. Kinda wish it had the drop down tinted visor though. It's great for running with the main visor up and getting some air. But for the trade off of weight and safety rating could be doable.
Something I think people overlook for the street is the dirt bike style full face if you have breathing and/or fogging issues with a street style full face Where they don't have a shield and have bigger vents than a typical street style they breathe about like a 3/4 while protecting your face. About the only downsides are in looks weird wearing one on a street bike that isn't a dual sport and you need to wear goggles or glasses since it doesn't have shield
You missed the top 1. Schuberth SR-1. With something as novel as a still double-D chin strap. Ye, it cost, the lifespan should be about 10 yr's so the annual should be affordable. :)
I've never claimed to be an expert when it comes to gear, but the Shoei RF-1200 is the direct competetor to the RPHA. Not the GT-Air. But I'm guessing you knew this so that begs the question, why?
Deff need to check out the AGV X-8- Evo Naked, very comfortable helmet, great air flow (needed a good air flow helmet since I live in Las Vegas and well it can get pretty hot), overall I give it a 10 out of 10. I use my Blue tooth J birds with this helmet and they fit perfectly inside the helmet in one or both of my ears, but I usually just have one ear bud in. It is also a very good looking helmet in my opinion, and it cost 370 with SSL (Super Super Light) carbon, Kevlar and fiberglass shell construction, and 499 for the Carbon Fiber. Check it out
Also the GT Air, and RPHA 10 are not in the same category. The shoei can not be snell rated with the drop down visor, and the RPHA 10 is more of a race helmet. More in the category of the RF1200 or X-Twelve. I've owned a GT Air as well its a pretty damn good helmet though.
Hi there and might I say very good review. Based on my independent research but also much due to your commentary, I purchased the excellent RPHA-10, and am glad I did. Thank you. Not having done it before, I am looking to mount a Sena or Cardo unit and am unsure of how to properly secure the speakers. You did mention that it was a bit easier with the Shoei Air, and in some helmets I noted circular spots reserved for this purpose. Any tricks you have for doing it correctly with the RPHA? Thanks again.
The only thing I don't like about Bell for the price, is their small sizes. They don't drastically size down the shells for the S and XS, which means they're shoving in tons of extra padding. I tried on an XS Bell and the helmet (shell) was fucking gigantic.
nice to see a vlogger who knows the specs and has used information to create a good informative video. you surprise me F9. honestly I thought you would be like the rest "DUDE, this helmet is awesome it's so dope, watch me pop a wheelie with my new helmet wooo" keep it up.
Very nice video but I think these are your favorite helmets you bought, and not real best helmets. I agree that HJC rpha 10 is awesome helmet, but Shoei GT air isn't the right competition for it. I own both RF 1200 and rpha10 and Arai RX-q and I prefer to ride with my HJC. The best thing about the rpha 10 is it has the smallest shell I've ever seen for a premium sportbike helmet cuz I hate looking like a bobble head. But who am I to say what's best, since it's mostly subjective topic.
I know, right? I use a Speed R Avenger and it is amazing. Cost me $400 3 years ago. The title of the video is misleading, I feel. Quality generally costs money, and though they are somewhat over priced due to the name, Arai, Shark, Shoei, and Shubarth make some of the best helmets in the business. To not have any of their offerings on here is disingenuous.
Hey Ryan. Can you pls review Nolan N90-2. I'm confused if it is safe enough. By the way, your vlog is so useful ( the most comprehensive tests) and entertainments
Ha at comparing the HJC to a GT-Air...the real comparison would be a RF1200 which the GT Air is based on. The 1200 is Snell rated and is lighter than the HJC. Seems like your list is a bit biased for some reason. Hmm.

Great video for a new rider like myself. Thanks :) Subscribed ;)
Hey @FortNine I was just wondering, are there any BT integrated full faced helmets that you would recommend? I'm not sure of how many there are in the market nor which brands are of good quality. The only one I've heard of so far has been the BiLT, but with a lot of negative debates online. I love listening to music while I'm out riding, knowing the Sena is probably the best way to go in the meantime, I just wanted to here your thoughts on the available BT integrated helmets in the market right now. Thanks!!!
I'm not a huge fan of bluetooth-integrated helmets ... they try to do two jobs and don't fully succeed at either. My preference is to put an aftermarket system on an already-awesome helmet. As you'll see in my video of comm systems, I favour Cardo over Sena (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D3SvaIKAUNY.html). The most *seamless* system is Schuberth's neck roll comm. It's almost like a BT-integrated helmet. But *very* expensive. ~RyanF9
Hey Ryan - Great review! I recently subscribed to your channel and have not been disappointed. I appreciate the comparison of the HJC RPHA 10 to the Shoei GT-Air, but I am curious how you think the RPHA 10 will compare to the Shoei RF-1200. I recently purchased the RF-1200 and have not been disappointed; however, I am looking for a comparable second helmet. Stay Safe.
I'm going to be 100% illogical on my opinion. I'm going to buy me the $4,000 Arai Corsair X Carbon Fiber variant, because of it's looks, and because I want it to match my bike.
Cool videos! What is the best helmet in your opinion for Cruiser style motorcycles (Harley Roadster Like, Cafe Racer). Balancing safety and look. Thanks!!!
Maybe those helmets are best in Canada, but in Europe all test are dominated by Schuberth S2 and SR2. What about Nolan, Shark, Shoei and Arai? This brands are much better than HJC or ICON.
