In this video I show you how to rotate your tires and change your oil on my 2021 Toyota RAV4 XLE hybrid. This is my first hybrid vehicle and Toyota does provide “free” maintenance or service for the first 2 years or 20,000 miles. I decided to do the service myself because I do not have 20+ hours to waste sitting at the dealership over the next 2 years. Changing the oil on the hybrid is not unlike other vehicles but there are a few curveballs you need to be aware of.

I fill the new oil filter with oil before installing. Even though the filter is mounted horizontally, surprisingly only a small amount of pours out when installing the new oil filter.

Good morning bud. I agree with you on everything here. I just ordered a 22 Rav 4 hybrid for my wife and I’m thinking about declining the first 2 oil changes and doing it myself also. These cars are really easy to service. My wife’s 2012 Highlander hybrid has 257,000 miles and still runs great except it burns a little oil and has a misfire and cat code. I believe this is due to the 10k mile oil changes which were done by the dealer up to 200k miles and then me. Way too long of an interval imo. I’m changing to 5k miles like you and doing it myself. It’s cheap enough. I have a lift in my garage so that makes it easier. I rotate the same sequence as you also. I’m subscribed but check out The Car Care Nut RU-vid channel. He has lots of great diy service videos for Toyota’s. Thanks for sharing.

thanks for the video! According to the owner's manual, simply swap the front and rear tires on the same side. It didn't show swapping something like swapping the right front with the left rear.

Nice video Brother, just a few suggestions. Not sure of you replaced the drain plug gasket/washer. You can get the Toyota ones on Amazon or dealer, I never re-use. Also, might be good idea to run engine before replacing the panel underneath to check for leaks. Some people also put some oil in the filter before replacing.

And to add to those fun facts, you might suggest wiping the oil filter mating surface on the engine to be wipe clean. Yes, it's like brand new, but you never know when some debris may be on that surface. Now, has anyone made a video for the 2021 Venza Hybrid oil change? Haven't seen one yet. I will need to crawl underneath to see how similar it is to the Rav4 Hyb.

Thanks for the video, nice job, for the 1st oil change , I do it at 1,500 miles, just a habit with new cars, get all the extra break in lube out, or whatever they use on bearings and such, found the oil mobil 0/16 5 qt jug $27.99 at Walmart today , 4.2.22 and a Toyota filter for $7.73 also.

I change my oil religously like you and I have a suggestion for you. Install one of these and make your life much simpler: Fumoto F-133: STANDARD VALVE WITH 12MM-1.25 THREADS WITH LEVER CLIP. It is available on Amazon. I have run them on my rigs for the last 15 years.

You forgot to mention a drain plug gasket. That probably should be replaced at every oil change. Good thing is its around a dollar and can be bought at any Toyota parts department at the dealership, also could pick up a few genuine Toyota oil filters while you are there. These filters usually run about $5-6.

Once I'm done with thus research then I'll research 2021 Rav4 Hybrid to the 2022 Rav4 Hybrid. I've definitely like, subscribed and saved your channel. Keep your videos coming. O, I also changed my vehicle's oil changes in less # of miles like you do. Noone understands me about that and I'm totally okay with that. So glad to see I'm not alone.

They’ve got the 5 quart jugs now at O’Reilly‘s now They matched price from Walmart 26 bucks. Try to beat that! I am with you 5K is good advice. You’ll never hurt an engine with clean oil.

I purchased a 2024 Rav4 Hybrid. I am changing my oil every 5,000 miles. I know everyone has different driving habits but on average, would you say that the EV kicks in a MINIMUM of 20%? My point being is that IF SO, my 5,000 mile oil change targeting the ENGINE is more like 4,000 miles realistically speaking. Would anyone agree?

just wondered ..had you considered using the Toyota brand oil filter, as in my area its about $6...and suppose to be the best filter for a Toyota engine? Or perhaps you did not have a dealer nearby or some other reason? ( as other YTers say Fram filters are not good?).

Just liked n subscribed. Do you think a full synthetic 0W-20 would be fine instead of 0W-16? Asking because I have plenty of 0W-20 full synthetic oil and it is more available and cheaper. Does the owner's manual implicitly say that only 0W-16 is to be used on this vehicle or is there a mention that 0W-20 could be used as well?

Owners manual states 0w-20 may be used if 0w16 is not available but 0w16 must be used at next oil change. I have not had any issues finding 0w-16 and the extra expense is not that bad if you buy 5 qt. jugs.

Hi Antoua for all of my vehicles, I have always followed the manufacturers instructions for all of the service I perform myself. I don't mix and match oil weights and stuff. Doing this, I have kept vehicles from 0 miles all the way through 300K+ miles. Your decision to make but, I wouldn't recommend it.

@@TheComebackKid ill stray a bit but not on a new car first oil change a couple hundred thousand on my vehicle and changing oil I used one of my quarts was 5 30 instead of 5 20 its summer and my winter never even gets below 30 No one can convince me Im doing harm . Never heard of 0w 16 oil I cant imagine 0 20 going to hurt a thing , but wouldnt recomend not going by book. Im with you I ve always done my own work but took my wifes lexus in a few times to dealer while under warranty and payed a pretty fair price for oil change and check up. But generaly I want to get underneath and take real good look and trust myself better than dealer on most stuff plus its more convienient

It takes extra effort but it's doable with a spare tire and a jack. Replace one of the tires with the spare, then it's just matter of moving the four tires around. This way you are only jacking up one wheel at a time and you will end up swapping out the spare tire last with one of the four tires. If you want specific sequence, this is the sequence I would do for the RAV4 hybrid since it's AWD. 1. Start with removing Front Left tire and replace with spare tire 2. Move Front Left tire to Rear Right 3. Move Rear Right tire to Front Right 4. Move Front Right tire to Rear Left 5. Move Rear Left tire to Front Left replacing the spare tire

. ... I think you'd forget your RAV4 is a hybrid... so if your odometer registered 10000 miles driven... practically your engine ran 50 to 60k (depending upon your driving habits...) miles only... because it's only running part of car running time or mileage... not even idling... ‼️ please just rethinking your 5k oil change practice... ‼️ EUDS .
