Yes this drink will sneak up on you. Long story short I went out one night years ago before I knew what a long island ice tea was. I left the bar early after slugging down 5 or 6 of these things. The mile walk back to my buddies house(two blocks from my own) wasn't that bad. When I sat on his sofa they all hit me at once, weird delay reaction. I got up quick to walk the last two blocks home and I could swear my legs were walking out in front of me by the way I felt. I made it home just in time.
I drank this once, and I never finished the drink, actually I took like 3 good sips and I got drunk, IM not lying either, my head was spinning and I could feel it. Its super powerful, and my weapon of choice when im out trying to get drunk.
Hmmm I'm a poor college student looking to make this drink...will it matter if i don't use top shelf idems and any ideas and what specific brands to use?
lol the amf is great also very close though no different aside for many people do not use tequila i do though.. and as for mixers sweet and sour and the blue curaco instead of the coke on top...awesome drink and it will do the damage you cannot make that drink weak by no means
isnt a 4 count a half Oz?? anyways nice upload what school do you go to? I attend Dayton bartending school and im doin my speedround today. If i pass i graduate!!! wish me luck!!
If I remember and growing up on Long Island in the 70s some sugar was added too! Back then 2 Mugs Full for $10 and you were gone bye bye for the night!! But then who really remembers the 70s lol!!
When I make my Long Islands' I mix them well before I add the coke... you gotta shake it very well... also sour mix should be a lil bit more than he put in
Cointreau is actually the standard Triple Sec used in most bars of a certain standart so to answer your question -> Cointreau will do the job perfectly =)
@MegaDeathwarrant A long Island shouldn't be shaken in this case becouse he doesn't use any Juice in it. If he would have used a limejuice instead of the mixer he could have shaken it. When you shake a drink you make it more cloudy (and also it will be colder), therefore you often only shake a drink with Juice, since juice is cloudy anyway. If no juice is applied, and the drink is not shaken = the drink will not be cloudy, which tends to be a better looking way.
Great lessons, shame I'm In Australia or i might pay the company to send me! However not so sure about people using this "sweet and sour" stuff, shouldn't it be lemon juice? Keep up the good work!
@Boxerfanjoe Most people don' understand that the individuals characteristics of liquors are muted when mixed with different flavors. The stronger flavors over power the lesser ones.
@lazlon1 Hell yes! That's what I was saying. I thought maybe the first one was an accident but he continued to do it for all of them. I thought it was funny, his comment at 2:50, "real powerful.... don't drink and drive after this one." I was like, "especially that one!" This guy showed the prime example of how not to measure the alcohol. He would have been better off free-pouring it. Most bars will fire you for pouring like he did.
given these statistics, i've a pretty high alcohol tolerance. most i've ever had (without throwing up) was 1 fifth of tattoo, 6 jagerbombs, 4 cups of soco n cranberry juice, and a half of fifth of jack daniels. i know..this isn't to healthy, but i'm trying to make a point. just because i can drink more doesn't mean i have thicker blood. thicker blood actually means you may have Thrombocytosis...which is an increase in platelets. there are many causes of blood thickening. not alcohol tolerance
Now that's my idea of a Long Island Iced Tea. I just watched some other videos using 1/4 oz each liquor and I swear to God it looked like this guy poured in an entire can of Pepsi?! The drink was almost black.
2:52 "really powerful, so don't drink and drive after this one..." but, it's ok to drink and drive after a 12-pack. just don't drink and drive after a long island ice tea.
alcohol tolerance has nothing to do with the thickness of blood. it has to do with weight, gender, how much you drink when you do so, how often you drink, and for how long you've been drinking so regularly. take me for example. i'm a 235 lb male. when i drink, i drink as much as i can...most of the time almost puking. (i know...not healthy..i'm slowing it down). i drink every thursday, friday, and saturday nights (i'm a college student). and i've been doing this for about 6 months.
na, zombie is weak compared to this. but apparently i found out that the long island is only the third drink powerful in th world. the most powerful drink is the aunt roberta. has anyone heard about it? if there is a vid please tell.
@alliancewithdeath It's not 30 mls, that's one ounce. A half ounce is 15 mls. If you have 30 mls of each liquour in a Long Island you'll be plastered in no time. This guy always uses a lot of ice in his drinks. I personally use a lot more cola in my Long Island Ice Teas that I make at work.
4 long islands, 1 vegas bomb, 4 coronas and 1 shot of patron... the result... no driver front wheel on my car...yes this happened last friday :( so when he means. "Don't drink and drive after this one." He is right....
however the real Long Island Ice Tea is with vodka...not tequilla...it's even a rule of IBA that says clearly that whiskey/whisky,gin and tequilla can't stay together!!!
