tinyurl.com/mdwx6y6 Preparedmind101 gets asked all the time...Who makes the best kydex sheaths? Well, now I'm going to tell (and show) you. This is my go-to kydex guy. Look for a couple more coming soon.
I like the cutaway sheaths he did for the odd-shaped blades. I have a couple of barongs with crappy sheaths I'd like to have done. Thanks for the review!
I use the same belt. But I ride a bike everywhere I go. And I think this would be a great idea for open carry. As I live in Florida I can pretty much put katana on my back and it's legal just long as it's open carried.
just got my azwelke sheath for my condor warlock and attached it to the back of my tactical hunting vest. Got an OD green theme and the OD green sheath looks seriously professional. Love it, highly recommend. Be prepared to wait over a month. Just order, leave your specail notes and wait. You can also email him after the waiting period.
I like the feel and look of "scout carry" and even bought a set up that way, but I found that I couldn't wear it that way (comfortably) with a backpack and can't think of a time I would be carrying a large Bushcraft/survival knife without a pack, so it's either strapped to the pack, in the pack, or drop down on the belt for me, though I love the scout carry for my lil rat 3 for edc
Looking forward to other reviews on sheaths. I agree that the sheath matters a lot. I'm always changing my sheaths, of course I really like cordura with pockets and storage.
Would you do any for Gerber knives? I have a prodigy tanto and the sheath it comes with bugs the crap out of me because of its ridiculous digi camo and it is very blocky. I've looked all over and there's no sheaths made to fit the blade profile so I never gave them a try.
As the kydex wears over time and the knife starts to slip out to easy, you can add a tension bolt near the top of the sheath about a half inch from the blade. Use rubber bushings on the outside of the kydex
Jess the sheath maker makes awesome taco-style, kydex sheaths. I don't like scout carry for larger knives but he does those too. He's on ebay and his prices are good. Got a nice Danger for my BK7 with a ferro rod attachment which hods my fatass ferro rod. Gonna order more sheaths from him too. One for my RD-7 since they don't make em anymore, my BK9, my RTAKII, and maybe one for my Schrade SCHF37.
Nice.. just opened their website. I'll have to look into getting a few sheaths.. I've been holding off for so reason. I just need to get to it. Thanks for the video
Probably the best stock sheaths out there. Id still rather have custom kydex. Most makers worth their salt will make their pancake style sheaths ESEE accessory compatible. That makes for some NICE rigs!
Not familiar with him but I'll check him out. I try to stick with the guys I am very familiar with that I know lots of people swear by. Azwelke is top tier, IMO, as well as Godspeed Tactical (video will be coming). I'd like to do three, so I'll check him out. Someone mentioned Sharktac, but Dave C already promotes them, so they don't need little ol me. But more people should know AZ and GST. I know the end user will be happy.
I actually reached out to Godspeed, but he was really busy (good craftsmen always are). This is how I came across Jeff who did some custom-designed work for me. There are a lot of talented folks out there for sure. If you see his work, I'm sure you'll agree that his ingenuity sets him apart (I'm not saying he's better or worse than anyone else, just a true master with his skills with Kydex and his inventiveness). Anyway, on top of all that, he's a good guy. :)
out of the box Chris you should be telling the truth: the best person to make YOUR kydex sheath for YOUR knife is YOU. seriously, it isn't that difficult. ask me how i know..... oh, and i LOVE your four TOPS knives favorites... i purchased the TFK recently!
As you guide the knife into the sheath use a finger to guide it in back to the sheath. Samurai thought; know where your blade retractes; a single fingle to guide, just a thought.
Not sure if i would prefer the scout carry or any kind of carry along the spine. Sure it looks cool and all but sitting with that thing poking you in the back is a no go for me. Side carry is best, sling is OK but its too floppy for me. I like the side carry because you can tie it down your leg and have the sheet sit very snug. Guys that hike/carry stuff avoid having stuff against you spine if u fall you run a risk of a serious back injury. Also dont carry appendix same goes. Way to many exposed and potential issues with injury. Stay safe.
That's one of those things I hear parroted all the time that I don't get... as if there are people everywhere in wheelchairs from falling backwards on knives carried in scout position. Hundreds of people DIE in car accidents every day but does that stop us from driving? What if I'm carrying my knife normally on my side and fall in it? Is it a hip injury risk? Whenever I hear that stuff I just roll my eyes. I can't recall the last time I fell backwards.
PREPAREDMIND101 I wasn't trying to be condescending at all. I know they tell our officers not to carry handcuffs in that position due to the potential injury because of previous incidents. I've always liked the idea of a concealed pistol carry in that position my self.
cz75fanatic if you have ever worn cuffs in a pouch you will understand that and what they warn against is putting them right on your spine that can be a problem but a knife worn where his is wont really hurt you btw I worked armed security for ten years and wore a full duty belt for years so that's where my handcuff info comes from
I've noticed a pattern here. You don't carry a gun. If you can't own a gun,I suggest hedge hog knife sheaths. Well that and never use a knife for personal defense. A knife in hand means a bullet in chest. Because criminals have no regard for the law. Be safe knife dude.
