If this was actually possible, I could imagine a group of humans making purpose built ships to travel north and south of the ecliptic to regular intervals of 1, 5, or 10 years to record all the lost broadcasts from the earliest days of TV to modern times.
@Nevir202
@Nevir202 Месяц назад
Yep, if possible it WILL happen. I don't much think it IS, ironically more for signal degradation reasons than the impossibility of FTL. LOL
@Cha-Khia
@Cha-Khia Месяц назад
@Nevir202 Well since we know for a fact that radio signals decay over time, and we're only mostly sure that FTL is impossible, I can see where you are coming from.

Someone selfish enough to be willing to start an interstellar war to watch TV. Sounds very human.

"Human, your radio signals are radiating away from Earth in an ever expanding spherical shell. You had an option of 41,253 degrees of movement you could have gone you catch up with your 'special' video. Why must you be _here?_ "

LIkely because he didn't start at Earth, but at some point near the edge of Earth's territory and HERE is the closest point to intercept the video to his starting point.

Unfortunately… this doesn’t work. Our radio waves are too weak to leave our Hill sphere, about one and a half lightyears.
@GuardianSage
@GuardianSage Месяц назад
@UpperDarbyDetailing that might be true, but the idea of this video is what's funny. If I remember correctly, it's not so much that the radio waves can't reach beyond that point, but that after that point, there is so much background radiation and signal degradation that it's impossible to make anything out.
@krevor4095
@krevor4095 Месяц назад
@@UpperDarbyDetailing Think about what you are saying? We've only just recently had a couple objects (Voyager 1 and 2) left the heliopause. How would we KNOW what the conditions 1.5 LY actually are? Answer: We don't. Not really. Those conditions are only theorized. Not proven...yet. What if there are eddies and currents that just might make it possible for a signal to not be degraded?
@noppornwongrassamee8941

@@GuardianSage Superior tech also means superior signal processing and discrimination. The human admitted that he was going to have to do a lot of work to remove static from the signal after all.

sounds like something a human would do.

This is such a human thing to do that we'd let a crew of Xenomorphs, Predators , and other hostiles through. Of course, we'd escort them, not just because of the potential threat, but also out of curiosity.

So it's easier to go into deep space on an FTL ship than it is to seek the video from the source you broadcasted it in the first place???
@MizuMing
@MizuMing Месяц назад
That really depends. Some places stupidly destroy or trash reels after use, making it impossible to see again. Many old movies had this issue, some only preserved because someone dumpster dived. Many also find their way to private collections, and don't get shared. It is entirely possible the video he's trying to catch falls into one of those categories. 🤔
@nobodyimportant2470
@nobodyimportant2470 Месяц назад
Many episodes of early Doctor Who had the original tapes recorded over to save money. The preserved episodes from this time period came from early adopters of VHS and Beta-max who recorded the broadcast.
