I started playing 40+ years ago with an assortment of Wilson clubs. Back then, I thought my 5 iron was defective - my playing partner looked at my 5 iron, took it, and hit a beautiful 210 shot to within three feet of the pin. The 5 iron was not defective.
Love this type of video. I started playing golf in High School. Gave it up when I had kids flash forward 18 years I was diagnosed with cancer beat it and decided to pick up playing golf again 2 years ago. Helped me physically get back to where I am today.
Started playing golf in my mid thirties, about 20 years ago. I am much older now but actually play better because I have learned not to swing out of my shoes, and improved my putting and chipping. I nearly never practice with a driver much anymore. Very good episode for the beginner.
Jon & Ashley you two are the best! Thnx for the info video. I personally started about 10yrs ago and got frustrated, so I didn't last long. Started back a few months ago. I'm doing more practice and watching more RU-vid vids. Thnx again for the time you put in!!
I started playing October of this year, thanks to you guys I started to hunt down clubs at my local Goodwill and was able to score some irons, wedges and a bag for little under $10. This has been my setup since and I go to my local course to practice down the range. I’m now 25 and I plan to do this forever. I enjoy your content and always look forward to new videos and adventures.
Love your channel! Played golf for 15 years and gave up after having both knees and both hips replaced followed by back surgery. Recently started going to driving range and attempting the single plane swing at the age of 67. It's a work in process and enjoying every bit of it.
My husband is a beginner but he has made the start of his golf journey happen by hunting at goodwill and flea markets like you guys! Yal have taught us a ton. Thank you!
My dad starting me playing golf when I was in my teens...unfortunately I stopped soon after and didn't start again till my college years with my friends...then I stopped again, got a real job and got married and didn't really had anytime for golf but now in my twilight years I happily started again and plan to keep golfing for the rest of my life. I also what to say I really enjoy all your inspiring videos and want to thank you for that....
I started July of 2021. I was invited to pay golf with a buddy, and I was so bad that I fell in love with it! You guys are so wholesome and genuine. I feel like I can rewatch all of your videos over and over like a great TV show!
Started about three years ago, and been watching you & Rick Shiels for about the last two. Love learning in layman's terms from you & some of the more technical aspects from him. Thanks for the help & keep up the good work.
My brother (age 19) and I (age 23) started this summer (2021). We were gifted a set from a friend that no longer played the game. We went to a driving range and bought 200 golf balls! We quickly found out that hitting a golf ball was not and easy task. We have never laughed so hard in our life and from that day forward we had found a new hobby that we could do together. We found this channel when we were trying to learn the differences between iron and drivers and even putters. We have learned so much from you guys. Thank you!
Started probably 20 years ago and haven't swung one in 15. Situations change and it got put on the burner that didn't even work. So basically just starting over. Lol. Love watching you guys and am always taking notes to try and help myself. Had a heart attack 5 years ago and can't remember a whole lot of things so I'm really having to relearn.
I started playing golf in 1996 and I really enjoy playing golf and i have gotten better over the years of playing. I am 55yrs old now and will play till I cannot no more...Love your videos!!!!!. Happy Holidays!!!!!.
I have never stepped foot on a golf course. I have been watching your videos for a couple months now and getting really interested in golf just don't know where to start on beginning clubs so videos like yours really help
I started in 1977 with a mixed bag of clubs from the dollar bin. I did not get a full set till high school in 1981. Ive seen technology change and prices soar but i love to play this game with my family, friends and new people we meet on golf trips. Keep on swinging.
My dad retired from his job after 36 years started playing golf and got me hooked in 1984. Playing ever since and actually became a decent golfer, single digit handicap for over a decade. Now that I am almost 65 my game is not quite what is used to be, can still play to a low double digit handicap. First set of irons Sam Snead Wilson Blue Ridge. Golf is a game you can play until you die. Advice for beginners practice chipping an putting twice as much as every other club. My grandson will be ready for a better set soon. Got him started as soon as I was able. Keep up the great work.
Started playing Golf when I was 14 on St.Croix it was at The Reef 9 hole course I sat it down for many years and my 8 year old Just started playing so it's time for me to dive back in and grow with him in the game. Thank you all for your content we enjoy watching and keeping him interested in Golf.
Started playing when I was 14 with my dad and played a 9 hole course. First 3 rounds were all 66 (9 holes). Have played infrequently since due to work commitments but hope to play a lot more going forward at the ripe old age of 57
I actually came across y’all’s channel while I was on the search for “beginner clubs”. And ever since then, I TORE through every single video y’all have put out. I started TRYING to play maybe a couple of months ago and bought the Top Flight XL set with bag. I IMMEDIATELY upgraded my driver to a Ping G410. I have grown to love the sport, and have never thought I could try my patience so often and succeed lol. Thank you guys for the amazing content, tips, and laughs. If you couldn’t tell by my usage of the word, “y’all”, yes I am from TEXAS. Lol!
I took a golf lesson in grade school it was late 80’s. Then didn’t play again till high school for short time as a hack. Now I’ve been playing for the better of 15 years as a weekend worrier sometimes weeks days. My game has greatly approved. I’ve learned to not swing like a mad man and let the club do the work and if go one up and use a nice even stroke. Your video and all the other I watch have help so much this past year thank for them
Picked up golf with my late kid brother about 15 years ago. (Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of his passing). We bought random clubs at Goodwill and shared our Frankenstein-set, upgrading and trying out new clubs as we got better. (That's what first drew me to your channel - it reminded me of our trips to "g-dub" to look for new clubs to add to or swap out of our set.) Now my daughter is in her 2nd year as a caddy and 3rd year as a player. I love the game and love your channel.
Started and stopped playing golf 20 years ago but picked it back during quarantine and continue to love it. The people I’m playing with now make the game more enjoyable.
Started playing in 1964, when I was 10 on a par 3 course in Kokomo, Indiana, with my father. (Rices Golf Range). Dad is gone now but think of him every time I’m on the course. Love your video’s. Look forward to each one.
Me and my boyfriend started playing about a year ago! We have been thrifting for clubs for close to the same amount of time and it’s our favorite hobby and has taken over our basement needless to say! 🤣 we love you guys and have been watching you religiously.
Started playing golf when I was 8yrs old with my dad and I am 48 now and still love the game just as much as I did back then . I played high school golf and also now my 11yr old is getting into it also . Thanks for this video .
Great info! I started playing golf in 2008. I got into golf to get me out of the club and bar scene. After getting into the sport, it did more than that. Since this is a game of strategy, I learned a great deal that I can apply to everyday situations.
I started playing literally 1 month ago. I have never played golf before expect for golf games on the phone. Thank you for helping me look for cheap clubs that work.
Started playing golf when I was 10. Stopped playing at 18. Then started again at 21 and been playing ever since. This channel has taught me so much about clubs. Love it.
Started playing golf in the early 90s with my grandfather. I loved playing with Him. Time passed by and now I am dusting off the rust and playing golf with my young son. He surprised me and told me he wanted to try it. I now use a taylormade burner as my driver and I love it. I enjoy watching your shows and the different golf clubs you find. The old ones are some of the best.
I started at when I was 11, chipping balls in the back yard with a cut-down 7 iron, to holes we dug with a garden trowel. The next year I got some used irons, a Patty Berg pitching wedge, a Bulls-eye putter, hand-me-down Wilson Staff persimmon 3- and 5-woods and a white canvas sunday bag. I didn't replace the irons or bag until I was 26 when I bought a set of Wilson 1200 GE irons and a Wilson vinyl cart bag. I kept the putter until 1991 when I bought a Wilson TPA XX putter (still in the bag). This was a great video. Thanks!
Starting playing in 8th grade, made the golf team and played pretty often til about 20 yrs ago..then my son started playing last year and for me interested again...we have enjoyed playing this past summer and fall....enjoy your channel very much...good luck in the future and Merry Christmas!!
Started playing in my teens, stopped when I had children and restarted in the summer of this year and fell back in love with the game straight away. Great video both look forward to the notifications popping up
Started playing when I was 32 when I lived in Texas. Panhandle of Texas hard dry fairways, wind blows constantly! Trees are scarce as good golf shots,I'm pretty sure I hit 95% of them that were available. I'm 69 now and more addicted than ever. Love the videos guys!
I played golf back in the 1990's and haven't played since now. Started back at it. Picked up a new set of Top Flight 2020 clubs, a beginner set. This was a great video for beginners and those getting back into it after 30 years!! I'm already looking at getting new irons but I'm waiting. For the other beginners out there reading this, your short game is where most of your stokes occurs. Get putting a priority more than anything.
I started playing about 3 months ago. I also started selling on eBay in July. I found your channel because I watch a ton of resellers on RU-vid. Thanks for the videos! Merry Christmas
Great video. I started 10 years ago and quickly found that people get caught up with the hype with clubs. (including myself). It nice to see a refreshing perspective. Keep up the great work.
Hi starting golfing late in life, I think around age 40. Played on and off. I like the personal challenge of the game. It can be very frustrating, but rewarding when you hit that great drive, chip. I took a hiatus from 1996 to 2021 where I didn't play. I was invited to play in Feburary 2021 by some aquaintances. I fell in love with the game again. I just assembled my own personal first set of clubs thanks in part to your videos. About half of my clubs came from Goodwill and Play it again Sports, the rest from Mercari and ebay. Love your videos. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Hi guys greetings from Brisbane Australia, I am a second time beginner I starting playing golf in the late 70's early 80's when I was at university but post wife and kids it well went down the priority list, but now coming into retirement my wife and I are looking at getting back into golf (she also played a little back in the day) for both the recreation and for fitness, I have been really enjoying watching your channel and just how positive you both are so I do hope you can continue with the channel, all the very best and keep enjoying :)
I started playing when I worked at a country club in high school and thru college! A club member gave me some callaway knockoff irons with kzg 5 wood and a Cleveland high bore driver! I quit playing in after I graduated college but 16 years later I’m back out in the greens! Love your videos! My son is leading the game now and would love that set of clubs!!!! Keep up the good content!
I started playing golf in 1990. I only played for a few years before children and work obligations took all my time but loved it.and missed it. Kids are gone and now I actually have some time to play. Love all your tips and golf jewels for someone like me who is starting over again.
I’m 22, started playing golf this past summer and just got married this past summer as well! I started watching your videos to understand what Goodwill clubs to pick up. Still very new to the game, but love learning what clubs to look for. Thanks!
lol started playing golf in1975 but there is always something to see and learn including changes to the equipment. Many thanks for the always enjoyable AND informative videos
I first played golf in high school (80's) through the mid 90s and then work and life got in the way and took a 25+ year break. I've been back playing for about 2 years now. Gone are the grip it and rip it days, now it's slow and steady. Great job as always, keep up the good work.
My daughter it's 19 and just asked me if I could help her learn to play (her first mistake). Your tips were spot on....and those clubs would be a great starter set for her. Thanks guys another great video!!! Best, Tim
Started playing in my college days 25+ years ago near Westwood. Picked it up again last year and had been hitting the range every other day and get on course when I find someone comfortable to play with. merry Christmas 🎄! Thanks for keeping everyone sane with your videos, Ashley and Jon.
Started at 15 yrs old. Then quit. Started back at 21 and haven't stopped. Lots of ups and downs and have changed clubs more times than I can count. Love this game. Love watching you guys 🥰. Keep up the great videos
I started playing golf as a Junior in high school. I played for about 15 years and then gave it up for 25 years and 4 years ago my wife and I started playing again. We're in our 70's. Thanks for the videos.
I started playing golf in the last century. I had to give it up for budget reasons. Both of my sons now play golf and I would love getting back into it with them. Love your channel.
I started playing when I was a kid in the early 2000’s but never got serious into my golf game until about a year ago. I have some older clubs but do not work for me anymore. Always looking into what is good for a casual player. Really appreciate all that you guys do. Love watching the videos.
I played my first round this fall and have been looking into how to select some clubs for a total beginner. Thanks for the recommendation and content. It’s fun to see this type of recommendation content as well as watching how you select clubs in your other content.
I started playing in 1965. My new Neighbor just went out with me for the first time at fell in love with the game. He just showed me the first 2 club's he bought at a thrift store. A putter and driver. I'm sending him a link to this video and the advice you posted at the end. Thanks for doing this. It's will be greatly helpful.
I began to golf in my teens ... but only played about a game per year for many years. My youngest son got me interested in playing seriously this year. So, I upgraded my very old set with the following used clubs: a TaylorMade M2 10.5 degree driver; a TaylorMade M2 3HL Fairway Wood; a TaylorMade SIM Max 5 Hybrid Fairway Wood; and a set of TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC Irons 4-PW as well as a new Costco Kirkland Signature wedge set and a new Costco Kirkland Signature Putter. Very happy with my set. Enjoying golf and your channel! Envious of your Florida golf weather. I am hitting balls into a net (because of the winter cold and snow) until next May.
I was a regular golfer many years ago.. by regular, I mean that I played regularly and was able to play pretty consistently. Life happened and 20 years have passed and I’m trying to get back to playing and, more importantly, enjoying the game. Speaking of enjoy, I enjoy watching your channel and wish you well.
I started playing years ago,Then work and life got in the way but retired now and like to start again, John your advice was far from boring found very useful just what I was looking for Thanks Enjoy the channel and the both of you having fun together.
Started playing golf in the early 80's. I would shot in the low 80s back then. Played on and off until 2000 or so but, my kids started playing sports and my weekends were spent with them. I am now 59 years old and you 2 have me thinking about starting up again. I have my set of Top Flight tour irons that still look good to me.
I started playing when I was around 15. Got into it pretty heavy at first then hardly played at all for about 10 years. Got back into it because of Covid now for the last year and a half, and now i'm addicted to thrifting for clubs lol. Tore my abs up practicing way too much so i'm in constant pain, but my game has never been better! Ashley & Jon are also addicting, and the most fun thing to watch on RU-vid.
Started playing golf back in the eighties, played on my school teams and did a few tournaments. I remember playing in Florida with my grandfather, somewhere near Sebring and he was getting in trouble for picking up a few oranges off the ground haha. Golf always brings back great memories.
I started playing golf in my mid twenties loved it for a while and got frustrated when I wasn't improving and gave it up for a while and really began to love it again during the pandemic. I really played alot this last summer and try to play every opportunity I get.
Excellent video. Thank you so much. I appreciate the advice about the woods. Very confusing especially when you add hybrids into the mix. I started golfing about a year ago with my 11 year old daughter so we could learn something new and spend some time together. We discovered a great sport with beautiful scenery and nature. My only regret...I didn't take golf seriously when I was younger, I hope to change that for this young lady.
I started 6 months ago, because when I first started dating my girlfriend she would go golfing. I've been slowly getting my clubs together and love the game and it's something we now enjoy together. This was a great video and thanks for all the links so I can look up more info! Enjoy the holidays!
I started playing golf about 30 years ago but often feel like a beginner. 1 day driver works but not irons. Next day irons work but not driver. Chipping and putting always ok. Enjoy your channel very much.
I started playing around 10 years old but didn’t play through high school or college. Picked it back up a few years ago and hit my PR of 92 in my last round of the summer! I currently have a thrift store set that’s way out of my league so I could definitely use some forgiveness. Thanks for the entertainment and being so genuine!
Love the channel ! Started playing April 2019 didn’t get out as much because of work. But have recently been able to play at least once a week and learning more about the game every time.
Started out when I was about 5 - my old man bought me a 5 wood from the local driving range which was my only club for a few years. Began playing just about every day during the summer in my youth but then quit for about 10 years. Just began playing again last summer! Love the channel, keep it up.
Love you videos. I started playing about 26 years ago with my dad. Still play at least once a month with him and almost every weekend with my brother in law.
I started playing golf in 1965 i was 16 I AM 70 years old and still love the game.I took 3 lesson packs from pga superstore .He mostly fooled with my grip T he swing was ok for a senior he told me .I have a bad back and rebuilt shoulder and dont want to hit the ball wrong and reinjure myself.I love watching you guys you both hit the ball a long way .
Just started playing again after 20 years, but my son has just started at age 16! He's using a gifted set of irons at the moment and an old Wilson 3 wood! Love the channel!
Started playing golf June of this year, always picked on my friends that played for hitting a tiny ball with a stick just to chase it down and hit it again. Boy was I wrong, I love golf now and golf atleast once a week. Got my cousin hooked too, we both suck but man is it incredibly fun.
I've had clubs for years but only play when we go on vacation to Dustin or Mexico. I didn't know what I was doing when I bought my clubs but the guy at the golf shop recommended a set of Cobra II so I paid $1200 for them and still can't play very good, but it's still fun. Ashley is my inspiration because she is killing it!! so glad I found you guys, you guys are awesome.
Started playing when I was 24. I don't play very much because a few back surgeries have limited me to playing. But when I do play i don't take it very seriously because it doesn't pay my bills. Thanks for all the great info. Best informative couple on youtube. 100k almost their tournament.
I started golfing when I was a teenager but hadn't played in 20 years before last year. It was like beginning all over again. I learned on my dad's old Ram set so just blades in the 80's the new irons and hybrids are amazing.
Started playing golf in 1974 with a used starter set, 1 & 3 Wood, 3,5,7,9,PW Northwestern clubs. Will retire in August 2022, hopefully I can play more then. Been watching your videos and I am now a fan of the Ping G30 driver. I look forward to the Stacked Golf videos. Thank you Jon and Ashley.
Love your content and finds. My company bought a country club when I was 22. Golf cost $2.50 to play. I didn't even make enough to buy clubs but I wanted to play. I found used clubs for $40 at guess where? Yup, a yard sale, lol. I played and learned a lot. Now im looking at activities to do with my son, so these clubs are NOT for me but for him. I feel golf is a terrific bonding game and if I can get him started and inspired by your fun videos it will be a win, win. Thank you and keep it going.
