I am addicted to Woodpeckers Tool.

Like your videos...kinda tickels me , " This is probably my most used one, I probably use this one the most..." several of them got that comment. Like I say, kinda funny, I know what you mean though. You use about 4-5 of them all the time, because all the time your doing high quality marking, scribing, cutting you name it!

Nice overview! You likely know this already, but for anyone watching - the Paolini ruler is designed in such a way that, when using the vertical scale (for router/table saw blade height, etc), when you take off the sliding stop, instead of setting it aside, you can place it in the slot in the middle of the back of the ruler so that the ruler stands up vertically on your table (and thereby making it hands-free). Pretty handy. Woodpeckers tools are pricey, but truly excellent.

Great Video. I'm in the same boat tried some off brands by have just about what you have now. Woodpecker are the finest made and love that there made in good old USA. Just wish they where about 20% lower in price. $380 is a lot for a 26" Square. But she is sweet to use and look at. Its addiction like Festool

While woodpeckers make great instruments of very respectable precision and quality, there are companies that surpass them in quality (I'm only considering comparables, obviously these have different types of product offerings), for example Mitutoyo or Starrett. Anecdotally, two different woodpeckers tools I bought had cosmetic blemishes and manufacturing defects.

Thanks for the video, Brian. I never payed much attention to Woodpecker's tools beyond the 1281 square. Learning a lot from watching your Woodpecker's videos - I wasn't aware the saddle square even existed. Definintely ordering one of those.

Hello Brian, I'm currently building my collection and something I'd like to add is the feel of the tools. I have had a Starrett 12" combo square for my go-to shop standard for some time and have always been able to rely on its accuracy. But after I bought my first Woodpeckers 1281 aluminum square, I have been enthralled with feel of it. It's not just the weight of it, which is substantial with a solid balanced feel to it, but it's also the feedback you get when it is set into or onto a corner. It has a snap or click when the corner is spot on square. You can get a similar feel from a Starrett, but it isn't as sharp, at least not for me, I think it might be the added width of the aluminum blade makes it feel sharper. I also like their stainless-steel squares which are great for marking.

I know the video has been posted for a little while, but could you share some thoughts on the combination/double square? How does it compare against Starrett? Is it as accurate? Does the aluminum head significantly reduce the weight? Does it accept Starrett blades? Thanks

this was a very nice video showcasing all the tools i will never let myself buy as a professional woodworker since i need my tools to be cheaper then the bill i send to my costumers :) (jokes aside i do own a couple nice expansive tools but not the whole collection)

Brian, at 15:33 when you take the sliding stop off and lay it down, you should have put it in the cut slot in the rule. It holds the rule vertical to make measuring with the depth gauge easier. Thanks for the review.

The 6” Paolini rule, in stainless, is an incredible tool. I’m eyeing the stainless Delve square next. It’s and addiction!

Just bought my first Woodpecker tool which was the TS-12 as if I don’t already have a tool addiction I’m sure after using this I’ll have an even more expensive tool addiction. I’m stoked to finally get it though

Why go with stainless over aluminum? Is it a precision thing?

The Paolini rule is pronounced "Pow-leeny". I have a few Woodpeckers tools myself, but only purchased what I needed (nothing repetitive) and I use all of them on a regular basis. Purchasing Woodpeckers tools at some point becomes a waste of money because most of their squares and rules perform in the same way. I find that many "woodworkers" on RU-vid seem to purchase Woodpeckers mostly to put them front and center for the videos, I never see them use 1/4 of what they have displayed on their wall lol.

on the little pollinni rule (yea, I have no idea how toxspell or pronounce it either) the part with the knurled nuts fits in the slot on the rule to help stabilize the rule on its edge to make measuring the height of router bits or saw blades.

Brian- Very much agreed - Woodpeckers and Festool are my go-to shop standards. Precise, well-made, not much else comes close. I was deeply vested into Milwaukee tools and still like the Packout system, but have relegated the M-batt-tools to field use, and use the Festool gear in the shop and for all cabinets and fine woodwork and the custom metal work i do. It’s simply superior in every way, as all the Woodpecker measuring and squaring pieces - many of which are the same as yours… I am currently bankrupting my children with the new W/P fences and tables for my drill press, miter saw, table saw, and entire new router system table. As you state here, the precision is as precise as it gets, and it’s all built like a brick shit-house, and sexy design. Soooo well thought thru to the finest detail and durability. All I’d add is the English tool-maker Axminster/UJC centered around the Parf and dog systems for the Festool MFT system and guide system designed by Peter Parfett. Their stuff is also as precise and well-integrated into this type of top-shelf shop setup. It’s expensive and sometimes hard to to get - esp now.. Festool is more than a bit snotty, but well worth the German quality, much like i use in other parts of my professional life where things need to be as perfect as possible, and when it’s not, its always my own errors… as the saying goes, “…good enough is NOT enough..”

That 6” pinni ruler slide Peace that comes off goes in that square hole so that the ruler stands on edge when you measuring the height of your router bit I can’t believe you didn’t know that about that that’s one of the greatest things about that too it stands up on edge by itself when you put that square slide in peace into that square hole on the ruler

I am a Woodpeckers fanboy and have had to pull in the reins on purchasing these tools. Hell I have most of the tools only to realize that I don't even use 1/2 of them.

There's a good bit on that table I want to add to my arsenal lol Definitely the 1281, 641 and mini squares; the paolini rule in stainless, probably the 12" and 24" t squares, etc. The 641 and paolini stainless will be my first real woodpecker tools. I do have some of their multi knobs, and they're amazing too. Yes, pricey, but you're buying these tools for life. It's not like they're use a few times then they're no good. That can be applied to a lot of things in woodworking, like clamps. Keep it up! It was awesome to see your collection. :-) What's your impressions on the corner clamps you have hanging up?

I also have saddle t is your saddle slightly different color from other wood pecker tools to?

With your T-square, you scribed a line 8" from the edge of the board. Which side of that pencil line is 8"? Do you cut all the pencil line away and that leave 8"? I've always wondered this about my own measurement tools. I've got a Incra 6" precision T-rule that has holes for a mechanical pencil like your t-square and ask myself this question every time I use it.

some great tools here. I tried to find Woodpeckers tools here in UK but theres only one retailer and it's all so expensive. It costs £400 ($540) for their 66cm square 😢

Problem is, woodworking does not demand the level of resolution required by the aeronautical industry. As such, it’s wasted money unless one has a fixation on tool collection than practical woodworking.

I noticed on the 12" Square if you set it on the edge of your board, it doesn't measure out to 12" but they call it a 12" Square??

Red doesn't help accuracy, the price is much too high when there are tools of equal precision available.

Hey, great video...but you should get you some front “fill” light to get rid of the shadow on your face from your cap. I wear backs too, so I feel your pain. Fill light will fix it up for you. I use Woodpeckers tools too. I use them for woodwork and I want the best precision I can get. I know other woodworkers don’t care about that, but I do...coming from an engineering background.

Much easier and faster with a Trammel of Archimedes (ellipsograph). A small router can be mounted on the end of the arm to cut a smooth ellipse.

Precise.. yes. Nice looking... yes. Over priced... yes. I have some WP stuff and yes I do like them but since alot of the products are made of aluminum they do tend to be a bit delicate in my opinion. Not job site worthy but certainly shop worthy with a small number of people or a one person shop. My other beef with WP is that they have extraordinarily high shipping costs. Now we are not comparing to Amazon who owns their own planes and pays people nothing etc .. I am talking in comparison to similar e-commerce sites without a retail footprint. In fact there are examples of shipping from stores in Europe... Thomann music for example... where the massive distance would lead you to believe big bucks for shipping but in fact the fees are quite reasonable. You can pay as little as $100 for delivery from Europe. You end up actually paying more than that from WP if you pick USPS. In my case I am in Canada and I am comparing apples to apples. For a company that only does e-commerce you'd think they'd have "international" shipping rates down to a science. We're just talking shipping rates for fairly lightweight items since most are aluminum... certainly the measuring items. Thomann are shipping guitars which are bulky and much heavier than a set of T squares. Products seem very precise and well designed but unfortunately they are out of reach for most people outside of the USA unless you bite the bullet and pay the shipping rates ascribed by WP. I ordered only once and would not do so again till they figure out their shipping rates to be more appropriate and in line with other US e commerce companies like say Sweetwater whose rates and service are impeccable.

WOODPECKER TOOLS ALL HAVE A LOT OF FUNCTIONAL OVERLAP - MORE THAN ONE TOOL DOES THE SAME THING. ONE CAN EASILY OVERSPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON SEVERAL TOOLS THAT ALL DO THE SAME THING. NO ONE NEEDS ENDLESS DUPLICATION AT WOODPECKER'S PRICES.

Woodworking does NOT require the same kinds of tolerances as aerospace industry requires.

Good video, work on your lighting especially if you wear a hat.

Take your hat off or get lighting that shows up into your face.

You just love to overspend money on expensive tools.
