Pedro Pascal and Nico Parker did a phenomenal acting and it was tragic the way Joel's daughter died and I literally cried when that happened.

Very cool that they got the same actress to play Marlene as in the game.

Pedro's 'accent': while he was born in Chile, his family came to the US when he was very young. He was raised in Texas and California. He's not performing an accent, that's that's just his.

What I liked so far from the first episode is the camera work and Sarah getting more screen time than the first game. And we’re gonna be seeing Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, the original actors who played Joel and Ellie, later on in the series as different characters, as well as Jeffrey Pierce, who originally portrayed Tommy as a different character.

The opening scene is creepy because what he's spitting is facts. The tension in the room had me tense. THAT'S ACTING!

Some of the small things I loved (since I mean there's lots of big things too): -Tommy's actor NAILED how Tommy sounds and even young Tommy looks. (younger tommy looks a lot different than post apocalypse Tommy actually) -Pedro Pascal as Joel nailed a fun thing. As soon as he gets up he grabs coffee, Sarah hands him Orange Juice, he takes a small sip, then washes it down with his coffee...something Joel would totally do -They didn't try to do a 1 for 1 recreation of the game, which honestly, is probably for the best. They covered major events, and even lines from the game, but expanded upon other things that aren't covered at all like Joel smuggling in drugs for people and him doing dirty work to get by -PTSD is shown in an authentic and realistic way by Pedro Pascal :( -And! They got the original actor who played Marlene in the game to reprise her role in the show. She's the only returning cast member to reprise her actual video game role. (although will say Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker are both in the series as more like..smaller parts I hear)

Non gamer here. Never played the game. But I hear it’s great, so… LOVED ep1.

10:35 I cried too, although I saw the scene in the game x times and knew what was going on. My conclusion after this episode: I've never been so captivated by the start of a series based on a story I know inside and out.

You didn't forget the plane moment, because it never happened in the game. The car just before that is actually what crashes into the side of their car, but here they did a fake out instead and added the plane crash.

Your initial idea about 'original actors' was correct, since they performed the scenes with performance capture suits. So, they weren't 'just' voice actors.

Luckily if after this your gearing up for a zombie apocalypse you don’t have to worry, it the fungus did evolve to humans it would lose it’s mind control powers.

BEST adaptation of a video game EVER

I haven’t played the game yet but I know the story. And this Ellie sounds exactly like the games Ellie. Loved this episode & I think it’s just going to be better & better.

Hi, great reaction. Never played the game and I have no idea what happens in the story. I didnt even know it was fungus, which is a pretty cool and different concept from the usual virus...etc. I went in completely blind and after episode 1 I gotta say I LOVE this show. I mean im totally hooked. I knew it would be great cause Craig Mazin, one of the creators, the main guy for the show i think, was the creator of the hbo show Chernobyl and that show as equally incredible so I had high expectations already - but yeah wow. I was totally floored when his daughter died, I thought SHE was the girl he was supposed to be travelling with so I was really shocked actually. That's the only thing I knew, cause I saw the game poster or art or wtv at some point and it was an older guy "with his daughter" I assumed. So that was really shocking and sad. Anyway, THANK YOU for the really great reaction and looking forward to the next ones!

Loved this from the first scene.. then Pedro and Nico were amazing.. but when Bella arrived it lifted it to another level… perfect adaptation.. and looking like the TV show of 2023.

Yap same.. i started crying pre " the scene" because i knew it was coming, the full out bawling. I think that for people who have palyed the first ( and second game for that matter) are -SO- connected to the characters already that it hurts extra much.

I've always loved The Last Of Us' use of fungi as the zombie agent because yeah, like the intro said, it already exists in the insect world. It's not a big stretch to think, "what if it just evolved to affect humans too?"

Fan Fact: Some of those clothes they wear are almost exactly like from the game. But Ellie's shirt was also the same shirt Nathan Drake wore in the flashback of Uncharted 3.

It’s definitely the best live action video game adaptation. I would say Arcane and the Castlevania show on Netflix are the best animation adaptations for video games.

Btw the fungus that was described in the beginning is a real fungus that affects insects mainly ants, so theoretically if it did Mutate to a point where humans could get it, then “The Last Of Us” is probably what the world would look like

Tommy in the show is perfect because Pedro Pascal is Hispanic and Tommy looks super Hispanic. Also he sounds EXACTLY like Tommy from the game. They both do.

I swear knowing what happens, from the game, made Sarah's scene so much more intense. The anticipation was so emotional. Cried my eyes out.

Sarah's death scene was handled perfectly. I honestly hated her casting choice in the first 5 minutes. To me the actor was too old to play Sarah. (She's 12 in the game and appears to be closer to 8-10 years old IMO) In the ~30minutes we spent with the character she won me over.

It looks like this show could be a good replacement for The Walking Dead, I don't really want to judge it after one episode, but I see a big potential here.

I've never played the game and don't really know the story but I know a certain character dies later on. But I'm mainly watching for the cast. Pedro Pascal is at his very best right now and I'm a huge fan of Anna Torv after her performances in Fringe and Mindhunter.

You didn't forget about the airplane, because that's not how they got knocked over in the game. There was a fake out in the show of that truck about hitting them because everyone was expecting it to be the same as the game, but they changed it up into the plane engine instead of being t-boned.

Man Pedro Pascal is just an insane actor. Also a pretty good choice. Kinda impressed so far, but I hate myself for starting this series. I mean, they can't really fuck up the story if they stick to the game, but after GoT and Westworld I swore to myself to never start another series until it's finished.

Is an adaptation when the game is basically a movie, better than anything that David Cage ever done? And HBO is only touching the first game, the real elephant in the room is what they would do when they end the first game. They would touch the second? Maybe they could write a better story than they did or back to the original idea of Abby infiltrating Denver to kill Joel, and then have a real moralistic dilemma, if she kill him maybe we would have a proper revenge story and how violence repeat itself.

That sarah scen is always hard.. more so in the show i feel.. the show gave us a bit more depth to sarah... game we never really got to know her.. was a good choice doing that.. fkn cried like it was 2013 again

What's interesting is it's implied the fungus is spread though wheat. Joel was doing Atkins.

It is not accurate by far . It gets results right but how is another story. The house was not in end street but two way street, house was not designed that way in game, Joel did not hit the neighbor with wrench but shot him, Sarah woke up to Tommy calling not a helicopter, Sarah replaced his broken watch not fixed it, the burning house was on the right on a country dirt road not a highway, Tommy never went to jail that night in the game, they didn’t run into the military until Sarah was shot but here they do before that, a plain is not what made them crash like in the show but a car wreck in game, they had a pistol that Joel used to kill his neighbor not a rifle as in the show, there was no hill in the shot when Joel gets shot in the show but magically finds one on flat ground from the previous wide shot, the little girl and them killing her was not in the game, we don’t see Tess until the apartment but in the show we see her in a conflict before the scene and I can keep going on all the mistakes such as Joel never knew the guy he talked to at the beginning of the show and so on

Loved the first episode, played both games multiple times, and hate seeing certain channels just trying their hardest to sh*t on the show for made up reasons is Joel is now a beta male??

As far as the first episode alone, Ellie's character dialogue lines seem a bit too hostile, imho. Otherwise good fun entertainment.
