Edit: reel seat may not be real Rosewood but it is really nice and it is wood.
Killer little rod for tight spots , banging around , kids , first timer ..dont let the price fool you...this thing is SWEET !
Best for trout small bass and other panfish. For people that normally prefer spinning rods or a bait casting rig , but wish they could throw a fly once in a while , this rod can give you that option for not a lot of money !
Its moderate action really adds to the fun when you tie into a nice fish!

I've had an 8' 6" one of those for several years now. It's a hoot for laid-back bluegill fishing.

While not what a guide may recomend as a first quality fly rod , this little rod is fun and very affordable and has its place in many anglers quiver !

I was a guide in California for 12 years. I'm a guide now. Like many who have these Eagle Claw "Featherlight" fly rods, I have some "first quality" rods that cost FORTY times what my 8 -foot version of the "Featherlight" cost, but I'm not ashamed to say that my Eagle Claw "Featherlight" has become a personal favorite in short order. The casting performance leaves nothing to complain about. Frankly, I was shocked and amazed at what a competent casting tool the thing is. It is also a very versatile one. It does well with the DT-5 and WF-6 lines it is rated for, but it also does well with 7=weight lines and ridiculously heavy integrated shooting heads. I don't have any problem with a DT-4F on mine, either. The little green sunfish that live in the East Fork of the San Gabriel River would manage to feel sporty on this thing, yet I have no doubt that if I hooked a "keeper size" halibut at Doheny Beach, I'd get it landed. If I still lived in Southern California, this one rod would cover pretty much all of the fly fishing I did there. I could fish Mission Bay for spotted sand bass and yellowfin croaker with it one weekend, have a ball fishing for trout at Lake Cuyamaca or Big Bear Lake the next, and use this same thing with complete satisfaction at Deep Creek, Piru Creek, or the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. As it happens, realistically, it's pretty much all of the fly rod I need for my local "foothills of the Ozarks" fly fishing opportunities. Trout, white bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass....... Bluegill.... Crappie.... Carp...... This thing SHOULDN'T cast as well as it does; yet it does. It'll generate enough line speed to make the line sing in the air, assuming the application of solid double-haul technique. But it's easy to throttle back, make a very delicate short-line presentation, in true old-school fiberglass fashion. You get some spiffy details, too, like a decent uplocking reel seat with a cherry wood insert spacer, a cork handle that punches well beyond price point, a winding check, a hook keeper, and even an 18 inch ruler imprinted on the blank. It has that iconic Eagle Claw look, too. If this thing could be made to cast like it does and play fish like it does, but was four-piece "tip over butt" instead of two-piece "tip in butt," it WOULD be my favorite fly rod to fish with. These Eagle Claw Featherlight fly rods are, I think, one of the best "bang for your buck" deals in fly fishing today. They aren't just "nice rods for twenty-five bucks and change." They're just nice rods that do what fly rods are supposed to do while capturing the iconic Eagle Claw look. Ain't a darn thing in the world wrong with that.

@@jerroldshelton9367 Thanks for the in depth report , I am in love with it . It is one of my favorite fly rods for it capabilities and something special about it , reminds me of the days when I was a kid with an eagle claw rod , camping with my dad , our German shorthair always near bye , the smell of a campfire coming across the lake..i never dream there would be so much to love about this rod. I think you should write eagle claw and tell them about your thoughts on the rod and a multi piece rod with tip over butt. I would be the first in line for several lengths and weights. Will -

they are up to 77$ for us canadians now on prime..i wonder if everyone would still say the same about this rod at that price. i still took the leap and picked this up just now for brooks and rivers, their still doesnt seem to be anything comparable even after almost tripling its price

Nice vid!! Will definitely take your advice. Since I would save some money on the rod I could go for a mid range reel, unless you know of a great budget reel. Which reel would you recommend?

I purchased the Eagle Claw Feather lite 6'6" rod the year they introduced them to market. Gosh, I fish tight streams and I have caught Bluegill, Bass, Crappie and it will toss a 5 WF line easily. I purchased a 2nd one just in case anything happened to it. I thought Eagle Claw would drop it from the market. I see the cork handle is better than the one I have. MADE IN CHINA is the new Corporate logo = Not Made in America
