Some interesting hints. They call an "empty" system Sol. That's a very specific designation. They recognize the international Red Cross symbol for medical facilities. The AI recognized the species, but they did not. Conclusion. Humans used to be known, but are no longer around.
Really bothered me too. I'm guessing we can pretend this has been translated to human english anyways so instead of RF-478271-B we see Sol. But then came the red cross being universal or something. Poison to any sort of immersion.
Sounds to me more like knowledge of humanity was suppressed, and Ed is an old overlooked relic. Humans lost a war or were eliminated? I'm still working through many more parts at story source.
A lot of stories on reddit just don't have endings. Perhaps the author intended to make a part 2 or just couldn't come up with anything more than this story so ended it like this. There is a link to the story in the description.
@jeremyminecraft7145 I can't see the description details until I'm already in the video. And like many people, I typically listen to these while I'm driving. So if I have a 15 minute drive I'll pick 15 story to listen to. It's nice to know from the title that it is part 4 or whatever when i can't spend the time to go digging. Perhaps you will learn tact when you grow up.
With several human sounding names among the crew, the "red cross" being a universally recognized symbol, the human ship being made of "ancient parts", and the AI recognizing the human. I'd be willing to bet that humans were an ancient/precursor race that created the Federation and suddenly disappeared Millennia ago, thought extinct and forgotten.
We all know this is going to be a horror story. Bullets ineffective, blood everywhere, bodies missing, I think you can guess what type of enemy they are facing or rather have invited into their ship.
So does the database already have humans in it and because they aren't yet in post-FTL they were only observed until they reached to it and not yet announced to the puplic before it?
Or the humans are a reclusive race that drew back from the wider galaxy after they impacted galactic culture. The humans being on file, but not exceptionally well known, makes sense given the story.
Raise your hands those who knew it was a human ship as soon as they picked up the signal ? ( Up. Up, up up up, up. Up. Up, up-up-up.) You know, when you can smell a cliffhanger coming from a dozen miles away, it's not really much of a cliffhanger, is it ?
14 minutes in, and I'm having a sneaking suspicion of what might've transpired: They captured a human, the human somehow acquires a weapon and Fights Back, somehow overpowering the pirates and starting all the escape pods to make sure nobody escapes. Once he has eliminated all resistance, he fires on the escape pods to make sure noone escapes. He discovers one of the pirates managed to call for help, and being alone not knowing how to operate the sub-light engines, decides to play Xenomorph. Okay, now having listened to the entire Story, My theory is diffrent, considering it seems to have been a human ship, probably a colony or Generation ship, considering the size and children among the Crew. It seems to have been either preyed upon by slavers or Bastard pirates or a diffrent state, in rivalry to whoever launched that ship. The ship Was either scuttled by its Crew fearing the worst, or boarded by some form of Marines/military. The capsules were fired upon because nobody should tell the Story. Humans weren't yet approached for first Contact, because they didn't yet have a working FTL-engine.
Story was interesting until the end. Gave it a negative review because it's incomplete. I'm guessing that this is meant to be part 1 of a new series. Please label all chapters with their part numbers, including part 1.
Forced interjection of homosexuality that has nothing to do with the storyline for the sake of it? Color me unsurprised. It's such a shame that the weirdos of society rooted themselves in scifi and nerd culture.
This sounds awfully woke, and that means identity politics at the expense of story. He is dropping the ship name “diversity “ over and over, a gender fluid AI, a gay couple…. checking all the twitter boxes. This is not hfy, it’s bad fanfic.
