This is a quick video about how to clean your glass during a detailing session. (specifically the windshield) It all depends on how "dirty" the glass is...but use as many or as little of these steps that work for your situation. (you most likely wont always need ALL of these steps, but I wanted to show you a bunch in one video)

Larry is by far the most comprehensive, “detailed” 😏 teacher of the detailing trade. Yes we all know how to “detail cars” but when it’s explained in such depth, we can all understand exactly what are the best methods (AND WHY)! This applies to all things detailing. I’m such a fan. To those who think you can do it better: great! perhaps share your ways and NOT spread negativity. Thank you Larry and AMMO NYC

It cracks me up that people are dogging him for his detailing practices. As soon as you guys start posting videos that get 100k plus views, are invited to some of the top detailing conventions (to teach classes nonetheless), are trusted with a 2 million dollar Ferrari's paint, and own your own product line, then maybe, just maybe, can you whine from your computers at home about how you would do a better job.

I understand that some of them may be detailers themselves but at the same time, I can imagine the armchair critics (who got their out of date information from their father or grandfather) saying "No, ha ha."

Hey bud...I use the razor first too get the heavy junk off and to spare the clay from filling up fast. Razor cost next to nothing and clay is annoyingly expensive. You can absolutely just use the clay but the razor does most of the heavy lifting for me. Thanks for watching! -L

Best video I've ever seen on how to clean a windshield! Fantastic job! I love the razor blade idea. If you're good with your hands and hold the right angle there shouldn't be a problem with scratching the glass! I've been using a razor blade to clean glass windows for over 45 years and never hurt the glass. Keep up the excellent work!
@exil3dlivecom
@exil3dlivecom 9 лет назад
R u kidding me! It scratches the film. Lol. Don't do it
@Bahai111
@Bahai111 9 лет назад
cgminds M I only use the razor on glass not the film. I'm a professional photographer I have lens that cost over $20,000. I know how to take care of glass. Never used a razor on film! I don't have film on the outside of any of my cars. I do have film on a few of my vehicles on the inside but I don't use the razor on the inside. If you're a craftsman and you have experience you won't have a problem using a razor. I was a Master Craftsman at PBS for years building everything from glass boxes to neon sculptures.
@Bahai111
@Bahai111 9 лет назад
Errol Dillon I use close up glasses to see the glass in great detail. Also the angle of the razor has to be kept at a very low angle when cleaning. Also being extremely careful is the key. I'm always doing it slow & softly. Haste makes waste. I'll grant you that most people who aren't skilled with their hands might leave the razor in the box. Experience users are the ones to try this. Thanks for trying to help. I've been doing the glass with a razor for over 45 years! Not one problem! YET!
@exil3dlivecom
@exil3dlivecom 9 лет назад
Errol Dillon no no no! I mean all cars have a layer of plastic film on the outside. Lamination. U use a blade and guarantee you will create very fine scratches. Not worth it. I've done it and learned. There paste that cleans and removed what a blade removes. Much safe. Wait till you drive a car that someone run a blade on it, wait till sun set and the right angle, u will agree
@exil3dlivecom
@exil3dlivecom 9 лет назад
Ask any pro car windshield guy about it. He will agree with me 100%. On regular class you can use a blade all you want. But not a car windshield. Duhhhhhhhh

Listen up boys and girls . . . Larry here of Ammo NYC is one of the best detailers in the U.S. He has lots of other videos and they are highly informative and entertaining and worth a close listen if you are into car care. I've had the pleasure of attending one of the best detailing schools in America and I can tell you that he really is a credit to the detailing industry. If I'm not mistaken, he also starting up a detailing academy of his own. I'd love to attend THAT one too one day!

These products are great, both the rain-repellent and the anti-fog; I've tested them on my helmet visor (it's my latest vid) - the rain repellent worked well, I could see a noticeable improvement in the size of the water droplets and the way they bead, but the anti-fog was spot-on, no fogging whatsoever.

Your methods make sense and jive with what I would do as well. I’m a female & agree that I find Windows the most difficult to clean without leaving streaks. Keeping your cloth flat and folded is a good tip. I often need to clean my windows mid-week between washes. They can be fairly dirty depending on wind and other factors, so a few spurts of cleaner is not enough to thoroughly clean. Yet my car is newish, so I’m not ready for the clay yet.

A brilliant video lesson as always, so thank you Larry for taking the time to shoot, edit, and upload this for everyone. I have a 1974 Bentley T1, so could you please do a tutorial sometime for detailing classic cars, ie paint rejuvenation, leather interiors that have old scuffs, and chrome bumpers. I hope you could do this, as I am sure there are other classic owners who would love your guidance. Best wishes from England, Emma :-)

Great video. I have a 2002 Honda Accord, and have owned about a dozen or so vehicles. Sometimes Windex and newsprint works awesome. However, my 2002 Accord, is being a pain to get "Crystal" clear. This video has opened my eyes to how to get your windshield spotless. Also, the passenger side approach to inside windshield cleaning is the way to go. Fighting with the steering wheel is a pain. Thanks for the tips Bro.

Can I just say one thing, where the Rain sensor is for the auto wipers I found in my car applying the hydrophobic layer makes the rain sensor think its raining heavier than it really is. I tend to do all my windscreen then leave that small area. Just something I noticed on my car and though I would share.

Mr. AMMO. If you ever read this comment, please try 0000 steel wool. It does everything you just did in one step. The wool will polish and clean the glass. After rain X it and wind shield wipers are almost not even necessary. I have been doing this for years with great results. Maybe your way is superior but the steel wool may save you some time which is money. Not telling you how to do your job just a suggestion. Great job by the way.
@johngerlach2765

As far as it goes, a great clip - If you want to get the stuck-on crud off the windshield - instead of using a razor on a stick on the windshield, try using 0000 grade steel wool with the invisible glass as a lubricant. Easier and safer and produces great results.
@johngerlach2765

I think using Carnuba hand wax as the final finish is much better than Rain X. It leaves my windows crystal clear, it sheds water I think better than Rain X, and the windows cleans better during routine cleaning. I use regular Windex, a scotch pad, final cleaning with Windex and a microfiber cloth, then add the wax. All I can say I've never had cleaner crystal clear windows like this before.

I spent a couple of years working as a commercial window cleaner so I'm fortunate that a lot of this knowledge feels like common sense to me. :D Good video, but I do like to lift my razer blades up after each stroke to avoid scratching caused by grime trapped behind the blade. Although I'll admit this is more of a concern on large window panes that have concrete overspray or the likes.

Stoner Inc. or Invisible Glass is made about 40 minutes from my house, near Quarryville, PA . I actually did a factory tour in 8th grade for career shadowing (electrical engineer) and their facility was really clean and nicely laid out. I know they were in the process of adding more automation stuff so I'm sure it is cooler than when I visited there. I think it would be a neat video to do a factory tour and maybe Stoner would do that. I'm not to sure how far away you are from Pennsylvania though.

Yeah, black & white (not colour) newspaper is the best! Just change to a new piece of newspaper before it leaves a trail of lint. The only down side is it will make your hand black from the ink so wear a disposal glove or wash your hands. With the thick microfiber cloths I've found it leaves fine dust on the glass.
@bcask61

OFoxHldgs Correct. Printers ink contains graphite, very effective as a polishing agent. Been using newsprint forever to clean glass.

If you think newspaper works great, try invisible glass seriously. I'm doing maybe 8 or 9 details a week and Im getting all 17 glass surfaces done averaging about 15 minutes a car for glass. Invisible glass and microfiber

+tavi921 I use Invisible Glass with newspaper that is about two weeks old. I don't know why but if the newspaper is around that old, it works better than a 2-day-old newspaper. Must be the kind of paper they use.

Ignore. Regardless of whether you placed items on the hood, introduced several items, I will use your advice as a solid contribution.

You mentioned not wanting to lean over the fender when cleaning the outside of the glass, so as not to scratch the fenders. What I do is use a large padded cloth, held in place with those really strong rare earth magnets (got them at a hardware store years ago, can't remember the brand name). Customers are quite impressed. Thought about getting a large sheet with my company name on it, but haven't got around to it. I should; it would be good advertising as people drive by.

@brianbastoni2723

Its fastest and most effective. Removes all contaminants. I work at body shop. After getting painted the cars always have over spray on them so steel wool is what's used to clean.

Very informative video, just like all of yours. I just done this process, but i hit the windscreen with heavy cut compound and polish after, unfortunately just the very very light wiper scratches have come out, nothing else, any sand or dust scratches will not come out. If your windscreen is a mess, just get a new one, you.ll waste a whole day trying to remove the scratches.

Hi Larry, Thanks for another great video. It is much safer to use very very fine wire wool and glass polish, (used to use this on new cars to get delivery wax and crud off). You only need to slip once with a blade, and oops ££££ for a new seal :-o
@EdwardLewis1
@EdwardLewis1 5 лет назад
Just note on using wire wool, it has to be ( Grade 0000), nothing rougher!! Not even grade 0. The difference between grade 0000 and grade 0 is twice ( x 2 ) the micron size.

Hi Larry, yesterday I cleaned the windows in my house and I used a razor blade to remove some fly "gifts", well these are not Bentley glasses but... it's about glass. I forgot to put some water while using the blade and sometimes it felt like I was digging into the glass, far far far better with water (actually I used a window cleaner as lubricant, as you are doing here). So, do not forget the lubricant when you are using a blade. And this is a must for anything that travels on a surface, blade on glass, clay on paint, steel wool on chrome, etc..
@newjerseybt
@newjerseybt 10 лет назад
I have very old house windows that actually had a mineral type of coating. I used acetic acid to remove the mineral substance as much as possible before using a razor blade. When the acid fully cleaned off the mineral layer, the razor blade did not "dig in".
@majnu100

newjerseybt vinegar also works great but fucking stinks, but it could potentially eat away and silicone seals. Pulycaf used to remove likescale and gunk build up in coffee machines should also work great.

@jimniblack

Good overview of a complete process. It took me a while to conclude that the best way to clean old water spots is mechanical removal. The razor blade needs to be perfectly clean and an accident will gouge the glass. 0000 steel wool is safer but can leave iron shreds. Hand applying Bartenders Friend is an abrasive alternative to the cerium oxide glass polish.

This is a little dated now, but I see the principles carries through to now. I have a F-150 that I toil on often to maintain the deep luster of the ruby red paint. It is parked in my drive because my garage is for everything else of course. And here in Texas the sun is merciless and it’s humid this close to the sea. When I’m done detailing it my arm and back hurts. I give it all the oomph I have. It is not as good as him, but I find the glass a challenge. Love that Rain-x. With the new ceramic paint covers now instead of wax, it seems that the ceramic is all that is used. I’ve tried at least a half dozen brands who all claim theirs is the best and gradually I have come to not believe them. Yesterday I got frustrated and after polishing the hood I had a sudden urge, so I used a good wax. It looks awesome.
